Twirl, Twirl

29th April 2015

IMG_7446       There’s something kind of magical about the perfect pair of shoes, they can transform your day the way they transform your wardrobe by giving it that instant face-lift to really make a look special. IMG_7480IMG_7397IMG_7400Throughout history, some have tackled this challenge of finding the perfect shoe to finish an outfit with more grace than the next, but in my mind, no one does a shoe justice like Carrie Bradshaw, so it’s no surprise that I looked to her for inspiration when styling these gorgeous Emmy London shoes from Kleinfeld Bridal.IMG_7431IMG_7514IMG_7420I’m sort of obsessed with a classic shoe, the t-strap nature of these pretty pumps give a crazy girly yet kind of 40-s vibe. It was a challenge to stop myself from doing the cha-cha throughout my neighborhood while wearing them. The shoes are actually an exclusive designer only offered in New York at Kleinfeld Bridal (yes, ‘Say Yes To the Dress’ Kleinfeld Bridal – it’s true they sell accessories that anyone can walk in and purchase too). They have a killer shoe boutique filled with everything from Jimmy Choo to Kate Spade and including these pretties from Emmy London! IMG_7510IMG_7496Since these shoes were so dressy, they would be perfect for a tulle dress or even with a blush pant suit or jump suit for a night out. I wore mine in true Carrie Bradshaw fashion with a monochromatic skirt & sweater combo. A messy top knot and pretty pearls were the final touches for this look!

Black & white stripes and multi-colored floral almost always look so good together! The simplicity of the stripes is the perfect bestie of a flirty, louder print like floral plus the juxtaposition of all of the colors against basic B&W work together seamlessly! floral print and stops floral print and stripes spring fashion spring outfit spring style spring looks spring style 2015 what to wear for spring spring stylingcolor me courtney color me courtney color me courtney color me courtney color me courtney colormecourtney colormecourtney colormecourtney colormecourtney colormecourtney.com color me courtney blog color me courtney fashion blogger black fashion blogger niece fashion blogger new york fashion blogger black fashion blogger
Since I’m kind of bananas for pattern play, I even added another print to the mix by layering leopard over it all with my favorite clutch! I totally consider leopard a neutral, so I thought why not add it to the mix? It probably made the outfit a little overboard, but I totally don’t mind it. I actually often layer leopard as my third & final print for a look.color me courtney color me courtney color me courtney color me courtney color me courtney colormecourtney colormecourtney colormecourtney colormecourtney colormecourtney.com color me courtney blog color me courtney fashion blogger black fashion blogger niece fashion blogger new york fashion blogger black fashion bloggerfloral and leopard print floral and leopard flowers and leopard floral print and leopard print stripes and floral and leopard print The stripes shirts & floral skirt combo are your go-to for print mixing, but I didn’t have a bright floral midi to make this look work – so instead I made one! I tucked the top of this dress (see it as a dress here) into the bottom half of the dress before zipping it up as much as I could and stepping into it as a skirt! I love this trick and use it often to expand my wardrobe… and it totally fools everyone, no one ever suspects its a anything but skirt 😉floral and leopard print floral and leopard flowers and leopard floral print and leopard print stripes and floral and leopard print

