after rain comes a rainbow

30th January 2013

why should i wait for a rainbow,
when i can wear one when while it’s still pouring?

everyone should invest in one pair of color rain boots (they don’t have to be the expensive-esque hunter ones … mine were $25 rain boots). anyways, colored wellies will really brighten up your rainy day && add the perfect pop of color to our outfit!
a color pop doesn’t have to be a single thing. next time you see yourself drawn to your favorite lbd or a black&&white outfit], try to add not just one, but two (or more) pops of color to your look. it will add an unexpected brightness to your look.

happy birthday miss myles

30th January 2013

today is a special day!
i just wanted to do a quick post in
celebration of one of my dearest friends, miss mary myles.

mary is one of the sweetest people you will ever meet and continues to surprise me with the size of her heart. i’ve been lucky to call this doll one of my closest friends for about ten years now and am so blessed to have her. she is a shining star and has always been one of the biggest supporters of color me courtney. so i had to take this time to say happy birthday (in the biggest way i know how) to the fabulous miss mary myles.
she was also my first official styling project, when she dared to step in as my personal paper doll a few summers ago, take a peak.
once again, happiest of birthdays to you miss mary!
you really are one of a kind!

mad about monday

28th January 2013

today i’m introducing a new segment to brighten up your mondays:
where i discuss my current obsessions, it could be a product, designer, person or all of the above. ready? here we go…
so last night were the 2013 screen actors guild awards. while most were obsessing over the winners, i was mad about the fashion: specifically a newly married justin timberlake in tom ford…
&& the adorable kiernan shipka in oscar de la renta…
ellie kemper, who looked like a gorgeous sea goddess in reem acra
marion cotillard, in a dress i would die to wear (only maybe substitute the navy for red) in christian dior haute couture
&& lea michelle who played barbie in the always glamours valentino.

red rain

27th January 2013

i love a rainy day, but i like to do doom&&gloom the color me courtney way by brighten-up with a pop of color

i can’t tell you how excited i was this morning when i woke up to rain, i could only think one thing: polka dot rain boots… polka dot rain boots!!!!
i wanted my new umbrella, rain boots && bow belt to be the stars of this outfit, so i kept the look basic with black to draw attention to these other areas.
i’ve been wanting heeled rain boots for a while now (because what’s more glam then heeled rain boots?) and stumbled across these perfect, polka dot, kate spade ones (exclusive to saks) this fall. then i fell in love all over again when i opened them christmas morning && couldn’t wait to pair them with my new striped umbrella for a rainy day patterned party.

mod about you

21st January 2013

with valentines day just around the corner, some of my next few posts will be v-day worthy to help you get ideas for what to wear on the most romantic day of the year! first up, fall modly in love with hot pink!

i’m beyond obsessed with my new pink dress, it makes me feel so girlie & pretty but in a modern way! today i took it for a sixties spin with a think belt, chunky heels and big round glasses.
looking thin i s a cinch! the thicker the belt, the slimmer your waist looks! just make sure it either starts or ends at your smallest point and try to use a contrasting color (like a black belt against white) to really trim your waist.
i purposely paired my open toe heels with black tights to keep it mod. some think doing so is a no-no, but i think it adds to the theme, and don’t mind mixing open toes with tights when it clearly makes a statement !

twinning with taylor

18th January 2013

today i’m twinning with the lovely miss taylor swift as we both strut our stuff in not one, but two kate spade carolyn dresses!

. . .

first up, we step out in the black and white carolyn! it’s a classic with a twist!
// one // two //
so taylor kept her look classic and simple, while i piled on the pearls and made it very courtney! take another peek as we compare the two…
black and white is nice but color is better! so next up we shake up this classic shape by adding some color!

// taylor swift in kate spade //

for this look i was actually channeling zooey deschanel! see the full post here

ladies in red

14th January 2013

So like many of you, i spent last night watching the golden globes and found myself dazzled and inspired by all of the runners in red!

take a peak at some of my favorites…
so i was inspired to create red dress outfits for any occasion or style, here we go…inspired by zooey deschanel, this classic with a twist look is one of my favors! it’s perfect for a girlie girl on a day date or even meal with girlfriends, the pops of dusty blue keep it young and fresh while the pearls & pavé dress it up a bit!

