Today’s look is all about pairing crazy amounts of color with plenty of pattern!
Using these citrus-y hues, I was able to create a summery striped outfit that makes a bright yet unexpected statement look!
It seems I’ve come down with another case of the stripes! Hence the stripe on stripe pairing in this look! I am definitely not afraid to mix patterns, and really no one should be!
Does this skirt look familiar? It’s the katie skirt, From Sandee Royalty… in green! As featured in the Work It the Katie Skirt post (red) and in the Walking on Sunshine post (yellow)
Shirt: Old Navy Striped Top (old-ish). Skirt: Sandee Royalty Katie Skirt in Green. Shoes: John Fluevog pumps. Pearl Statement Necklace. Bag: kate spade gold scout. Vintage Kenneth jay Lane Statement Necklace and Earring set. Arm party: J.crew Pave Link bracelet, Kate Spade Idiom Bangles, Juicy Couture Buckle bangle, Kate Spade lady Marmalade bracelet, kate spade all wrapped up bow ring.
Let’s catch up! Today, I wanted to take some time to update you on what has been happening in courtney land over the past few weeks!
green skirts, pink flats, painted ladies and arm candy! I traveled to az and back again, where I had bought a blue beret cap, a Valentino dress for $50 and had a puppy play date with the most adorable frenchie, lilly!
Pajamas&pearls, streets of sf and smile. My SF bestie miss emily turned 22 (woo!) and we celebrated in style! Oh, and some big things happened on twitter, making me one happy blogger!
Shopping, shopping and churros? I did a lot of shopping, including makeup A la Nars! I decided I’m making the big move to NYC in January and oh yeah I graduated! But the most important part of the past few weeks, well besides eating a churro, was finding out that my good friend francis is the proud owner of a 24 foot scarf!!! When I inquired as to why? he informed me… “It’s longer than princess Diana’s train!” … Oh Francis !!!
Can’t get enough?!
I often post outfit pics and other interesting images to instragram (courtney_fowler) so make sure you are following! I’ll also tweet style tips and tricks, so follow via twitter to stay fashionably connected, yay!
Until next time, stay fabulous!
Surprise, surprise… another sparkly outfit! But this one has a twist… I’m strutting through union square wearing (drum roll please) … pants! It’s a rare sight to see so take a peak!
To make this layering look work, I used a necklace as an illusion! This sparkly shirt is my favorite layering piece (hence why I am always wearing it) but it has a boat neck (boo), making it difficult to layer under! So I just pile on the necklaces to cover the gap between the boat neck and the button up!
Top: Foxcroft turquoise button up. Shirt: J.crew sparkle top. Thrifted white belt. Jewels: Statement Pearls, J.crew Pave Link bracelet, Kate Spade Idiom bangles, Kate Spade lady marmalade bracelet, Kate spade all wrapped up bow ring, Kate Spade gum drop studs. Glasses: Tom Ford. Color Me Crafty…
Since I am the self proclaimed queen of crafting (let’s be honest, I am just too cheap so I end up doing things myself instead of buying them) I claim this friday and every friday from now on, diy day!
The first DIY project, we are giving this tired old clutch a make over!
What you will need:
Start off by finding an old white clutch either in your closet or at your nearest goodwill (mine was $3 at goodwill). Then you need two rulers (optional), painters tape and spray paint!
Tips and tricks:
Make sure to clean your clutch first, you don’t want any dirt to compromise your finished product! Do two or three coats of paint but make sure you let it dry in between! Also gently pull the painters tape off at an angle to prevent ruining your pattern and wa-la, the perfect chevron clutch… for less!
Today’s look has a few componets: it helps us dress down a dressy dress while combining a few current trends: tomato red, denim, pops of color and arm parties.
Recognize this dress? It’s the Kate Spade Jillian dress I wore for my MBA graduation, but today it’s getting a casual make over! Here’s how I took it from dress to day…
With the Jillian dress, a little bit of layering can go a long way! I paired a button up shirt under the dress to dress it down a bit!
Arm partys are all the rage right now! So as always I piled on the arm candy with lots of bracelets, bangles and bling!
A pop of color is always a great way to make a statement for spring! For this outfit I choose a turquoise necklace and turquoise gum drop studs for that perfect pop!
Denim is also really big right now from colored skinnies to chambray tops. For this look, layering a denim button up under the jillian helped dress it down!
Tomato red was all over the spring runway from prints and patterns to bold solids! It is a super easy trend to try, play it safe by pairing it navy, denim or brown, or be bold by pairing it with turquoise (like me) or even yellow!
I finished the look by neutralizing it with gold.
