Striped in Barcelona

31st May 2016

Greetings from Barcelona! I love rocking red, white and blue for Memorial Day, even from abroad.

I’ve sailed off through the Mediterranean with Princess Cruises, first stop? Spain! After arriving at the airport in Barcelona, we checked into our hotel in Sitges for one night. We spent half of the first day exploring that charming little town in Spain (see more here) and the second half in the city of Barcelona, only a short ride away!Since I’ll be spending the next week or so at sea, I decided to dress the part with this nod to the nautical. I love the oversized sleeves on this tee, it’s just SO comfortable and the perfect travel top! I actually wore most of this outfit (minus the sneakers) on my flight home from San Francisco earlier last week (don’t judge me) and was crazy comfortable. It’s no secret that I’m short, and somewhat stout, so an oversized tee just doesn’t quite do it for me. So to tailor this look to my body, I tucked the top into my favorite high waisted jeans to help create a shape all while keeping the look comfy and casual.

This top is fun, but the real star of this show has to be a tie between my striped tote and kiss me sneakers! I found these cuties when I was shopping for this trip and fell in love instantly. They reminded me of the sneakers I designed for Keds last year, but in a fun summer style! I love that these sneakers can elevate any look enough to dress up jeans and a tee or they even pair perfectly with a shirt dress and a statement bag! Speaking of statements, I love the look of this larger than life tote and the serious drama it brings to the outfit. Anything oversized is an automatic attention grabber, so just make sure you pick pieces that draw the eye for the right reason, like this simple statement tote! It’s also great for carrying around a camera, sunscreen, your hat (when things get windy) and any other tourist toys you’re bringing on your trip!

From Barcelona, we boarded with Princess Cruises and set sale off on an Mediterranean adventure! I can’t wait to get started and explore this side of the world all from the comfort of my cabin room! As a blogger, packing (and unpacking) across Europe sounds like the worst thing ever – so really seeing everything from a floating hotel is the best way to Travel in style! SO without any further ado, lets kick of this Princess party and start sailing!

Coral Coords!

29th May 2016

IMG_4859In case you haven’t noticed, I kind of have a thing for bright colors!IMG_4860FullSizeRender

I’m all about a seriously saturated outfit – make it a coordinating set and I’m even MORE on board!IMG_4861IMG_4864

I found this darling double feature at Hollister and fell in love. I actually popped by the store, which I hadn’t done since like high school (I mean, because … online shopping … duh), while I was up town for meetings and had to have it. The prices were actually a lot more affordable than I remember from my HS days, it also might just be that my allowance has increased a bit 😉 but whatever, I’m taking it as a win. I picked up this coordinating set, another off the shoulder top, some high waisted shorts and a third crop top all for around $150, a crazy score even 18-year old Courtney would have been impressed with.IMG_4863IMG_4862

I feel like a coordinating set like this one from Hollister just screams summer, actually all of their new arrivals right now make me want to put on bug spray, eat some s’mores or have a bon fire on the beach… anything to get me in that summer mood!  It was the perfect set to pack on my cruise with Princess, I wore it not only off the boat while exploring, but also on the boat while eating everything. I love the elastic waist in the shorts, it was perfect for my late night trips to the gelato bar or buffet because there was no short supply of food on board! I paired mine with scalloped flats, a boater hat and turquoise accessories for that extra pop! I also think these dressier details help elevate this “summer cool” style, but you could also rock this two piece with some fun sandals, a cool wedge or under a denim jacket!IMG_4858

Shirt the Rules!

25th May 2016

I’m a big, BIG fan of the perfect shirtdress. Make it striped & add pockets and I’m totally smitten and this candy coated dream dress does just that … and more!

Not sure why I promised more, it pretty much does just that but you get the point, right?! As you know, I’m all about a perfect shirt dress for spring and summer …. and especially for vacations. If you’re hoping anywhere awesome this year, you kind of need one (or like four) tucked away in your suitcase.

Shirt Dress also work for almost every body type, depending on the one you choose.shirtdress shirtdresss

I fell in seriously LOVE with this candy striped print when I first saw it this spring. I love that it has pops of pastels along side more classic colored hues for some contrast and serious fun. Sometimes I’ll dress it down with white sneakers and a pony, but today I cranked it up with pink pumps and the cutest little baby bag.

