Holiday LBD

16th November 2017

 IMG_0172    IMG_0168 IMG_0167     OMG I found the perfect LBD!IMG_0163

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – everyone needs a little black dress. But LBD doesn’t need to be BBD (basic black dress) or RRE (Really Really expensive) you can get the look for the less at the Outnet.IMG_0164IMG_0162IMG_0169

Shop Little Black Dresses under $200:

The outnet is your one stop shop for serious style with a not so serious price tag. Its the outlet version of net a porter so you know they have great stuff!IMG_0165IMG_0173

Shop Little Bright Dresses under $200:

When deciding to wear this little black dress to a holiday party the Outnet threw last week, I knew I had to find a way to make it more me! As someone who hardly ever wear black, I had to pop it up with not one, but three (or four) pops of color. From my signature red lip to the pom on my shoes, you can see one of my favorite colors shining through this look. One thing I used to wear almost every day in my exclusively vintage days is a crinoline underskirt – I love how it makes my skirt larger than life & adds the perfect pop of color.

img_2156Black Dress: 1960s Cassidy Wiggle Dress • $72  – (Also In Plus)
Everyone needs a little black dress in their closet! This cute body con one hugs in all the right places but is stretchy enough to keep you comfortable! I also love how its modest but still curvy girl friendly! Try pairing it was a cute coat, fun vintage inspired t straps or a fascinator like me! It would also look great with a fun glitter pump or a pop of color.

img_2197Burgundy: 1940s Luna Swing Dress with Capulet • $118   – (Also In plus)
A little red dress is so predictable for holiday, so switch things up with a burgundy one instead! I love that this one has the vintage inspired veil to keep you covered and give it a fun twist. Burgundy dresses look great with almost everything like a matching cranberry shoe or gloves!

img_2225Teal: 1950s Teal Delores Swing Dress with Sleeves • $88
Blue isn’t a color I normally wear but I’m trying to break that habit! I love that this tealy-blue color is so timeless you’ll be able to wear it year after year! Plus it looks so cute with white accessories like a white bag and matching beret.

img_2311Yellow: 1960s Mod Wiggle Dress • $58  – (Also in plus)
Yellow seams like an unexpected choice for holiday and to be frank it is, but that’s why I like it. In a sea of LBD’s and red dress you’ll stand out at your holiday party in this mustard body con dress! The best part is you could dress it up, or down and even make it work for the office depending on how you style it after the holidays.

Green: 1950s Emerald Tulle Cupcake Swing Dress • $118  – (Also in plus)
Going Green
– This season why not dress like a christmas tree! I feel in love with this tulle prom dress & thought it would be so cute for any holiday party! To dress it up even more I paired it with a fascinator and & glitter heels!

After you find the perfect dress don’t forget to shop Unique Vintage for darling shoes, the cutest bags, gloves & hats to complete the look.

Joy is in the Details

14th November 2017

IMG_0723 IMG_0728  There’s something special about this time of year. The weather gets colder, the days get shorter but still there is so much to celebrate. From enjoying the little things, to covering your apartment in Christmas décor, there are so many things to celebrate and ways to find joy within the details. IMG_0730IMG_0724

Since clothing is such a big part of my life, I love expressing myself at this time of year with bright colors and candy-coated details all while wearing some of my favorite brands. From cozy fall essentials, to darling bags I love stocking up at Cath Kidston for all my holiday favs. That’s where I found this sweet striped dress & matching scarf that will be in full rotation this season. IMG_0729IMG_0721

I first discovered Cath Kidston when on holiday in London. I was celebrating graduating with my undergraduate degrees with a trip to my two favorite cities, NYC and London (I lived in Arizona at the time). I was drawn into Cath Kidston because of the gorgeous and colorful floral display (it was the spring). I was then dazzled by their darling kitchen essentials, pastel hues, fun prints and so much more. I remember thinking it felt like I was on the inside of teacup in the best way possible. Years later (more than I would like to admit #old) this brand has grown so much and continued to be a favorite of mine. From cool collaborations with Disney to quirky styles, Cath Kidston has become the Home of Modern Vintage, and remained one of the most darling and charming brands for all seasons. IMG_0727

Now, I love finding unique pieces from them that become timeless wardrobe staples of mine. This bright colored stripe scarf will be something I’ll wear for years and look forward to pulling out when the seasons change. Aside from their style, Cath Kidston inspires others to integrate color into their world in whimsical ways and (most importantly) celebrates uniqueness through their patterns, which are specially designed by their team at their London Headquarters. Wearing colorful styles like these always brings a smile to my face, as well as those around me and helps me remember that you can find happiness in the simplest of places. IMG_0726IMG_0725

I’m excited to announce I’ll be sharing more about this brand throughout the season including a special new launch that I know you’ll love! Till then, check out their styles and gifting goodies galore and stay tuned for more!