Shirt: Banana Republic Denim Button up. Dress: Kate Spade Jillian Dress (sale!). Necklace: Kenneth Jay Lane All Eyes On You Necklace. Necklace: Vintage Kenneth Jay Lane Sparkle Necklace. Earrings: Kate Spade Gum Drop Studs. Bag: Kate Spade Gold Scout. Shoes: Vince Camuto Oxford Booties. Ring: Kate Spade All Wrapped Up Bow Ring. Arm Party: Kate Spade Idiom Bangles, Juicy Couture Buckle Bangle, Kate Spade Lady Marmalade Bracelet, J.Crew Pave Link Bracelet.
As the seasons change so do the trends! But revamping your wardrobe four times a year can get a little pricey, so this post helps you do so on a budget!
So for this post, I’ll show you how to make twelve different trendy summer looks by investing only four wardrobe workhorse pieces:
Colored Denim is a big trend for spring and summer, that will carry over into fall! A bright yellow pair is perfect for those sunny days and works with a bunch of different hues!
You can easily pair colored denim with pieces already in your wardrobe like a statement b&w top, slouchy colored tank or a basic white button up.
Stripes and skater dresses always seam to always be on trend for spring, and this year its all about striped dressess with a nautical essence!
The striped dress pairs perfectly with a denim jacket or a white blazer! I also love to pull dresses over button up shirts for something unexpected! You could even wear it with a pop of color (try turquoise, navy or yellow) or dress it down with converse.
Shift dresses are season-less, even trendy lace ones! Wear them over a long sleeve shirt or sweater, with thick tights and knee high boots in the winter or with cute flats and sunnies in the summer!
Shift dresses are the perfect length for a transformative piece! They pair perfectly with cropped denim or jean shorts, look great over leggings and are long enough to wear bare with low heels or flats! Try belting your shift dress or layering it with a statement necklace or even a boyfriend cardigan! Invest in a shift dress you love and will wear all year long!
If you ask me, polka dots are always in style! But despite my obvious bias, these stylish spots were all over the spring runways for the past few years. Therefore, a flirty polka dot skirt can be a timeless addition to your wardrobe.
Printed skirts are so versatile! Making an outfit can be as simple as tucking in a colorful tee and adding a statement necklace! Or since everyone has a chambray shirt or a basic button up in the back of their closet, dust it off, belt it and tuck it in! If you are daring, try mixing patterns but keep it simple with complimentary colors (navy and red) and by utilizing neutrals!
It is no secret that I am obsessed with my new Kate Spade Celina Dress, so of course I had to feature it in yet another post, but this time I gave the dress an unexpect-red twist while lunching on maiden lane!
Last time you saw the striped Celina, I was channeling my inner Audrey Hepburn in audrey-esuqe.
But this time I wore my celina dress with an unexpect-red pop of color, with bright punches of red with the accessories and throughout the look!
Dress: Kate Spade Celina Dress. Red Petticoat. Belt: Kate Spade Gathered Bow Belt (fall 2011, similar styles). Necklace: Kenneth Jay Lane All Eyes on You Necklace. Glasses: Kate Spade Rebecca Readers. Shoes: Kate Spade Marie Pumps. Earrings: Kate Spade Gum Drop Studs. Arm Party: J.crew Pave Link Bracelet, Kate Spade Lady Marmalade Sparkle Bracelet, Kate Spade This is the Year to Bangle, Vintage Pearl Bracelet (similar), Juicy Couture Gold Buckle Bangle, Kate Spade All Wrapped Up Bow Ring, Forever 21 Heart Ring (similar), Vintage Gold Ring.
Everyone is familiar with the classic novel: the Great Gatsby, but the story is getting a sparkly new makeover when it hits the big screen this christmas!
The Gatsby trailer was released about a month ago and I have been obsessing over all things glittery, glamours and gatsby-esque ever since! Take a peak!
I think “sparkly” is the best way to describe this movie magic. So this marketing monday post, inspired by The Great Gatsby, is all about the roaring twenties featuring two looks filled with flapper flair. First up: fabulous fringe
Fringe dresses are a twenties inspired trend, but they can be updated for a more current look. Try pairing them with something unexpected like a leather jacket or a bold blazer. I payed homage to the classics by piling on the pearls and stepping into mary janes.
In honor of all the glitter and glitz displayed in the trailer, this next look is a more updated version of twenties style featuring lots of sparkle!
If you are going for a head to toe glittered look (shown) make sure to keep it monochromatic or stick with neutrals! Don’t be afraid to play with textures and proportions to keep it interesting, I paired a tiered skirt with nude fishnets!
Thinking of the movie makes me wish I was the lucky owner of the Great Gatsby book clutch from Kate Spade! I would love to wear it to the premiere… and every other day after that. The Gatsby Book Clutch is sadly sold out (but rumor has it, that it will be back in stock soon… yay) but you can still pick up any of these other styles and more in stores and online at kate spade.com
