Every girl needs a little red stripey coat, and red bow shoes to match 😉

Wednesday Night I attended a mini runway at Saks 5th Avenue featuring Polo by Ralph Lauren’s new Winter/Holiday collection (can you believe we are there already? what happened to Fall?) hosted by Elle Mag! I brought my favorite wedding photographer Claire Eliza as my date (p.s. she now does blog photos too) oh and my boyfriend/paparazzi came too 😉 to snap my picture… jk Paris you know I love you!

I don’t consider myself particularly preppy, or edgy, or cool… I guess my style doesn’t really fit into a category because it’s constantly changing. But I do try and dip my toes heels into different trends. This stripey coat was a little outside my normal wardrobe window (it’s navy, and now the only navy thing I own… navy is one of those colors I used to despise, just like brown, but I am learning to love it :) ).

Anyways, I thought a preppy, stripey coat would fit right in at the Polo show, but I was actually pleasantly surprised that it was some-what of a lone wolf at the presentation. Basically, the polo you know has evolved into something new, modern, effortless and chic. It was fun to see first hand how this brand has transformed under it’s new creative director. Since I work for Coach, a company that is on the same transformative path, I really appreciate the new direction Polo Ralph Lauren is taking – pops of neon and funky hats sprinkled the runway paired with 90’s floral, nonchalant plaid maxi’s, the ultimate LBD’s and of course, the classic Polo RL structured coats we know and love.

This military inspired coat (jacket version here) was definitely one of my favorite piece of the night, I was crazy about the contrasting color pop in the collar mixed with the historic shape and military-esque details – It actually reminded me of the Originals on the CW in the best way, please tell me I’m not the only one who watches trashy teen television…. please!

The Striped Crop Top

24th July 2014

I know I have been over dosing on stripes lately, and that you are probably so sick of it! I went to an event earlier this week and met a PR pro that I had been corresponding with for a few weeks now via email … the first thing she said to me was “you’re not wearing stripes?!”. Then I knew the obsession had maybe gotten a wee bit out of control. I promise I’ll try and scale back the stripes, especially this striped crop top, but I can’t say goodbye to them entirely since they are quickly become one of my signatures (in addition to my red lip of course).

Anyways before I start switching out my stripes for other patterns, I’m determined to get you all abroad the striped crop top train by sharing
10 ways to wear a striped crop top!

The obsession started with my long sleeve cropped top, but I shortly switched to a more summer-friendly version as the season changed… either where way you slice it there’s a whole lot of stripes going on.

Until then, stay stripey 😉 …. & cue toddler smile

Bumble Bee

22nd July 2014

I’ve been wearing black & white stripes non-stop lately, seriously, non-stop. There are all these rules about black & white stripes: horizontal ones make you look chubs, don’t wear them with orange or yellow, blah, blah blah — well today I’m breaking those rules, because life is so much better when you dress outside the lines.

Instead of fearing the color combo, I’m embracing it and going full on bumble bee! Picking up this Topshop midi skirt from Nordies was a no-brainer, but when I had to find something to pair it with I was stumped. Everything I own is black & white or another crazy bright color, two choices to generally avoid when pairing with another bold piece… typical. But since two statements are always better than one, and rules are meant to be broken (I live for white after labor day, it’s my favorite rule to break) I decided to pair the two for a double-whammy of an outfit … Boo yah!!
Can the Midi trend never end? pretty puh-lease! I thought I would loathe this length on me because of my legs, or lack there of (short girl problems) but have completely fallen in love! A midi is so flattering, classic and fun – plus it looks killer with a crop top. Let’s be honest people, I look exactly like Betty Draper (ha!). Midi’s also saved me last winter, when I was determined to wear full red midi to fashion week despite the freezing temperatures… Always reasonable. Don’t worry, I wore my sweat pants under the skirt and no one even noticed (who are we kidding, it’s me … all I do is twirl, literally everyone noticed.) see it here!
I gotta love a crop top + midi combo! It allows me to indulge in the cropped trend without showing too much skin or forcing me to stop eating macrons… and ice cream… and cake, and pistachios (okay that one is kind of healthy unless you eat the whole bag … guilty) … and more ice cream … ice cream and ice cream… hungry yet? Anyways, It helps hide the pooch (which is making an appearance in the image above) and since I can’t stop eating and my only source of cardio (shopping) has been done on line as of late, you will probably only see me in the high-waist-crop-top situation.
I’ve been on a bit of a yellow kick lately — I blame it on my lemon obsession, so this skirt fit the bill (I promise it’s more yellow in real life than it photographs). I have also been craving this citrus kate spade number all season long (despite already owning last year’s version in blue… whoops!). Speaking of blue, I can’t wait to wear my new midi with bright colors (yes I’m a rule breaker) like neon pink, kelly green and all sorts of blues: baby blue, royal and maybe even some mint!
P.S. This post is part of a two part collab with one of my favorite west village based instagrams @thejanestreet — we had such a blast shooting & meeting up with her (she’s such a sweetheart!!!). We snapped these outside The Spotted Pig, but be sure to follow along for pretty village snaps and more images from our collaboration! Also swing by my insta & follow along to join the party! See you there! XX
Oh and I’m wearing….