Although it’s pretty much summer, NYC missed the memo. Since we’re still fighting off semi-chilly spring days, I’ve been clinging to my classic trench coat for warmth – I also love how it compliments this outfit and tones it down just a bit!

Mirror Mirror on the Wall, how do I make this outfit not boring, at all!

FullSizeRender 6

As you guys know, I keep it pretty colorful here at colormecourtney – hence the name. But sometimes I like to switch things up to keep you guys on your toes … and today is one of those days!

FullSizeRender 10

It’s no secret that this look is all black, but that doesn’t mean it has to be bland! If you’re a color queen, looking to shelf her saturation for a serious switch up, you’re in luck! Here comes three ways to wear black without looking boring!

FullSizeRender 91 – Make a statement, or two, or three
All black doesn’t have to mean boring or basic, pair your look with a bold bag, statement shoes or some fun sunnies to add a little spark without any color. If you’re kind of over the top like me, you can wear all three … because after all, more is more!FullSizeRender 14

2 – Show some skin
Break up your black with a little skin! Ripped knee jeans or an off the shoulder shirt are the perfect way to break up an otherwise solid black look.FullSizeRender 8FullSizeRender 7

3 – Do something with your hair
Call me crazy, but the outfit doesn’t always have to be the star of the show. When I rock something all black or more basic, I like to give another part of my look time to shine! In this case, it’s my hair! I switched up my normal style by doing two double dutch french braids to kick some boring #ootd but!FullSizeRender 15

Oh and if none of the above work for you, don’t fret – just get a frenchie (like you needed a reason 😉 !)FullSizeRender 13

IMG_3604What’s better than a denim jacket? A denim jacket with a little pizzaz that’s what!IMG_3609FullSizeRender

I am all about clothing with a little (okay, a lot) of personality because I want what I wear to make a statement! FullSizeRender 3

I recently fell in love with this patchwork denim number by Michaela Buerger and thought it was just perfect for Summer. I get cold really easily, so from May to September I pretty much wear or bring a denim jacket with me everywhere I go. I have a few styles from a cute cropped version, to an over sized boyfriend one but had yet to find one that really screams Summer quite like this cutie!FullSizeRender 2FullSizeRender 4

I know some people make fun of the Canadian Tuxedo but I love the look of denim on denim, especially when it’s a party up top with a fun patchwork jacket! I kept the party going throughout the whole look with a bold lip, stripe tee and a fun watermelon bag!

Minnie Me!

16th May 2016

Today’s blog post is a magical one inspired by little Miss Mouse

If you follow me on instagram, you know I love visiting the happiest place on earth … and that a few weeks ago I escaped to Disney World for a few days with some girlfriends! Last time I did Disney it was Fall, so I was living in over the knee boots and the occasional leather jacket. But since Summer is right around the corner I wanted to create some theme park ready looks for your next trip to fantasy land, all inspired by Minnie!

My Bow is by Kutie Bow Tuties

Minnie Mouse has always been one of my style icons, I mean what’s not to love? Polka dots, bows, glitter? She’s basically got all the bases covered. But dressing up as a Minnie Me doesn’t have to be that straight forward. When looking for Disney outfit inspo, I challenge you to dress outside the lines a bit and push the boundaries!

My Polka dot Coord Set is from Hottiewood!! If you love my style, you’ll love their stuff

If you’re heading to Florida or California to get your Disney fix this summer, it’s going to be hot! Florida in April was a seriously gross & sticky, it was about 90 degrees with some serious humidity – so I relied on my trusty crop top & skirt (or short) combo for my #ootds! Themes of the looks included matchy matchy polka dots, stripes, and bows – all very minnie-esque moments to help keep the magic alive all day long!My Ears are by Kutie Bow Tuties

Oh and if that wasn’t enough to get ready for a day of Disney – here are more Minnie looks for your next big adventure!

Cruisin’ – Bermuda Travel Diary

15th May 2016

IMG_2369

ALL ABOARD! I’m so excited because today I’m giving you a little travel diary of my recent cruise to Bermuda. I’ll be giving you all the details of what went down on our trip, so grab your passports because we’re off on an escapade!

