mix && maxi

25th September 2012

i’ve got the blues …. && greens in today’s mix && maxi post, an outfit that I wore to the duce in downtown phx.

for a day full of vintage shopping that ended && the darling duce (a vintage boxing ring turned event spade && sandwich shop) I had to pull out a casual courtney look…

i wore a maxi dress, but with a twist. I knotted a basic t-shirt dress over the top of my liz claiborne chevron maxi dress, that’s older than I am!
dress 1 (worn over): forever 21 // dress 2 (under): vintage liz claiborne // necklace: j.crew // handbag: katespade // earrings: coach // arm party: kate spade// j.crew // sequin // kate spade bangle x3 // sequin // vintage // sequin

vanilla

24th September 2012

i’m craving something sweet…
&& today’s creamy-vanilla girly-glam look hits the spot.

champagne is one of those classy colors that every girl should covet. it can go casual or dressy && looks great with almost any other color. since shiny skirt speaks for itself, so i paired it with a simple white tee, before piling on the pearls for that extra wow factor. the gold accessories && pops of pavé give it that extra bit of bling!
please excuse my legs, the misquitos seem to really love me && have been using my legs as a buffet… awesome. for something unexpected, but still inline with the creamy color scheme, i finished the look with leopard heels. i thought they would add something unexpected, without going over the top.
skirt: h&m // white tee // shoes: kate spade (in stores now. the perfect pair of leopard heels) // handbag: kate spade // necklaces: diy (under) // francesca’s (over) // rings: forever 21 (old) // kate spade // arm party: kate spade // j.crew // sequin // kate spade  x3 //vintage // sequin // vintage. over // under

20th September 2012

layering (yes, i’m hyping layering again, don’t judge me) can help you transform a few pieces into very different outfits!
for today’s outfit I layered an orange and white shirt over one of my favorite courtney green (yes, courtney green, not kelly green, because no one named kelly loves this color as much as I do) dressess. oh & if that didn’t excite you, my pup waffles joined my for this post!

with the bright colors and simple patterns, this look is a little bit preppy! in fact, my looks seem to be getting preppier and preppier lately. i’m really not too surprised my style always switches up during the fall, believe it or not, a few seasons ago I went edgy (crazy, i know!)

layering a shirt over a dress is an easy way to switch up your look and make people look twice. something as simple as knotting your top at the waist will help cinch your center and define your waist. wearing a top over also allows your favorite dress to double as a sassy skirt!

top: h&m (spring) // dress: amanda uprichard (worn under) // shoes: john fluevog (on sale!!!! i’m so obsessed with mine, i’m about to buy a second pair! they are beyond adorable && so comfortable!) // handbag: diy (coming soon) // scarf: vintage // earrings: coach // necklace: j.crew // arm party: kate spade// j.crew // sequin // kate spade bangle x3 // sequin // vintage // sequin
before you go, i want your thoughts on this looks color combo? i rarely pair green && orange together for fear of looking like a carrot, but i think if you use the right shades && throw in some white, it works! do you agree? i even think it would make a really cute color combo for home decor! here’s what i was thinking…
as always, tell me what you’re thinking! until next time, stay fabulous.

video madness

14th September 2012

please excuse my lack of looks in today’s post, but I wanted to share some of my favorite ksny campaign videos! also I am hard at work for a big big big post coming your way next week with lots of outfits options! until then, check out this fantastic fall little number, here’s the latest… i love the dots! I actually have polka dot nails as we speak…

i also love this one from kate’s rocking spring collection… musical chairs: ready, go! since holiday season is right around the corner (believe it or not, it is!) let’s celebrate with this next video…give colorfully. have you noticed the red flowers i am always pinning on outfits, check out how others used these poppy poppies when ksny gave them out during their understated is overrated campaign last fall… this one’s an oldie but a goodie, give this one a whirl and finally, one of my favorite vintage-esque videos starring bryce dallas howard when she was the face of kate spade last year.
which one’s your favie? let me know! i will be back with a really big post next week… here’s a hint, think 100 outfits!

poppy

13th September 2012

today’s post is all about the power of pattern mixing && a pop of color!
for this look i’m using a pop of poppy paired with b&w patterns to make a statement.

if you are hesitant about mixing patterns, try pairing two black && white prints together! it won’t come off as shocking as other pattern pairs && is uses something you probably already have lying around in your closet! try pairing your polka dots with stripes or even houndstooth like i did today! also use a solid piece, like i did with my black skirt, to keep from going over board!
some disagree, but i think leopard as a natural! i put my leopard skinny belt to work once again && used it to bring an unexpected twist to the outfit. i finalized with another spot of polka dots south of my ankles && brought some color to the look by doubling up on my poppy pins!
one tip for layering is to “double layer” or layer on either side of a specific piece. in my case, i choose a solid black skirt as my center piece && layered my patterned polka dot skirt under it && my cardigan over it. if you choose to double layer (under && over) choose a layering center piece that is opposite of your other garnets. for example, go for a solid to pair with two patterned pieces (like me) or use a pattered center piece to pair with two solid ones for maximum contrast without overdoing it!
blouse: forever 21 (similar) // cardigan: target (similar) // skirt: modcloth // shoes: kate spade // red poppies x2 // bag: kate spade // belt: express (similar) // arm party: kate spade// j.crew // sequin // kate spade // sequin // earrings: kate spade

spring fever

12th September 2012

it’s that time of the year again: new york fashion week && all of the top designers are revealing thier spring 2013 collections! although, i didn’t make it to nyc this year (tear) i’ve been a busy bee && glued to my laptop, streaming fashion shows online && hunting for sneak peaks of spring collections. of course, i had to share my absolute favorite collection, drum roll please… kate spade! lets take a peak…

if you noticed a bit of a theme, good eye! its because this year (2013) is a year of celebration!
to ring in kate spade’s twentieth year, the brand is dedicating each month to a different “thing we love”. this collection starts by dedicating a month to a pop of color…
followed by bold blooms…
and then, my favorite, a well placed bow…
and finally picnic (i have been crushing on gingham since last spring so i am beyond excited for this one!)…
I can’t wait to celebrate kate’s 20th anniversary next year && am already obsessing over the spring collection! did any of the “things we love” catch your eye? if so what month are you looking forward to the most? && what products are you dying to have! my wish list includes the black && white gingham capris, tan bow coat, prada-esque bags && the amazing white dress with printed bows! incase you missed anything, here’s another look!

yee-haw.

10th September 2012

last week, I dined at rawhide… so of course I had to dress the part.
since a country outfit isn’t exactly my style, I was sure to bring out my inner cowgirl with a color me courtney twist…

when I heard rawhide, I immediately thought denim. But since I am swooning over the ever-trending spots (read all about it) I had to add a dash of dots to my denim look.

if this top looks familiar, it should! it was a diy friday post a few weeks back! i thought the spotted denim would be a perfect rodeo-esque look, with a touch of whimsy. in fact, this look is filled with diy projects! i finished the look && offset the country-ness with more pops of polka dots, the power of a red flower and glam accessories.
shirt: diy (learn how here) // skirt: h&m // red poppy // pumps: kate spade // statement pearls (try a diy – check out my tutorial here) // clutch: kate spade (learn to make you own statement clutch here) // domino ring // earrings: coach // arm party: kate spade // j.crew // kate spade // nordies // vintage pearls