the sophisticated lady is always tailored and sleek, but adds an element of edge with a bold bangle and striking clutch. with this look, she can add a blazer to take this look to the office or let down her hair for  happy hour!
this look is one of my favorites, the girlie girl with a flirtatious side keeps things fun & fabulous with a little lace, sparkle accessories and a fun clutch. i would wear this to a valentines soiree or even a girlie night out!

edgy ellegance isn’t quite my style, but i would love to dazzle in this dress for the day. the gold accessories, vintage inspired earrings and detailed skirt bring the drama and are sure to be a show stopper!

love love love this one! this minnie mouse inspired bright & bubbly look is perfect for a day of exploring, shopping or even a special birthday party!

edgy gals wear red too! just deep, dark, blood red paired with stand out studs and a bit of black!

girlie girs pair bows with gold but also may want to add a pop of color! with mint being the “it color” this year, she can stay on trend and true to herself in this girlie glam look!
stepping out to somewhere fabulous? well bring the drama by dripping in diamonds and a floor length gown! but keep them guessing with your sense whimsy by adding an unexpected book clutch, and you’ll be the bell of the ball!
i wanna know… which look are you coveting the most? tell me, tell me!
until next time…Photobucket

bon jour

13th January 2013

when spending a day vintage shopping with your french bulldog, there is no way to dress but in french theme while keeping it casual with a dash of whimsy.

if you have a cute novelty sweater or long sleeve shirt, this is a great way to add some pizzaz while keeping it casual! pair it with a contrasting color, do a bit of layering and add a pattern to end up with something creative && colorful
a straight up && down pencil skirt is not usually my favorite shape, so i drew the attention upward by layering a peter pan collared top with statement pearls, while sliming the legs with black tights && black boots!
sweater: khols (white, pink) // top: kate spade (try a collar necklace//necklace: diy pearls (tutroial) // skirt: forever 21 (fun red option) // boots: coach // sunnies: miu miu // bag: kate spade // rings: vintage // wire wrap // domino ring // kate spade // arm party: vintage // sequin // vintage // kate spade idioms // vintage // michael kors // vintage // forever 21

pink && teal

10th January 2013

today, let’s brighten up the usual b&&w outfit with a pop of color

i’m all about the pop of color, it is always so perfect && so on trend for spring! but i couldn’t resort to just one surprising hue, i had to double my color with a pop of teal && a pop of deep pink (both hot colors for spring).

most either opt for pattern mixing or utilizing a color pop! but this year, be bold && try both! oh && when you’re looking to pattern mix try two geometric patterns like stripes && dots, gingham && polka dots or stripes && houndstooth (like me!).
did you splurge on a holiday day dress to die for? if so, here’s a tip on remixing your favorite festive frock for the new year! layer a cute cardigan over the top && cinch it with a statement belt to define your waist while making your dress look completely different!

dress: kate spade // cardie: target (try these) // belt: vintage // necklaces: francescas && diy pearls (tutroial) // shoes: kate spade (look for less)// earrings: vintage (check these out) // sunnies: miu miu // bag: kate spade // rings: vintage // wire wrap // betsey johnson // kate spade // vintage // arm party: vintage // sequin // vintage // kate spade idioms // vintage // michael kors // vintage // jcrew // forever 21

spotted in spots

8th January 2013

spots on spots on spots: today i pair leopard print with my go to polka dot!

forget what they say, i believe leopard is a neutral so it must be true! don’t be afraid to mix it with unexpected colors && patterns, you’ll end up looking like the cats meow.
hold the phone! && check out my new (old) favorite earrings. i picked them out at the cutest hole in the wall vintage store, they belonged to a little lady based out of south carolina with a big personality and even bigger sense of style! she worked for a telephone company && i ended up picking up about half of her jewelry collection which included watermelon earrings && a giant giraffe brooch.
if you’re ever on the hunt for hidden treasures at a vintage store, ask about your purchases! they shop owners sometimes know tidbits about the previous owner && you’ll love them so much more
a little red can go a long way, but i decided to wear a lot of it to make a big statement. oh && don’t let a chill in the air discourage you from wearing your favorite peep toes, just pair them with a matching colored tight (black on black is your safest option) && make them work for winter!
dress: french connection // coat: asks (similar) // belt: kate spade (this year’s version) // necklace: kate spade // shoes: kate spade (similar) // sunnies: miu miu // bag: kate spade // rings: wire wrap // betsey johnson // kate spade // arm party: vintage bobbles // sequin // kate spade idioms // vintage // michael kors // vintage // jcrew