Accidentally Audrey

9th July 2014

Today’s look was accidentally Audrey-Esque. I donned black and white stripes (per usual) and a red lip (of course) and spent a good 30 minutes on my hair (unheard of for this bun-loving-bedhead) before walking my thirty minute morning commute through the sauna that is currently New York City. Upon arriving to my office, I glanced in the mirror to see that my well orchestrated locks had somehow been magically replaced with a wild, frizzy fro — thanks New York. I didn’t panic,  but quickly tossed up my mess of a mane into a undone bun with bird’s-nest inspired tendencies. After using up my to “emergency” bobbies, I resulted to a few paperclips that hopefully no one will notice, or miss from the office viola … Accidentally Audrey.

The big shades and bow ring were the final touches, plus my low block heel sandals (that I simply wore because they are one of the few pairs I can do a whole twelve hour day in) were subtle nods to the film princess … I hope Miss Hepburn would approve

This look is actually surprisingly simple for me and I honestly wasn’t planning on posting it (I usually like to try and teach something in my outfits posts like “if you have a serious stripe obsession [hands up] here’s how to wear a striped skirt with a striped top” or “are you afraid of pencil skirts? me too but let’s conquer our fear together with this flattering piece“). But I had some time to kill between work and this amazing Capwell & Co event I attended last night, so naturally we had to fill it with a highline photoshoot, because what else could Paris and I possibly do with a free hour in NYC.
After meeting up with blogger babe Daisy O (who had borrowed these babies for the 4th) I switched into some Capwell & Co bracelets for the event. Oh, this event (sigh)….  it was one of the most beautiful blogger gatherings I have ever been honored to attend! Our hostesses with the mostess, Jessica planned a brilliant rooftop soiree held at the Maritime Hotel. I shortly met up with more blogger gal pals Elana and Melanie. Mel somehow convinced me to sip an Amaretto Cran with her, although I am strictly a “i’ll have half of a martini” kind of gal … so if I sound a bit off in this post or make some dramatic grammar error, blame Mel & the Amaretto (Just kidding … well kind of).

Anyways, we had a ball, stuffed our faces and left blinged out in capwell & co .. you know usual blogger business. Check out more of the fun on instagram by searching #capwellatsunset  & shop my Capwell favorites here:

What do you think of Capwell & Co? Are you a brand fan or just learning about it now? I love discovering new jewelry companies and have quickly caught the Capwell & Co fever… so I’m sure this won’t be the last you’ll see from this beautiful brand. XO

Bright Striped

7th July 2014

So I know I declared this the summer of all white, but that doesn’t mean I’m giving up my go-to black and white stripes for the season! So when the opportunity presented itself to combine color with my favorite pattern, I simply could resist.

I saw this skirt at Asos and knew I immediately fell in love with the combination of color and pattern play, but was hesitant about the silhouette. I am usually a fit and flare or full skirt kind of gal and rarely ever slip into a tight, pencil-like skirt, but made an exception for this striped beaut.

The skirt ended up being surprisingly comfy and versatile, and I wasn’t as awkward in it as I thought — I guess sometimes it pays off to step outside of your comfort zone. The fabric was super soft and the curved hem made this shape more flattering. As a kind-of-curvy-girl I was hesitant about wearing a tight horizontal striped skirt since this pattern is usually so unforgiving, but the high-low-curved-hem helps create the illusion of leg length while keeping you covered, and more importantly, comfortable. I’ve worn this skirt to the office with a bright chiffon top or even a playful peplum and can tone it down with a graphic tee, or a cropped tank and flat sandals! I also love the way Brighton Keller wore the same skirt with an off the shoulder black crop and coordinating bright bag for that extra pop!
I paired it with a striped crop top (of course) to keep the pattern play going and added bold b&w accessories, including my new favorite Nila Anthony Lego Clutch! I have had a life-long love for Legos, I’m not exactly sure why. My mom, who is an out-of-the-box interior designer, always dreamed of doing a Lego back splash in a kitchen, so I think they kind of remind me of her! So when Chanel came out with their Lego collection a few season back, I immediately feel in love with their child-inspired creations! Since Chanel is a wee bit out of my price range, I decided to admire from afar – until this Clutch came into my life and rocked my world. Like Chanel, it plays on the Lego-like aspects to create a cool, statement clutch, but doesn’t include the logo so you know it’s not a wannabe, just it’s own fun fashion moment.

P.S. What are you guys thoughts about Shoe Dazzle? I know I am really late to the party but was hesitent to sign up for something that charged me every month. These shoes convinced me to take the plunge but I got a little turned off when I realized they don’t offer free returns, just free exchanges and they actually charge you a $5 restocking fee — on a $40 pair of shoes, come on! Anyways, cancelled my membership and thinking of switching to Just Fab. Sound off – what have your experiences been like?