#GSD – Tips for productivity

28th April 2015

IMG_7684 Happy Cubical Day! (I bet you didn’t even know that was a holiday) but in celebration I’m sharing a few tips on creating a function and fun work space so you can GSD (Get stuff done!)
IMG_7688Although you’ll mostly see floral dresses and striped crop tops here on Color Me Courtney, I do get a lot of questions surrounding how I juggle a full time job working in the corporate fashion world (I work at Coach in Product Development for handbags) and running Color Me Courtney. The short answer is, its no easy and you have to stay totally focused, productive and organized (which I am not necessarily by nature) to keep from going totally bananas. One thing that I have found helps so much is to create a really great work space that’s equal parts organized, inspiring and ultimately fun!IMG_7717
1 – ALL OF THE SUPPLIES It’s okay to overdo it on the supply front – maybe you don’t need three notebooks, four pencils and a pair of gold scissors and a matching gold stapler but maybe you do. I like to have everything I could possibly need within arm’s reach so I don’t have to get up from my desk like ever. I also like to add touches of home, like succulent plants (I’m from Arizona) and my French Bulldog Calendar to keep the good vibes coming as I’m working away!IMG_7670
2 – DIMINISH DISTRACTIONS – I love spring, but when the flowers start to bloom so do my allergies. Although Allegra is currently my BFF, she wouldn’t do a thing for me without a trusty Kleenex or two – hence why you’ll find crazy cute Betsey Johnson for Kleenex product almost everywhere on my desk. I know that if I burst into an allergy attack and have to run to the bathroom for tissue, my ADD will kick in and I’ll get distracted along the way and start play with Waffles or clean my kitchen and never make it back to blogging – whoops. The best way to prevent this is to keep some of my Betsey Johnson edition Kleenex on my desk for easy access – plus the boxes are so stinking cute that they double as decor!IMG_7734
3 – JUST ADD COLOR (or pattern… or both) – A little pattern never hurt nobody, intact it lifts me up when I’m drowning in emails – so there’s nothing I love more than adding a little “fun” to my work place with bright colors, bold patterns and fun office accessories. I paired striped pieces with floral accessories and the fun printed kleenex product for a wild desk party!
4 – KEEP IT CLEAN – I’m really, really messy oh and I eat, like a lot! So I need to keep my work space clean despite all of the crumbs. I use my hand towels to wipe my space clean often and keep the place from not turning into a total disaster.IMG_7690
5 – GET CREATIVE – You’ve got to work with what you got and sometimes get creative! I turned my Kleenex hand towel box into letter holder on my desk when I was done with them and am totally loving the end result.IMG_7723
If you’re also totally crushing on this cool Betsey Johnson for Kleenex Collab you can read more about it herefind out where to purchase your goodies here. Plus I would love to learn how you get productive! IMG_7705
Big thanks to Kleenex for partnering on this post and be sure to check them out on Facebook & Twitter Also, thank you for supporting brands that support this blog! As always, all opinions and thoughts are my own :)

I like Big Bows

25th April 2015

IMG_6638… and I cannot lieIMG_6702IMG_6672

IMG_6658IMG_6694

There’s something kind of obnoxious but still really awesome about wearing a big giant bow. You feel crazy girly and also kind of just crazy all at once. Some people stop and stare, in both positive and negative ways but I really don’t mind, after all I like wearing a big giant bow despite the attention it may bring.IMG_6739IMG_6660IMG_6647

It’s no secret that bows are kind of my thing, but it can be hard to wear them in a semi chic way without looking totally bananas – I hope I kind of sort of achieved that by pairing a large girly-skirt with a tight fitting bodice and scrappy sandals. Together, this crazy girl look was perfect for a Sunday of brunch with some of my favorite blogger babesIMG_6703

#tbt – Lacoste

23rd April 2015

IMG_6466Okay, don’t hate me but Thursday is actually my favorite day of the work week (yep, even over Friday… I know, I’m bananas) and today I’ll tell you why!IMG_6362IMG_6317If I had a super power, it would totally be time travel … well that and the ability to generate sprinkles with my mind, but that’s another story. How could would it be to go to a sock hop in the fifties, tease your hair to increase your height in the eighties or hang out with your grandma as a teenager… the answer? so cool. Well, I can’t exactly time travel (yetstay tuned) but for now, I can kind of sort of travel back into time every Thursday.. oh according to instagram, throw back Thursday.IMG_6352So I don’t know who started this whole #tbt thing (that’s throw back Thursday, get it?), but we should totalllly be besties, because they’re probably my favorite person. Not only do I love seeing ugly childhood photos and sharing baby photos of Waffles. To power me through the work day, I tune to some serious #tbt jams like Britney pre-buzz cut and all of those awesome 90’s boy bands we swore to marry (move over One Direction … no jk, you’re awesome and I love you). If you wan’t to jam along, I created a super-cool playlist sure to give you flashbacks to puppet-inspired music videos, platform shoes and my personal favorite, guys with spiked hair & bleach blonde highlights. I also take the #tbt theme a bit further. I’ve been known to challenge myself fashion wise on thursdays, but taking an old or out of trend piece and trying to make it current, wearing something vintage or just paying homage to fashion heritage – which is the case for today!

check out the playlist hereIMG_6259IMG_6440Lacoste has the ultimate #tbt campaign going on, where they use old ads and vintage marketing media to crazy cool clothing! The result – is refreshing, modern and yet surpassingly timeless, but I’ve come to expect nothing less from this iconic brand. Furthermore, I kind of sort of love when history mega-brands take a nod to where they’ve been as the propel in the future, way to go Lacoste! Here’s a look at the vintage pieces in the L!ve line…

IMG_6301

I love a good graphic tee, but went a little gaga for this ah-mazing screen printed sweatshirt (and so did my boyfriend, he actually asked to wear it to work the day after I shot this hah). It’s crazy cute with a fitted mini, and I played with print a bit by pairing camo for a fun & flirty twist and finished the look with sporty accessories.IMG_6398

Color Me Doodles

22nd April 2015

I consider myself kind of a creative person, I mean you have to be a little bit bananas to pair stripes with leopard and turn your dresses into skirts but that can’t be all crazy, it has to be a little bit creative… right?FullSizeRensder