Lately I’ve totally caught the travel bug! From La to Japan and everywhere in-between I’ve been on ALOT of a fun trips this year and there are so many more just around the corner. To be honest, Japan will be really hard to top, but my recent Royal Caribbean Cruise to Bermuda with some SERIOUS blogger babes gave it a run for it’s money.

IMG_2786

This time last week, I fresh of the boat from this 6 day, 5 night epic adventure! We departed from New Jersey which is PERFECT for New Yorkers, because its just a quick uber ride (or pubic transit trip) from the city. The boat took off around 3 so I had to fashionable late and roll up right before we docked #oops! I recommend getting to any port two or three ours before so you don’t cut it close like I did – I was a nervous wreck the whole time!

IMG_2343

CRUISIN’ – After arrive on the boat I was AMAZED by the spacious size of my room & quickly made myself at home by unpacking before we set sail. Later, we cleaned ourselves up and skipped off to dinner. Dinner was one of my favorite parts of each of our days on the boat. I loved being able to just hang out with the other bloggers on the trip and stuff my face! Plus since your food is included in your package, you’re basically eating for free – I can’t lie there were multiple nights where I doubled up on appetizers and/or desserts because of this!

The first day on the boat was awesome! I get carsick after 5 minutes of riding so I thought I would be miserable, but it wasn’t bad at all and I totally got my sea legs! We spent the first half of the day exploring the boat and (TBH) taking photos because #bloglife. I was SO blown away by all of the vibrant colors, murals and cool places for photos we found on the boat – it was just up my alley! So many people ask me where I am able to find such bright backgrounds, so from now on I might just suggest you get on a boat to shoot some seriously epic #ootd shots – okay, I’m kidding … well kind of!

After shooting, we found endless activities to entertain us during our day at sea. The Anthem of the Seas boat had everything from Roller Skating to Dance Classes, even including other fun things like bumper cars, indoor skydiving an outdoor race track, basketball and more… oh and don’t even get me started on the three pools and countless hot tubs!

BERMUDA
– The next morning we arrived in Bermuda and hopped off the boat to start exploring! We arrived in Kings Warf and took a $7 bus ride to Jacob’s cove – it was a little bit further than where the rest of the cruisers landed but still only a 30 min ride from the boat, and it totally paid off. Instead of being covered in cruisers and totally overflowing with people, it was practically deserted! We found one part of the cove to call our own and were pretty much the only people there for most of the day, it was amazing!

IMG_3130

I was totally blown away by the color of the water (aqua) and the hue of the sand (PINK!) at Jacob’s cove! A local told us that tiny bits of coral make up the pink sand feature and it may have been one of the most remarkable things I’ve ever seen – YOU HAVE TO GO! We ended the day with dinner in Kings Warf before drifting off to sleep, sun burned yet satisfied at all the adventure we encountered

The second day in Bermuda we ventured to a different part of the Island – the city of Hamilton. You can either take a car (45 min) or a boat (35 min) to Hamilton from Kings Warf and I would highly recommend the boat ride because it’s gorgeous and quicker!

IMG_2246

In Hamilton you’ll find lots of small shops, bars, restaurants and colorful buildings to enjoy! We did a whole lot of nothing, just wandered around and took it all in before heading back to the boat.

Few more tips for life on the Island:
Bring Cash – places that take credit can be hard to find
Keep it comfy – expect to wander and walk a bit, sometimes through sand so keep that in mind with your outfit planning
(And if you’re a blogger)  Bring a few extra #ootds – The island is covered with #instagramable locations so you’re gonna want to get your shot on in this picturesque place!

BACK ON THE BOAT – Our next and last full day of the trip was spent on the boat riding back to New York (well technically New Jersey). We hit a bit of rough water and stormy weather, but there was so much to do on the boat (including indoor pools, karaoke and a silent dance party where you’re jamming in a club with strangers while all wearing headphones) the weather didn’t get us down! We danced our way back to the docks before getting off the boat and saying our tearful goodbyes the next morning!

Going, Going, Gingham!

10th May 2016

FullSizeRender 8Everyone needs a seasonal shirt dress!FullSizeRender 7IMG_2883

It’s comfortable, cute and fits like a dream – plus it usually has pockets and its totally twirl-worthy so COUNT ME IN!

