Watch it

29th January 2012

Tick Tock its time to Shop!
This post was inspired by a request from one of my favorite people: the always fabulous Katrina (co author of one of my favorite blogs Hey Little Birdie)
Although watches make a perfect purposeful accessory that all women love, I have yet to feature them on Color Me Courtney. So I am beyond thrilled that Katrina suggested such a useful and popular topic. Consider this post as your person shopping guide to fabulous fashion watches, all the featured watches will be under $500.

The Go to Watch:
In the past few years, Michael Kors watches have become the classic fashion watch. They are cute, simple and chic, but at this point you will find it on the wrist of all your friends as well. In order to stand out, I suggest upgrading to a unique style as featured below.
(Starting on the far left and scaling down)
Switch It, Change It:
One way to break out of the Michael Kors brand funk is to switch to an equally fabulous but refreshingly different look with a Marc Jacobs watch.
Switch To Square:
If you really want your wrist glitz to stand out from the rest, switch to a sassy square shape. This shape is a little more sophisticated and while still remaining fashionable.
Charmed, I’m Sure:
For an unconventional watch look that still does the time-telling job, try a charm bracelet! This option is one of my favorites because I find charm bracelets to be classic, chic and something every woman should own.
Bow Baby:
By now, you all know that I have a slight obsession with bows, so of course I had to explore the option of a bow watch! I was pleasantly surprised with what I found: elegant options with a flirty flair that add a girly touch to a somewhat masculine accessory.

Look for less:
Although a watch is a worth while investment, you might want a affordable option in addition to or instead of a high quality option. These watch steals will allow you to try out a trend (like colored bands) for cheap!
Asos $28, Style&Co $30, Asos $45, Target $20, DebenHams $25, Bakers $35, Asos $44, Bakers $48, Forever 21 $25, Asos $32.
Tick Tock, Its Time to Choose:
Take a peak at my favorite watch options, perhaps looking at my favorites will help you select yours!

Betsey Johnson Mesh Bow $83, Piaget Altiplano, Moschino Cheap&Chic $170, Bestey Johnson, Macy’s $95, BCBG Pilsse Bow $160, Betsey Johnson, Macy’s $125.

shiny and bright

23rd January 2012

For our final Real Life Runway post, lets examine two wearable and affordable spring trends
Pretty In Pink
The Spring runway was covered in suits in all different sizes and pretty pink hues including hot pink shorts, light cropped blazers, tailored trousers and bright boyfriend blazers name a few.
Spring 2012
The inspiration?

Get this trend for cheap with amazingly affordable pink blazers!
Once you pick up a pink blazer, mix it up!
Pair your blazer with a colored pant for a fun yet sophisticated suit, try it with a pair of bright bermuda shorts (another hot item for spring) for a playfully unexpected look or go comfy chic by throwing on a striped maxi underneath!
Metallic Madness
Another spring trend brightening up the runway was metallic materials and shinny accessories!

Peplum Party

20th January 2012

For our 8th day of the 12 days of 2012, lets celebrate another new spring trend!
Peplum shirts, skirts and dresses were all over the spring runway.
Spring 2012: Jason Wu, Thakoon and Rodarte
Some of the prettiest spring peplums came from one of my designer favorites: Jason Wu
 Jason Wu Spring 2012
One of my absolutely favorite fashionistas Emma Watson was also seen walking the red carpet in a fabulous Jason Wu peplum look.

My Personal Peplum Party:
Dress: Forever 21. Tights: Target. Shoes: Gross Grain Glitter Heel Karolina, Kate Spade. Earrings: Kate Spade. Ring: DIY Domino. Belt: Gathered Bow, Kate Spade.
DIY Peplum:
Even before peplums were in style they were a silhouette I tried to wear often because they can be very flattering while looking high fashion. But back then they were so hard to find I often created my own and you can too!
Dare: try playing with pattern when creating your own peplum!
Dress: Forever 21. Skirt: H&M. Belt: Anne Klien. Shoes: Charlottes Russe. Bracelet: New York Charm, French Market. Ring: Forever 21 and Kate Spade. Earrings: Coach.

