What Would Blair Wear

8th October 2014

IMG_8635 (1)“Spotted: C stealing B’s style and trying to pass it off as her own. Oh C, don’t you know there is only one Queen B and she doesn’t like Downtown girls going through her laundry bin. Hold on to your headband’s Upper East Siders, looks like we might have ourselves a cat fight.”

Gossip Girl ended two years ago, so sadly Blair missed so many Waldorf-worthy trends like crop tops and midi skirts! If B was still roaming the Upper East Side (or our television) today, she would most certainly be twirling away in the most dramatic of midi’s. While some rock a midi with sporty slides, exposed mid-drifts or even a graphic tee, I presume Miss Waldorf would wear it with a floral blouse and bow pumps… duhhh

B always brings the drama, so a bright red midi is just one small piece of an over-the-top outfit. Although B probably would indulge in the crop top trend, she would make it her own by investing in a subtly sheer floral blouse to tuck into her mind-blowing midi. Since pattern, trends and twirl-worthy red aren’t enough for Queen B, I think Blair would finish the look with another pop of color and a little bit of bow action with powder blue pumps.

Blair Waldorf at the Met

“They say imitation is the greatest form of flattery, but that doesn’t mean one should imitate the
Queen. Carful C, queen B doesn’t take well to copy-cats” – XOXO, Gossip Girl
Welcome back to another Blair-Waldorf inspired fashion post, where I am taking twirling tips from none other than the Queen of the Upper East Side herself. My Saturday started with a pre-museum brunch before heading uptown to strut my way through the Metropolitan Museum of Art with my mom, boyfriend and friend/photographer Claire. Although I live in New York, I rarely take time to enjoy some of the typical and almost “touristy” things the big apple has to offer. IMG_8525
I decided to take not only a style, but also a lifestyle tip for Miss Waldorf, by spending the day on the Upper Eastside exploring this beautiful museum (and killer rooftop view where these photos were taken – a must see if you are ever in NYC). Since B helped inspire my day, it was only logical that I stole her style for the day too… but I’m not sure if I would really consider it stealing since it is so close to my own 😉 I dusted off my favorite ted baker skirt and tucked it into a white Peter Pan collar blouse (p.s. if you don’t have one of these, you seriously need one – stat!).

IMG_8544We are used to Blair’s bows and have even seen her rock a tie or two, so I had to give her school-girl-style a chic update with a big Pussy Cat bow around my neck! I already owned an over-sized bow neck tie (are you surprised?) but I wanted a silky/satin one to match the material of my skirt. I took this giant black ribbon from my tiny NYC craft closet (which is sadly just a bedazzled box… boo) and used double stick tape to “hem” the edges before tying it around my neck and slipping it under the collar. If you choose to DIY or buy (for just $15) a bow like this can really amp up a basic white blouse and Blair-ify your wardrobe.

I’m a firm believer in pattern mixing, if you do it right (and in moderation) you can really make it work with any outfit. When in doubt, just add leopard. It’s more of a neutral than a pattern anyway, and pairs perfectly with almost every other print! I even wore it with Zebra once to really switch things up.

There are so many worlds to live (and dress by) that I have incorporated into my personal style bible over the years, but above all there was one 5 letter acronym that has taken a driving force in my fashion inspo:
WWBWW – What Would Blair Waldorf Wear
P.S. keep reading for a fun give away at th end of this post

Since she is also no stranger to stripes, bows or preppy-knee highs, I combined all three of these blair-approved pieces with my signature red lip to create this classic, BW look with a CMC twist :)blair waldorf bow headband blair waldorf fashion blair waldorf outfits gossip girl outfits blair waldorf stripes blair waldorf fashion style blair waldorf stripe outfit blair waldorf trench blair waldorf inspired fashion blair waldorf wear what would blair waldorf wearIt’s been a while, but this week I’m bringing Blair (and her headbands) back to the blog by featuring three Blair-esque looks to get you inspired by the Queen B! Weekend Twirl

6th January 2014

It’s no secret I love twirl-worthy tulle (don’t believe me, check out the highlights here), and since this season calls for tartans & flannel, I paired plaid with my favorite skirt for tulle with a twist.

Shirt: Old Navy (obsessed with this one) // Snood: Michael Kors (Old, Similar: onetwo [cashmere on sale, yes please!], and three) //  Sweater: : Forever 21 // Pumps: Coach // Bag: Vintage via the Melrose District in AZ (Love this one) // Sunnies: Karen Walker (also here) // Skirt: H&M (old, love this one) // Headband: Vintage, similar // Ring: Betsey Johnson (old, similar here) // Jewels: J.crew, Kate Spade
Confession: I’m addicted to teen TV; The Vampire Diaries, Awkward, Teen Wolf …  I don’t care how awful & cheesy it may be, you name it I watch it! So although I love December I hate saying goodbye to my embarrassing bunch of shows during the holiday hiatus. To fill the void, I end up re-watching some of my cancelled favorites all month long, and December 2013 was all about GG … resulting in a re-ignited obsession with Blair Waldorf & her signature headbands!
P.S. I love that the west village is still
dripping in holiday decor (notice the tree behind me?).
I don’t wish we kept it up all year long – then it wouldn’t be special,
but I like to keep a little bit of cheer until mid January!

blair flair w// uptown tulips

11th December 2012

today’s post is a special treat: i’m teaming up with the fabulous bree of uptown tulips for a crazy amazing collaboration! together we’re delivering three seasonal style spotlight post style stalking some of our favorite fashionistas to create hot holiday looks, starting with Queen B!

i love this blair outfit, it just screams timeless glamour: her elegant accessories are classic princess pieces while the bold color choice keep the look young && fresh.
For my take, I attempted to channel blair’s regal whimsy while keeping it courtney.

nothing screams holiday like pink sparkles, except maybe a big giant bow! and luckily, this look has both! i used a bit of layering to bring the sparkle to this bow-tastic dress.

I finished with sea foam shoes && girlie pearls! the shoe’s pop of pastel is very blair, plus it gives me a double dose of bows!

top: j.crew (try this one) // dress: vintage // necklace: francescas // shoes: kate spade // ring: kate spade // earrings: kate spade // fishnets: zara // arm party: sequin // j.crew (outlet) // kate spade // sequin // kate spade idioms // kate spade // j.crew // michael kors
As a guest blogger for Courtney today (eek!), I’ll start by introducing myself! I am Bree and am the founder and blogger behing Uptown Tulips. After obsessing over Courtney’s Style Spotlight feature, I was inspired to work with her on a few look inspired by our favorite icons. The first one, representing possibly my style icon and the envy of New York, Blair Waldorf, ladies and gents. As the “it girl” of the Upper East Side, Blair knows a thing or two about Christmas balls and fancy parties. I found this little number in a vintage store a few years ago. The cut defies everything that is traditional, straying from Blair’s classic side. Besides from the festive shade of green, this dress also A little glitter goes a long way. A lot of glitter goes way farther! The peacoat is a recent purchase and as soon as I got it, I knew it would end up in this post! After all, outerwear is Blair’s favorite accessory.
14 days until Christmas! Happy Holidays!
xoxo Bree

well that’s all for today’s holiday collab! make sure to tune in next week for another tuesday holiday team up featuring zooey deschanel && make sure to follow the fabulous bree at uptown tulips to stay keep up with her fantastic style. until next time…
