Coral

29th July 2013

Summers in nyc are hot hot hot, and some mornings you just dread getting dressed… but there is one outfit solution: a cute romper!

I never really shop at forever 21 anymore, not because I don’t like it, but just because going in there gives me anxiety! However, I wanted a cheap romper to help me through the summer, and found one this one at XXI! I was pleasantly surprised with the quality and construction for the price I paid!

romper: forever 21 // shoes: // necklace: breckelles // belt: kate spade (on sale) // necklace: tomorrow’s unknown handbag: kate spade // sunglasses: karen walker
be sure to pop by tomorrows unknown for more amazingly affordable necklaces and other amazing accessories! it’s my new go-to shop!

Blast from Birthday Past

24th July 2013

Incase you haven’t noticed, it’s my birthday week so we’re celebrating all week long on the blog!

today we’re taking a look back at one of my favorite birthday celebrations of all time… my mad hatter tea party brought to you as part of my party planning segment: hopeless hostess!

we were in no short supply of sweet treats the party, i whipped up a pound (or pick one up from the store), frosted some cupcake (or substitute mini brownies) and surprised guests with mini fruit pizzas (Sugar cookies, frosting & fruit). Finger sandwiches are a tea party must! Try crustless cucumber & fancy cheese spread (or mix whipping creme with italian dressing), their fun & filling!
Sweeten the deal with candy that doubles as decor! Try dropping fresh fruit in the water for refreshing citrus drinks that tastes as good as it looks.
What’s a party without games? The hopeless hostess plays bingo with buttons, charades and the plate game for her most peculiar tea party.
My party was a blast, but the finishing touches were my fabulous & fashionable friends who always dress the party-part! They showed up in theme with character costumes or over-the-top, yet absolutely necessary, tea attire.
Oh, and since this was my 21st birthday, candles and cupcakes were a must! not just for the birthday girl and hostess herself, but also for all of the guest’s celebrating their un-birthdays. Make a wish…
I hope you enjoyed looking back at one of my favorite birthday celebrations!
Want to keep the party going? We’re celebrating all week long on CMC including a birthday earring giveaway! Enter here, and goodluck to all! Stay tuned, the celebration continues tomorrow!

22nd July 2013

it’s my birthday week, so we’re celebrating all week long on color me courtney, yay!

i love to plan parties and give gifts… to other people! but when the tables are turned, it’s hard for me to sit back and receive (i think it’s a weird controlling thing!) so i’m kicking off this week by celebrating all of by giving away one of my go-to earring styles!
the lucky winner will get to pick their gift from two kate spade options: a new pair of coral gumdrop studs or a fresh pair of gold “all wrapped up” bow studs!

and guess what, i have a special connection to both of them!
the gold bow studs we’re my first pair of kate spade earrings, actually my first kate spade jewelry piece in general! they were a gift from my good friend Katrina, and resulted in my boyfriend, paris getting me the all wrapped up bow ring that i have worn almost daily for almost four years. I wear my gold bow studs just as much and am even wearing them in my drivers license photograph!
“all wrapped up” ring that matches earrings in gingham girl // full post
the flo coral gumdrops are also very special to me,
they were the first pair of gumdrops i invested in, while starting my career with kate spade out of san francisco! I also wore them to a very special tea with two of my favorite ladies! Oh and did i mention they are no longer making this color in this shape?

Style File – Coney Island

20th July 2013

A while back, I had the pleasure of styling my beautiful bestie Dené (a gorgeous model who takes the most stunning pictures) in a coney island inspired photoshoot by Liquid Shutter. The shoot was inspired by one of my favorite music videos Cool by Gwen Stefani in combination with a fabulous Coney Island Engagement photo shoot that is beyond adorable! (Check it out at Ruffled). Anyways, check out Dené and her partner Alex

The first look shown above is flirty and effortless. A yellow bikini top toped with a cap sleeve H&M shoulder wrap all paired with a flowy white skirt, simple black peep toe Louboutins and a wrap leather belt from the Limited to add contrast and edge. I dressed Alex in a long sleeve yellow shirt with white cotton pants to play off of Dené’s ‘the fabulous girl next door look.

I love this second look, Dené looks like some kind of Summer Cremesicle Dream Girl! She’s wearing my favorite  orange Forever21 summer dress (perfect for this shoot because the style gives a vintage feel but the length and color keeps it current and fresh) paired with brown lace up Vince Camuto wedge booties that to me scream “I’m that fashionable, functional, fabulous girl you wish was one of the boys”. I offset the brightness of Dene’s dress by putting Alex in a simple blue striped tee and cotton white pants, giving him a clean, crisp sort of vibe.

Although it is somewhat hidden in the picture, this next look was a jean romper from Forever with a fabulously big red bow belt from H&M while Alex wore a simple white cotton button down and jeans.
The final look was Alex in a simple white tee and cuffed Jeans for that retro feel, who fed Dene some cotton candy. Meanwhile Dené strutted in peep toe Louboutins flowy satin Forever21 shorts, synched with a wide teal woven belt from Nordstrom and a vintage polkadot tie half top. This is the kind of outfit made for a girl with legs, because most people would drown in these shorts, but on Dené they are a glossy, polished touch to a Summer Bombshell sort of ensemble.
Wouldn’t it be nice to have legs that go on for days like Dene, I’m jealous!

15th July 2013

today we’re saying yes stripes and chambray, plus i discuss my everyday accessory: fashion forward frames.
glasses used to be only for geeks, but now with so many cute frames out there… they’ve basically become a fashion accessory.

frames can get expensive, so i buy readers and have my eye doctor pop out the magnification lenses and put in my prescription.