World Kindness Day

13th November 2017

As I hope you know, my main goal with Color Me Courtney is to spread happiness, kindness, positivity and smiles in all forms. So today I’m sharing 3 ways to spread kindness the week in partnership with Crest!

7516809616_IMG_85741 – Wear Color – I can’t tell you how many frowns I watch turn upside down when they see me walking by in a rainbow sweater or big red coat. Especially at this time of year, when everyone is all about black & neutrals, seeing me as a big pile of color usually makes people smile or laugh and I’m totally okay with that. Dust off your red coat and ditch the black one today, I’m sure you’ll see a change in response when you walk by.

IMG_86922 – BYOB – Nothing makes strangers smile like wandering around with a big bouquet of balloons ! I always am toting around these candy colored creations for

IMG_13223 – SMILE! – This last one is easy and doesn’t cost a thing, just smile! Hold the door for someone and flash those pearly whites, make eye contact on the subway and smile or just hold your head up and smile while you’re walking around. A healthy, beautiful smile is the universal way to show someone you care and the easiest way to spread kindness.  It might feel weird at first, but it really will improve your mood and the mood of everyone else around you!IMG_5500

Crest is all about protecting your smile so you can share it with the world, and that’s why their products work overtime to keep your mouth healthy and happy. To celebrate this mission and continue to spread smiles, they partnered with Wonder a new moving hitting theaters this friday sure to make you smile. Check out the trailer hereFullSizeRender

I hope you found some easy inspiration to spread kindness today and this week! During this busy time of year it can be easy to get focused on ourselves and our own needs, but really making someone smile and spending kindness should and could be a priority for all of us! To join me and help spread some cheer on World Kindness Day post your own photo or post with #ChooseSmiles and #ChooseKind!

Color Crush – Cranberry

13th November 2017

IMG_0709 2IMG_0718IMG_0716It’s no secret the monochromatic outfits are having a major moment this season. While most tend to run from this trend or color in general when fall & winter comes, I dive right in. So today I’ll teach you how to master the monochrome & share a fail safe color I’m totally crushing on this season with Rue La La – a great online destination for shopping where it is free and easy to become a member

IMG_0714IMG_0717 2IMG_0715

I love shopping during the holidays because I can pick up some great pieces for myself like this burgundy look from Rue La La and start to check people off my list all in one trip. I prefer shopping online because its just easier when you live in a place like NYC and really can help you get creative with your outfit planning.

To kick off your holiday gifting and dressing, we worked together to create a color me boutique filled with a few of my picks! See it below.

(You’ll find all my pieces from this look linked there) IMG_0713IMG_0719

If you’re looking to create a monochromatic look this season here is how:

1 – Pick a Hero Hue – Anything from blue, to red or even yellow are great options to creating a monochromatic look. I this burgundy is the best place to start especially if you’re new to the do.

2 – Double up on your main course – To master the monochrome, you need two statement pieces in the same color family, things like a light blue sweater & a dark blue skirt, a pretty mathcing yellow top & pants or 3+ pieces in the same family could all work!

3 – Look for slight color variation – I think being totally matchy matchy is boring boring, so you want to either play with different textures that give the appearance of two or more pieces. For my look I’m wearing a silk dress with a wool coat in slightly different shades. I have a more red tone in my shoes and dress, and a darker berry hue with my coat, hat and bag so all in all it works.

4 – While you’re still starting out on the monochromatic spectrum you might want to use one piece like a black belt, white boots or even a contrasting colored scarf to break things up. Wearing all one color will undoubtedly turn heads, so using something to draw the eye away is a good defense mechanism until you’re ready to become a monochrome monster.

5 – Don’t be afraid to experiment – you most likely won’t nail the look on the first try, you might have to swap a red orange sweater for a ruby one to make things work.

Finding everything you need to master monochromatic is easy at Rue La La. I’ll hop from boutique to boutique looking for pieces that might pair well together, and finish by searching by color to make sure I can complete the look. And after you’ve completed your look, be sure to check their great gifting selection! Paris is a pretty picky shopper and I found him so many great things in a few of the designer boutiques.