The flowers are blooming, birds are chirping and everything is just so dang beautiful I really can’t take it … resulting in most mornings spent dancing and singing off-key through my neighborhood, I hope my neighbors don’t mind. Anyways, one of the best parts of spring? Floral dresses and I may have found the prettiest of them all!spring style what to wear for springg ootd spring outfit spring look style blogger black fashion blogger the best fashion blogger fashion blogger to follow the blonde salad sincerely jules gal meets glam pink peonies

I’m so crazy obsessed with the slightly off-the-shoulder-meets-boat-neck nature of this dress, plus the exploded floral print gives a modern twist to a betty-draper-esque silhouette! To play with the larger-than-life floralness going on here, I had to shoot with my new favorite apartment accessory – these giant red roses!spring style what to wear for springg ootd spring outfit spring look style blogger black fashion blogger the best fashion blogger fashion blogger to follow the blonde salad sincerely jules gal meets glam pink peoniescolor me courtney color me courtney color me courtney colormecourtney.com colormecourtney.com colormecourtney.com new york fashion blogger new york fashion blogger new york fashion blog spring style spring ootd spring look of the day what to wear for spring spring style blogger sun dress floral sun dress floral sun dress floral dress fifties dress retro dress floral retro dress floral retro sun dress floral dress floral spring dress white floral dress midi dressSo remember my earlier allergy comment? The sneeze struggle is real for me right now, and although I love waking up with roses next to my bed (yellow ones are my fav) I don’t like fighting through swollen, puffy eyes to see them – sexxaay. So really cool paper flowers make the perfect substitute, I think fake flowers can get kind cheesy looking unless you splurge for the really expensive ones, so I like that these flowers are obviously paper and oversized to make a super big statement.color me courtney color me courtney color me courtney colormecourtney.com colormecourtney.com colormecourtney.com new york fashion blogger new york fashion blogger new york fashion blog spring style spring ootd spring look of the day what to wear for spring spring style blogger sun dress floral sun dress floral sun dress floral dress fifties dress retro dress floral retro dress floral retro sun dress floral dress floral spring dress white floral dress midi dress

It’s Festival Season, Yo

18th April 2015

00000260It’s festival season, and we all know what that means crop tops & flower crowns galore… Barf.0000032300000342So if my full-skirt obsession and high heal habits didn’t convince you, now I’m making it real clear – I’m not really a festival-season-kinda-gal. I’m more Blaire Waldorf, and less, ehh ke$ha lol. It’s not that I don’t love a good flower crown (okay that’s kind of the reason) it’s just that I’m not really into the whole, hippie,-dippie carefree, boho, let’s do peyote kind-of-thin (am I way off here? what really goes on at Coachella) plus the idea of camping out in the desert for a week with lots of sand and little (to no) showers kind of gives me the heebie jeebies – I need my hot water yo! But the kinda cool thing about Coachella, South by Southwest and all of those other desert-based festivals (confession, that’s about all I know and I only learned what SxSW was this year when I received brand invites lolz) is that now fashion so such a huge part of them – so that’s pretty freaking rad.00000330I’m not sure when we decided a music was the “new hip opportunity” to debut a brands new fashion collection, but I kind of dig it. I think it’s a cool time to interact with customers on a new level and a way for brands to really resonate with their target market, or even their not-so-target market in a relaxed and modern setting. Okay, enough with the marketing mumbo jumbo (is my MBA showing?) festival season also gives you an excuse to go food truck cray, channel your inner rave goddess, become a glow stick pro and if you really have to, wear a flower crown in public without being scrutinized, but rather worshiped like some kind of Coachella queen of the desert… So am I going to Coachella this year? No, will I next year? Don’t quote me on it, but no, probably not… But can I get on board with ditching my bra for a bikini and embracing two day old hair, oh heck yeah I just don’t know why I have to flight across the country to get in on this action?0000029500000262For this festival-esqe look I turned to aerie & American eagle, because they have a little bit of that boho vibe without being too bananas about it. Plus I love their continuous nods to their American heritage without throwing it in your face like “omg American flag”, we get it, you’re an american brand but we don’t need to swallow stars and stripes to get your point across… anyways, I’m rambling, but they do it in a subtle and stylish way. So when I needed “festival fashion”, they were the perfect partner for creating this chillaaxxeddd look – that’s perfect for Coachella or just somewhere coastal (ps is it summer yet?). A girly-Lacey bikini in a fun pop of color, prevented me from wearing a bra (score) while providing a little color pop when layered under a flowy poncho-sweater-scarf-shall-hybrid that I won’t be taking off until Fall … okay, Winter! I paired it with basic distressed denim shorts, an easy basic and must have for Spring/summer before adding studded sandals, a crocheted backpack and black sunnies. Oh and so you could still recognize me, I added a bright orange lip 😉0000032100000334You may have noticed my hair grew a bit 😉 how very perceptive of you! Since I was already challenging chillax-Courtney, who lives in Palm Springs, dances at dawn, designs sunglasses by day, DJs by night, lives off coconut water, almonds, pineapples and kale, has three secret tattoos and an adopted pet elephant named Alister (whoa, she sounds awesome), she also hasn’t cut her hair in three years, but has no split ends and loves a good fish tale… Braid that is. Anyways, if you’re more like the realll Color Me Courtney you’ll usually see here, a New York based mess of a 20-something with a short hair don’t care attitude, you can achieve chillax-Courtney’s look with clip in extensions and a messy fishtale braid! Are you guys into this look? Maybe I’ll post a tutorial soon?!0000035900000336