Play with Pastels

19th January 2012

One of the spring trends for this year, that bloomed all over the runway was a color pallet: pastels

Louis Vutton Spring 2012
Ralph Lauren Spring 2012
Get inspired by these pretty pallets!
Pastel pieces are starting to pop up in some of your favorite stores (Kate Spade fans check back in march) But I was able to put together a look with a few solid pieces I already possessed.

Sweater: J.Crew. Skirt: Vintage. Belt: J.Crew. Shoes: Oxford Booties, Vince Camuto. Bangle: Henri Bendel. Purse: La Vida Small Carryon Suitcase. Earrings&Ring: Kate Spade.

2012, the Year of Pattern

18th January 2012

2012 is the year of pattern in more ways then one!
As 2011 was the year of color at Kate Spade, now 2012 is the year of pattern, starting with january as a month filled with stripes.
Other patterns such as polkadots and fun florals will be featured throughout the year.

2012 is also the year of pattern because of two hot spring trends: Bird Prints and Abstract Art inspired patterns.
What fun patterns will you be testing out this year?

fashion recap: golden globes

16th January 2012

Stars always shine their brightest on a red carpet, lets take a look at some of the amazing and outrageous outfits from the 2012 Golden Globe Awards.
Ladies In Yellow
I’m obsessed with Paula Patton in Monique Lhuillier, one of the best dressed of the night!
I’m also loving Extra Host Maria Menounos in a sequin yellow stunner (unknown).
Colored Couture
Like Patton, Sarah Michelle Gellar was show stoppingly different in a unique Monique Lhuillier gown with Jimmy Choo heels and Bulgari Jewelry. I’m also crazy about her new CW show, Ringer.
Viola Davis, star of The Help looks classically beautiful in a wine colored dress, Jimmy Choo heels and Fred Leighton jewelry.
A Night of Neutrals
The Help’s Jenny Chastin looked amazing in her pearl-embesllished Givenchy ensemble.
Kind of obsessed with Julie Bowen in her flowy Reem Acra dress, It’s nice to see a different side of her.
Descendants star Shailene Woodely looked dazzling in this nearly nude Marchesa sparkling number and  Tabitha Simmons shoes.
Almost There…
These Ladies looked fabulous but I wish they added a little something more
Mila Kunis in Christian Dior would have looked even more amazing with a bright colored cocktail ring, maybe red orange!
I’m almost as crazy about this Zac Posen dress as I am about Reese Witherspoon but I just wish she did a turquoise bangle or chunky necklace, I think it would have set her apart and kept her young and fresh.
Uh Oh….
I hate to do this to the best actress on earth and two of the characters from one of my favorite television shows, but I have to nominate these fabulous ladies for worst dressed.
Lea Michele was just a miss in Marchesa and Jimmy Choo shoes, I loved this dress on the runway but think it does nothing for Lea’s awesome bod.
The Amazing Meryl Streep was a big miss tonight in this cowboy inspired gown, she is so talented and usually looks glamourous on the red carpet, I was a bit disappointed.
Worst of the Night
The Gorgeous Dianna Agron also slipped up tonight when she over did it in a too complex Giles dress that did nothing for her.
Best of the Best
Picking the best dressed is easy when girls look this good, but once again I was torn between two!
Kate Beckinsale looks flawless in her sparkling nude allusion Roberto Cavalli gown. Not only is it impeccably made but it fits her like a glove and shines so bright on the red carpet.

One of my favorite young starlets Sarah Hyland looks beyond gorgeous in her vintage Dolce and Gabbana. It’s lacy, elegant, young, flirty, fun, interesting, current, classic and just perfect. I’m obsessed!

Who were your best dressed? worst dressed? Tell me everything!

New Year, New Wardrobe

14th January 2012

A new year is a new reason to go shopping! But before you hit the stores, take a glance at your guide to a fashionable 2012.
After re-reviewing some of the top designer’s spring collections and reading up on the new year necessities as recommended by different fashion gurus, websites and brands I composited my favorites into list of 12 necessities for 2012.

