Top Knot Tutorial

20th July 2016

IMG_9395 When it comes to hair care, I like to keep it simple when I can. I like products that are affordable, obtainable and easy to use – but also new and innovative! For as long as I can remember, I’ve been shopping for beauty products at drugstores or better yet, grocery stores while I pick up a few other necessities.IMG_9396IMG_9394

Today I’m excited to partner with Kroger to share a few of my current favorite Kroger find from Dove and Suave. PLUS I’ll be showing an easy tutorial that can help take your three day, dirty hair from drab to fab in an easy top knot. Oh and if that wasn’t enough, there’s also a giveaway below!FullSizeRender

For Shampoo and Conditioner, it’s always a wild card for me – especially in the summer. My hair gets damaged, dry and just disgusting in this New York heat! I needed something to switch up my routine, leave me feeling clean and fresh but also nourished… enter Suave Seaminerals! This her formula helps you achieve volume and moisture, which is much needed for me come summer. BONUS it smells delicious. It keeps my hair cleaner for longer so I can go days without needing to wash (my hair is so dry it doesn’t get oily – weird I know) but when I do hit that three day mark and I maybe need a new wash – I can stretch my locks one day longer with this easy top knot tutorial.

I used Dove Style + Care Hairspray to create my top knots – another great Kroger find! It has a pretty strong hold, but is also really flexible, which is important when you’re twirling your hair into a top knot. It also has shine which is the perfect way to help hide dry and damaged hair in a style like this. My secret is I spray before and after to make sure nothing falls out of place!

GIVEAWAY! – To sweeten the deal today, we’re giving away a curated gift basket from Kroger and a gift card to get your shopping on! Just leave a comment below and subscribe to my youtube channel.

IMG_9098There is never a short supply of fun things to do in the city, and thanks to LOFT here’s one more – an outdoor summer movie!IMG_9103IMG_9108

Summer movies under the stars are one of my favorite things to do al fresco this season, so I always make sure I attend at least one each year! Earlier this week, I headed to Solar One for the LOL Movie Series with LOFT to see one of my all time favorite movies, Clueless!IMG_9101

For this epic summer adventure, I needed an epic summer dress, duh! I wore the cutest polka dot drop waist shift dress from LOFT but made it my own with brown accents. Since I’m short and curvy, a shift dress isn’t usually my friend. I belted it at the waist to create a more fit and flare shape while showing off my smallest point! I can always rely on LOFT for affordable yet chic pieces that don’t break the bank, but can always be worn year after year. They really know how to walk the line between timelessness and trendiness to create showstopping pieces I’ll be able to wear for work or play!IMG_9096IMG_9105IMG_9100

The night was a blast. It started with live music (and pizza) before we got seats for a fun, live comedy show!  Then the fun really began as the sun finally set and we were able to start the show! I was sure to BYOB (bring my own blanket) for when things got chilly, but a denim jacket from LOFT would have also done the trick! If the night was a bit cooler (we’ve actually been having some pretty cool nights this summer)I could have even kept the polka dot party going with some cute spotted pants from LOFT and a flow sleeved blouse. Whatever you wear to this LOL movie night, make sure you make it fun & functional for a night under the stars!IMG_9099

If you missed the first movie night with LOFT, no fear, they are back next Tuesday (and the Tuesday after that, and the Tuesday after that) with more epic shows under the stars! The lineup includes movie favorites like Pitch Perfect, Pretty in Pink and When Harry Met Sally!

IMG_9074Summer is sweeter in sundresses and statement shoes!IMG_9076

I love to shop at Old Navy for summer essentials! I can always find something special to add to my dress collection. This month they are giving me some serious bohemian vibes with cool prints and muted colors, all done in a fun yet affordable way. I just recently snagged this sunshine sundress, to wear on replay! I’ve dressed it down with white sneakers or up a bit with a dressy wedge – for todays look I went with dressy casual, by pairing my favorite Old Navy shoes with a denim jacket and a boater hat, this look was perfect for a popsicle date at our favorite summer dessert destination.IMG_9072IMG_9071

When it gets hot, I need ice cream – stat! But a gelato a day isn’t always the healthiest of options, so sometimes we cut our calories by hopping to popbar in our neighborhood. There you can get a a custom pop, dipped in a variety of things and coated with whatever your cotton candy dreams desire! This time I went with a blood orange sherbet pop, half dipped in white chocolate in coconut, but I’m also known for getting a mango pop dipped in milk chocolate and coated with crushed cone and coconut!   IMG_9077IMG_9075   Whatever summer adventure is next on your agenda, I hope you have a blast and look amazing in something simple, yet fun like this sunshine dress from Old Navy! I think this season is one of the most fun to dress for, and a lack of layers doesn’t have to result in a lack of style!IMG_9078