Confession – posts like this always make me really nervous when I showcase a different side of my style or sometimes a total alter ego (yah, I’m kind of a style schizophrenic, so what) I never know what you guys are going to think or how you’ll respond (where’s that dang monkey-covering-the-eyes-emoji when you need it!!) Anyways I would totally love if you weighed in below, do you love chillax courtney’s style, just kind of like it or are you totally not into it but would still probably sit next to her on the school bus… as long as she showered after her week long desert dancing tour…. either way, I WANNA KNOW! Okay that is all, byezzz

There are a few ways to get through it, take a night off and spend it with a friend (Waffles and I had the best time with Olivia and her puppy Batman tonight, it really helped me unwind), binge watch dance moms, eat your weight in pie… or donuts or both or the healthier option is to think of your happy place – I know, I just can’t help myself with a ll the corny-ness tonight, but really it works!shes quick and curious and playful and strong striped dress color me courtney fashion blog spring style fashion blogger to follow follow this fashion blogger what fashion blogger should you follow fashion blogger follow fashion blogger to follow fashion blogger to follow color me courtney spring fashion blogger spring fashion blogger shes quick and curious and playful and strong striped dress color me courtney fashion blog spring style fashion blogger to follow follow this fashion blogger what fashion blogger should you follow fashion blogger follow fashion blogger to follow fashion blogger to follow color me courtney spring fashion blogger spring fashion blogger color me courtney color me courtney color me courtney colormecourtney colormecourtney.com color me courtney blog orange oranges oranges stripes striped dress stripe spring dress panama hat how to wear a panama hat stripe dress stripe bow dress stripe bow stress bow stripe dress searsucker dress sear sucker dress stripe dresscolor me courtney color me courtney color me courtney colormecourtney colormecourtney.com color me courtney blog orange oranges oranges stripes striped dress stripe spring dress panama hat how to wear a panama hat stripe dress stripe bow dress stripe bow stress bow stripe dress searsucker dress sear sucker dress stripe dress

So yes, this looks like one white floral dress, it’s actually two pieces (I know, bananas right?). although I could have totally invested in the perfect white floral dress, it would also be super limiting. Yeah I could wear it with a denim jacket and flats, or as is but it would look pretty much he same every time. But, with a floral top and skirt combo, you can wear the skirt with a striped crop top, white tank or even a cute graphic tee for something whimsical & fun, and you can try the tee with white jeans, distressed denim or a little bit f leopard for some pattern play.color me courtney color me courtney colormecourtney colormecourtney.com fashion blogger spring outfit spring dress spring style white floral floral dress cute spring floral dress spring floral white spring dress spring style what to wear for spring white floral spring midi skirt how to wear floral floral for spring white spring floral black fashionblogger best fashion blogger style blogger best fashion style bloggers fashion bloggers black fashion blogger black fashion style blogger style bloggers black fashion bloggers colormecourtney.com fashion blogger black fashion bloger spring style spring trends floral trends floral for spring spring pastels pastel tend spring springs 2015 what to wear for spring 2015 floral for spring 2015 spring 2015 spring 15 spring style spring fashion spring style spring style trends midi skirt floral midi skirt white floral midi skirt cherry blossoms cherry blossom midi skirt color me courtney fashion bloggercolormecourtney.com fashion blogger black fashion bloger spring style spring trends floral trends floral for spring spring pastels pastel tend spring springs 2015 what to wear for spring 2015 floral for spring 2015 spring 2015 spring 15 spring style spring fashion spring style spring style trends midi skirt floral midi skirt white floral midi skirt cherry blossoms cherry blossom midi skirt color me courtney fashion bloggerAlthough I love how white looks, I am a total clutzilla and usually end up destroying it… whoops!