“Glitter, shine, neon and brights are the key elements to a women’s must-have fashion essentials in 2012”
–Bloomingdale’s Fashion Accessories Director Brook Jaffe

“Also we love ringing in the new year with neon and bright colors! It’s the season to be noticed, and bold colors are one of the hottest trends of Spring 2012. Make a statement in everything from your tech accessories, to your wardrobe, with just the right pop of color!”
— Bloomingdae’s Fashion Accessories Director Brook Jaffe

now get to shopping!

12 days of 2012

13th January 2012

A 12 part segment dedicated to bringing you the top trends for spring 2012!
Here’s something small to start your year off right…
The “This is the year to…” Gold bangle from Kate Spade is the perfect way get inspired for 2012. I love wearing mine everyday with my other colorful bangles, looking down at it or hearing it clang against the others is a daily reminder to stick to my resolutions.

fashion recap: PCA2012

12th January 2012

Lets discuss the best and the worst from this weeks people choice awards (2012)

Best Dressed
14-year-old break out star, Chloe Moretz looked sophisticated yet age appropriate in Proenza Schouler!

Zachary Levi was the best dressed Man of the night in a Vivienne Westwood plaid suit.

I’m obsessed with Lucy Hale even on a normal day but she looked glamorously goth in this sexy Cengiz Abazoglu gown (Spring 2012 Couture)

Although I’m not a V.Hudge Fan she always looks fashionable and fabulous, and she didn’t disappoint in a black Jenny Peckham gown (Fall 2011).

Although its really hard to look bad in the always fabulous Valentino, Kristin Bell looked edgy but still girlie in the leather dress and her gold toe Christian Louboutins.

Almost There…

The “Once Upon A Time” gals almost got it right. I’m loving Ginnifer Goodwin in this bold and bright Roksanda Ilincic dress but I would have rather seen her in a black patent platform pump instead of these Jimmu Choo booties that chop her up. I actually really love everything about Jennifer Morrison’s Oscar de le Renta look (she was ridiculed for doing “too much”) I just wish I could d a quick snip to all those tassles to create a mini dress. I would have also liked to see her in nude patent closed toe pumps.

For me, Hunger Games Star Jennifer Lawrence in a Victor & Rolf fishnet dress and Nina Dobrev in Elie Saab were the worst of the night.

Fixing the Fashionistas
Jennifer usually stuns on the red carpet and Nina almost always gets it a right, so I’m giving these stylish stars a second chance by redressing them in what I would have liked to see.
what she should have worn: jennifer lawrence
Jennifer Lawrence usually goes for a sexy-girlie va va voom look that makes her incredibly alluring and strangely relatable. I understand that she was going for something different, and more edgy this time, but I would have liked to see her in a leather Alexander McQueen mini dress instead. She also should have pulled her hair down and added a pop of color with YSL pumps to keep her young and fun.
what she should have worn: nina dobrev
I love this color, but the lace sleeves look way too old and some-what costumesque for Nina, and not in a good way. Since some of my favorite Nina moments are when she does corseted mini dresses that keep her sexy and young while making her legs go on for days, I put her in this green Savanna dress that I’m obsessed with! I also wanted to give her a little edge so I added a Serpent ring and added some sparkle with glitter Jimmy Choo strappy sandals.
Best of the Best: Its a Tie!
I’m torn between Kaley Cuoco’s figure flattering Badgley Mischka gown (Spring 2012) and Emma Stone’s perfectly tailored Gucci blazer and ciggy pants. Kaley looks like a goddess and Emma is so striking in green, I also love that she did something different!
What do you think? Do you agree? Disagree? and who was your best dressed of the night!

Every college gal needs something sparkly to layer with for a night out and a body con mini skirt is a frugal and fabulous basic that you can get a lot of use out couture 2

Pair a colorful blazer with a solid pencil skirt now for interviews, and post grad for the office! You can also mix and match these pieces for more casual looks such as a blazer with jeans or a pencil skirt under a cropped sweater.

Slouchy sweaters and patterned cardigans can greatly enhance a student wardrobe. They are easy to throw on for a quick casual yet chic look.

A body con dress is another necessary basic that can easily transfer from day to night. What I call a “pull on dress” is also great for college student style, it can easily be dressed up or dressed down and serves as an easy all in one outfit to “pull on” at a moments notice.