IMG_2876

When traveling, a shirt dress and sneakers is a winning combination. I took this gingham cutie for a twirl around Bermuda when we got off the boat to explore! My hair was looking all kinds of color me crazy so I hid it in my favorite boater hat and skipped my way around this colorful island!

IMG_2884

Although for this look I toted a pom pom beach bag, I’m usually a teenie tiny crossbody girl, known for carrying bags so small, they often don’t even fit my phone! Other times, I go completely bag free (gasp) so a dress with pockets is a total game changer and must have for me.

IMG_2875

Not to toot my own horn here, but I think pink gingham one is probably cutest shirt dresses I’ve seen all season! Also, I was watching New Girl the other Night and Jess, AKA Zooey Deschanel has it and wore it all episode long – so you know it’s a keeper 😉

If you’re going somewhere warm this season, there are a few things you need to bring with you in your suitcase:

1 – An off the shoulder shirt, like this striped one that I can’t get enough of! I wore it all last summer and plan on doing the same this year!

2 – A bright skirt (or two) I picked up a bright orange skirt like this one last summer as well and always bring it with me on a tropical get away!colormecourtney color me courtney colormecourtney.com @colormecourtney color me courtney instagram color me courtney blog black fashion bloggers new york city fashion blogger NYC fashion blogger nyc fashion blogger new york juliah engle fashion blog african american fashion blogger vogue fashion pinterest fashion street style blogger style what bloggers wear best fashion bloggers rach martino fashion bloggers julia hengle gal meets glam with love from kat bloggers to follow taylor swift style zooey deschanel style taylor swift fashion zooey deschanel fashion amber filler barefoot blonde the best fashion bloggers best fashion bloggers new york pink peonies rachel parcell fun fashion blogger kate spade fashion blogger stripe fashion blogger polka dot fashion bloggers happy fashion blogger what to wear spring fashion spring style spring outfits spring style guide colormecourtney what to wear to bermuda what to wear on a cruisecolormecourtney color me courtney colormecourtney.com @colormecourtney color me courtney instagram color me courtney blog black fashion bloggers new york city fashion blogger NYC fashion blogger nyc fashion blogger new york juliah engle fashion blog african american fashion blogger vogue fashion pinterest fashion street style blogger style what bloggers wear best fashion bloggers rach martino fashion bloggers julia hengle gal meets glam with love from kat bloggers to follow taylor swift style zooey deschanel style taylor swift fashion zooey deschanel fashion amber filler barefoot blonde the best fashion bloggers best fashion bloggers new york pink peonies rachel parcell fun fashion blogger kate spade fashion blogger stripe fashion blogger polka dot fashion bloggers happy fashion blogger what to wear spring fashion spring style spring outfits spring style guide colormecourtney what to wear to bermuda what to wear on a cruise

3 – Something pom pom, like this fun Pom Pom Clutch! I love how playful it is and that the bright colors yet neutral pallet work with any outfit!

4 – Tassels, Tassels! These Tassel earrings I picked up from white elephant designs are one of my favorite statement pieces, the color is SO FUN and will brighten up any look. I wore them on replay, to dinner on the boat from exploring Bermuda!

5 – A bright lip! Like Lady Danger by Mac! To be the finishing touch to any outfit!

The best part of these pieces, is they can mix and match with each other to create a bunch of new, fun looks for your trip! To me that’s the most important part, because I’m all about maximizing your vary wardrobe so you can pack less but wear more!colormecourtney color me courtney colormecourtney.com @colormecourtney color me courtney instagram color me courtney blog black fashion bloggers new york city fashion blogger NYC fashion blogger nyc fashion blogger new york juliah engle fashion blog african american fashion blogger vogue fashion pinterest fashion street style blogger style what bloggers wear best fashion bloggers rach martino fashion bloggers julia hengle gal meets glam with love from kat bloggers to follow taylor swift style zooey deschanel style taylor swift fashion zooey deschanel fashion amber filler barefoot blonde the best fashion bloggers best fashion bloggers new york pink peonies rachel parcell fun fashion blogger kate spade fashion blogger stripe fashion blogger polka dot fashion bloggers happy fashion blogger what to wear spring fashion spring style spring outfits spring style guide colormecourtney what to wear to bermuda what to wear on a cruise