Luxe on the Low

9th November 2017

IMG_1660We find ourselves in that fun/weird in-between where its still fall, but holiday prep is still in full swing! It’s probably one of the best times for fashion because you have the ability to mix your fall essentials without having to be too bundled yet (although we have a few cold days coming in NYC so I won’t speak too soon).    IMG_1714IMG_1738

Anyways one way to take advantage of the in between is to mix fall’s go to type, with holidays’ must have texture, and do it all in the season’s go to hue! So today I’m styling this velvet blush bomber from Macy’s and showing you how I dress it down with some of my favorite fall pieces

I’m all about velvet right now,, so naturally I was drawn to this velvet tee & velvet bomber – the bomber was surprisingly affordable despite its “luxe look” so I paired it with other glam-esque pieces to complete the look. Because of the weather, I opted to pair sneakers with tights, a kind of odd combo but I like the end result!

Macy’s is always a go to shopping spot for me, and the flagship in New York is super fun and festive this time of year. If you’re interested in getting some shopping done and maybe meeting a celebrity too, join me at Macy’s tonight for some serious fun!

Austin Mahone will be there with Fossil all to support the ASPCA (a big passion project for macy’s) It’s all going down Friday Novemver 10th at 5PM. There will be a Q&A Along with a meet and greet for select fans. Hope to see you there, you can find me on the dancing piano lol!IMG_1681

About Last Night

7th November 2017

IMG_0656IMG_0650Pump, pump pump it up!  IMG_0654 IMG_0651IMG_0655IMG_0648

Excited to kick of the holiday styling season with Nine West and their crazy fun holiday theme.IMG_0645IMG_0644

This year, their holiday campaign is centered around the idea of “about last night” where anything can happen when you’re in the right outfit #obvi. To celebrate that, I took their must have thayer pump (which comes in about 7 different styles / colors) and gave each sku a “personality” for different ways you might wear it, so here we go!IMG_0659

Prints on Parade

Heading someone conservative this season like a church party or dinner with the inlaws? Take your favorite party dress and layering over a turtle neck for an unexpected turn. To keep things fun a vibrant try playing with your prints by pairing this fun patterned pump with a dark and moody floral dress, saturated stripes or out of the box polka dots!IMG_0657 IMG_0658

A Little Bit of Leopard

Don’t underestimate a black pump, it’s not as basic as you would think. A must have black pump is a staple in every wardrobe, but this one is a little different the satin finish and fringe details give it an unexpected edge, I played off this and paired it with a leopard suit you could wear out with the girls, to a work party or pretty much anywhere you’re trying to make a statement.

Cranberry Sauce

A go to holiday hue is always that perfect cranberry red, so why not make the most of it with a monochromatic look. Since monochrome is totally trending right now, pair burgundy pants with a matching colored top and accessories. For bonus points, pair a matching belt and lip! This look is casual enough for a friends-giving dinner, ice skating & hot chocolate date or your annual secret santa exchange with the girls!

Golden Girl

If you tune into my weekly IG live s (monday nights whatsup!!) you know my go to combo this season is a sweater & midi skirt, you can dress it up with a metallic moment or down with a casual sweater & sneakers. For this look, I took a glam approach by pairing an oversized golden sweater with a matching gold pleated skirt and the thayer pump. I love a monochromic moment like the cranberry sauce look above, but here’s a little bit of a dressier way to rock it.

Purple Please

Takes these pretty purple pumps for a while and pair them with an equally fun feather purple coat. I layered it over a velvet teal dress for an extra layer of dimension – doubling up on fun textures like feathers & velvet makes this look perfect for a night out with the girls or a holiday cocktail party that you really want to make a statement at.IMG_0643IMG_0652

Nightime Routine

6th November 2017

FullSizeRender 2Today’s post is all about going to bed better & waking up refreshed. It was created in partnership with Better Homes & Gardens & Quaker® Overnight Oats

So here we go:
My nighttime routine with Quaker® Overnight Oats FullSizeRender 3  Having a great day usually starts with having a great breakfast and a great night before, two things that I’ve been guilty of not prioritizing in the past. Recently inspired by the Better Homes & Gardens 30-Night Challenge, I worked really hard these past few weeks to create more healthy habits and it has really done wonders for my quality of life and work in general!

I still have a long way to go, but I wanted to take a chance to show my nighttime routine to you so you can see some of the steps I’ve taken the night before (and sometimes the morning of) to have a more successful day.

Outfit & Meal PrepIMG_0516

So my night starts with a little outfit and meal prep. I take to my now rainbow colored closet and decide what I’m going to wear the next day, this usually depends on what I have going on – some days I work out and work from my office most of the day so I’ll just hang out in lounge wear or a comfy dress and other days I have meetings on meetings squished between meetings.