LWD on Replay

14th July 2016

FullSizeRender 3A love me a LWD and to prove it, I live in them all summer long!FullSizeRender 10

This year, I splurged on this pretty lace number and have been wearing it on serious replay! No lie, I think I’ve taken it out for a twirl a dozen times this season and I’m refusing to apologize for it. I’ve rocked it to dinner, dancing, meetings and more. It’s come with me across Europe, to California and all over the city. It’s been to Tea in the west village, drinks with Chandon and to coffee with blogger babes like my girl, Chic Flavours.FullSizeRender 6FullSizeRender 8FullSizeRender 7FullSizeRender 2

Another blogger friend of mine, Lisa of Mind Body Swag is known for splurging on some seriously swoon-worthy pieces, but justifies her purchase by calculating the cost per wear. See, she’s all about quality over quantity, which can be a good method – I on the other hand am all over the place, I purchase what I like and justify later, it’s not always the smartest way to shop but it sure is fun!IMG_6404FullSizeRender 5FullSizeRender 9IMG_8662

Want to join the LWD moment? Of course you do! Shop some of my favorites below.

Anyways, although this dress has a $600 price tag when it’s all said in done, since I’ve worn it 15 times (or more, I really lost count) that brings the price of it down to $40 per wear… making it much more justifiable! I’m not say you always have to splurge on a $600 something, just that if you do, you might be able to justify the purchase if you aren’t afraid to rewear!IMG_8655FullSizeRender 12FullSizeRenderIMG_7729

Since I’m a a proud repeat offender in the wardrobe department, I’m not ashamed to re rock a dress in different ways. As you can see in this post, this killer LWD has been worn with flats, dressed up with heels, played off with a pop of red, worn with cute flats, dressy sneakers or brown wedges – I’ve even worn it with an oversized flower crown! The ways to wear it are endless.

Garden Party!

6th July 2016

IMG_8303Welcome to another party post, if you have no idea what I’m talking about, you can read about it here!

IMG_8312IMG_8315IMG_8307Hopefully, sometime this year you’ll be invited to a garden party! Some outdoor swanky soirée in a floral like setting! I’ve been to a few dreamy ones, and always have so much fun picking out what to wear. Now, Schultz makes these shoes with a thick heel, as a wedge or with a slightly lower heel – plus a few other brands have made dupes for less, I’ll link them below!IMG_8308IMG_8301

When in doubt, wear a floral skirt! A fit and flare skirt in a fun floral print with pockets is the perfect thing to wear to a garden party. It makes you feel instantly girly but also comfortable to eat everything your hostess has to offer without letting it show!IMG_8310IMG_8306

This look is business up top and party down below! This look has two personalities, a more conservative, classic and almost work-wear look up top with a white button up. I choose a sleeveless one for summer, but you could easily recreate this with a short sleeve or long sleeve pop over. To make the look party ready, I just added a black ribbon that I tied as a bow around my neck and buttoned the top up all the way. Then the flirty skirt, keeps the party going with the rest of the look!IMG_8302IMG_8314

Color Me Cliffnotes:IMG_8305

You can easily create this top with any white button up and a black ribbon! Or you can buy ones similar to this such as premade bows (Asos usually has the best selection).

IMG_8311I love the color of these heels and how they bring out some of the floral in this skirt! I’ve had them for two years now and always find a way to wear them about once a month. They dress up a simple black dress or even a pair of ripped jeans with ease.IMG_8309

I can’t rave enough about this skirt, I love the colors, fit, pattern (dress version here) and shape! It has a darling exposed gold zipper for an unexpected detail and has pockets – making it perfect to wear with a small purse or clutch for any garden party!IMG_8313

Make a Wish!

1st July 2016

Close your eyes, make a wish!party-intro

OMG GUYS! I’m so excited to share todays post and the kick off a month long celebration I have been planning for a while now!

Welcome to Color Me Party Month! A month long celebration leading up to my golden birthday.

Once upon a time, I had a class mate who who turned 11 on May 11th – sparking me to learn all about golden birthdays! I remember being instantly excited by the idea and expressed that I couldn’t wait until mine rolled around! She then reminded me that since I was born on July 26th, I would have to wait 15 years until I turned 26th before I could celebrate my golden birthday! The excitement quickly turned to sadness and then determination which came with a promise, a promise to celebrate the most epic of golden birthday’s ever in the year 2016 … and now, that day has come!

I’m so excited that the year of my golden birthday has finally arrived, that I’m celebrating in a big way! All month long I’ll be sharing 26 days of party-perfect content on instagram, other social networks and here on Color me Courtney. I’ll also be pinning all of that fun stuff to this confetti filled pinboard that I’ll fill with tons os inspiration for any future celebration you might be planning!

So GET EXCITED because this is just the beginning.