After my outfit is prepped and ready to go, I get my oats a-soaking by opening up Quaker® Overnight Oats and filling the cup with milk. This product makes it super easy to cold-steep your oats overnight and wake up ready to eat, all you have to do is pour milk to the line drawn in the cup and stick that sucker in the fridge over night.

Morning IG postFullSizeRender

Most mornings are a good time for me to post on instagram – usually before 8am does really well for me because most people wake up and look at the phones first thing. So before I go to bed, I like to plan out what I’m going to post in the morning including editing the photo and the caption before saving it to my drafts, this gives me more time to spend eating breakfast or relaxing in the AM and leaves me with less stress before I sleep.

Get CleanIMG_4236

So after I’m all prepped for the night, I wash my face & moisturize to help me wake up #flawless. Sometimes I’ll do a mask or treatment but I like to keep it simple. I also drink a giant glass of water about an hour before I go to bed – this helps me stay hydrated, does wonders for my skin but most importantly serves as a mini alarm clock because I have to wake up in the morning because my bladder is full lol!

Turn it off

One of the pro tips I got from the Better Homes & Gardens slideshow, this is my biggest issue with falling asleep at night so happy to know it’s not just me! I spend almost all day looking at my computer or phone, so my brain is just wired and not ready to go to sleep. I used to try and fall asleep watching TV because you guys know I LOVE tv especially at night, but that would keep me up for hours – especially if I was watching something spooky, which I kind of love. Now I have to be really diligent about turning everything off an hour before I go to sleep and not bringing my computer into the bedroom. I even do things like set my alarms on my both my phone and iPad outside of the bedroom, and set up my podcast before hand so that I don’t need to use my devices in the bedroom. Finally I’ll turn them on night mode so they’re on do not disturb and the screen is less bright.

For the record this is my goto routine for weekdays but sometimes on the weekends, I’ll treat myself to TV before bed – but I’ve found I perform a lot better the next day when I keep things powered down.

Hair Wrap

Now I’ll usually start a podcast, and sync up my wireless headphones. I live with my boyfriend, Paris but we have different sleep schedules – while he needs 8-10 hours, that leaves me groggy and causes me to oversleep. For me, that 5-7 range is better, so I like to use my wireless headphones to listen to podcasts or even watch TV when he’s already asleep and I’m still prepping for bed.  I only wash my hair once every three days, so I have to wrap it in a bandana or curlers when I sleep to help cut down on my morning prep process. I’ll turn my wireless headphones on super loud and wear them around my neck at first so I can wrap my hair, then I’ll turn them down and put them on my ears.

Socks on

I’ve learned I sleep so much better when the house is colder and I’m wearing socks. I think this is a tip I picked up on the internet but have really become obsessed with. Now when I don’t sleep with socks, I sleep less soundly and wake up groggy – the socks help me get a cozy, uninterrupted night sleep.

Light Mask

While I’m still listening to my podcast (I’m really into my favorite murder right now because I like kind of scary funny things) I set my iPad across the room, plug my phone in next to me and get into bed. Finally, I start my light mask! Nighttime is the best time to do a little pampering, just like my friends do at Better Homes & Garden. A few months ago I got to try out a light therapy mask which uses light to kill acne bacteria. Although it does help my skin, I’ve also found that it relaxes me and puts me to sleep faster than anything else I’ve tried, so its become a big part of my nightly routine. I close my eyes and turn on the mask, laying there in darkness plus the light from the mask with my eyes closed usually tires me out quick. The mask runs for ten min, but when its done I pop it on my bedside table and am usually asleep in 5 min or less.

A few months ago it would take me hours to fall asleep, and I would often stay up all night stressing about my todo list for the next day or upcoming projects. This process has really helped me go to bed better and wake up feeling great. Aside from having a structured routine, eating breakfast every morning has made some serious changes to my energy level and productivity. I don’t really like breakfast because I don’t eat eggs so most things are off the table, plus I’m always too lazy to make anything in the morning and often don’t have much time – including Quaker® Overnight Oats has taken away all of my “no breakfast” excuses and made it so easy for me to have a yummy breakfast every morning leading me to eat less during the day and be more productive in all aspects of my life. You can learn more about the yummy Quaker® Overnight Oats and flavors here!

I hope you guys liked learning about my nighttime routine and it helped you learn some new things to try! You can really hold yourself accountable by joining in the Better Homes and Gardens® 30-Night Challenge. Let me know if you have any tips about getting to bed better or waking up feeling awesome in the comments below!