Stripey Stroll

16th June 2014

Okay, so there might be a chance that my stripe obsession is a wee bit out of control … and maybe this post is the proof. Today Waffles and I stole 5th avenue in non-stop stripes

Top: Zara Stripe Crop Top (similar here or here for under $10) (another version here)
Shoes: Keds Rally Cork Sneakers c/o (also in whiteorange or fun version here)
Bag: Moschino via My Sisters Closet – shop online for discounted designer resale
Sunnies: Karen Walker Super Duper Giant Tortoise Sunglasses
Headband: Coach Ponytail Scarf // love this stripe one (surprise, surprise)
Bracelet: Style This Life gold tassel bracelet c/o I’m obsessed
Bangle: Kate Spade Play Hooky Bangle

Normally, this is the part of the post where I would create some clever explanation for why I am wearing stripes for the thousandth time … but I’m refusing to apologize and instead blaming in all on my sever case of the stripes!

I think doubling up on your favorite pattern like I did here is a super fun and playful way to make an outfit-impact! The crop top & high-waist skirt combo show just enough skin to break up the pattern without ruining the print play. I added even more prints in neutral tones by adding a leopard ponytail scarf and my new favorite Keds Rally Cork Sneakers in polka dot! The use of tan blends with my skin tone to make these printed pops really neutral and help prevent the look from getting to pattern-crazed… I also love that they match my little french man as well, after all, he is the best friend and accessory a girl could have :]

Speaking of Keds their Brave Life Project will award up to fifty girls between the ages of 18 -24 a $1,000 grant to attend Keds’ Brave Life Summit in NYC this August!!! If you haven’t heard of the Brave Life Project, you are seriously missing out, its a great organization that helps girls be brave enough to follow their dreams! Enter here for your chance tor attend the Brave Life Summit – good luck!!!

A Carrie Moment

12th June 2014

It’s no secret that I’m obsessed with Carrie Bradshaw – she will always be one of my favorite TV fashionistas (along with Blair Waldorf). Carrie changed fashion for everyone and I look to her style almost everyday for inspiration. Every time I twirl through NYC in tulle I think of CB! Today was no different, so I had to share this very, Carrie moment filled with stripes, tulle and of course, stilettos.

Top: Zara Stripe Crop Top (similar here or here for under $10) (another version here)
Shoes: Dolce Vita Pamona Pump with Leopard – get 20% off use SAVE
Skirt: H&M Tulle Skirt (old) – I love this BCBG one for $88 + 25% use, FRIENDS
I am also really loving this Top Shop Tulle Midi skirt for $100
Earrings: XO Earrings Urban Outfitters (silver here) – dying for this No. 5 earring here
Necklace: Jennifer Rex Leo Necklace c/o
I think a tulle skirt is a closet must have for any stylish city gal – it’s so functional and works year around! I pair mine with booties and cashmere in the fall, tights and turtlenecks for winter and crop tops for those warmer months! Skirts with a thick waist band like this one, help your tummy look super tiny and the midi length looks great on everyone… even shorties like me :]
P.S. Did I mention that Lord & Taylor is having their friends & family sale? 25% off almost everything including this darling tulle skirt with a bow! Be sure to check it out

Summer Statements

3rd June 2014

It’s official summer – but I’m not yet wardrobe ready, uh-oh!
So today we’re talking summer statements and showcasing a few ways to make a big splash with your seasonal style!
A Statement Shade
Summer is a fun, and playful season where anything goes! Now’s the time to test out those giant cat-eye frames – they’ll protect you from the sun while serving as the perfect accessory to spruce up a simple white dress! I double dog dare you to pick a statement shade in a powerful color for two-times the impact! If you’re up for the challenge, just remember to tone down the rest of the look by wearing neutrals and simple silhouettes so you don’t over do it!
Or you can create your own custom Diamond wedding ring via Anjolee, swoon!
A Statement Skirt
Just like Spring, Midi Skirts are a Summer must! They look fab, work for day or night and help keep you cool in the summer heat. And since flamingos are having a major moment this season (what took us so long), I don’t see any reason not to show off your stems in a flamingo printed skirt.
Shop the Look:
A Statement Print
Big, bold prints work great for summer. Invest in a strikingly printed maxi dress to pair with neutral sandals and matching bag. The end result will be effortlessly chic but still fashion forward and help you make a big summer statement!
A Statement Color
I have never felt the laziness of summer until I moved to NYC. Somedays, it’s just too dang hot. I’m from Arizona, so I know heat – but the shorting New York humidity is a whole different animal that drives me bananas! Somedays I just want to throw on a simple skirt or dress and call it a day – that’s when a statement color can really come in handy. Instead of reaching for black or white on those too-hot-to-care days, pull on a pink wrap dress, bright blue maxi or orange skirt! These brights will help make a cool summer statement and help hide the fact that you’re trying not to melt into a colorful puddle.

The Skort Suit

2nd June 2014

This summer, I’m skirting, no skorting the rules! It’s far to hot for a full suit, so I switched things up with a skorted suit. If that wasn’t enough, I’m also adding a pop of pink to brighten everything up!

Skort: c/o Lulusa summer must have – also loving this green one
Top: Asos sleeveless button up – a great basic – actually prefer this revolve one!
I am also loving the idea of a button up with a built in bow like this Asos one
Blazer: Thrifted – loving this Alice & Olivia one, also comes in white!
Bow: Asos (it actually came with a top) similar here and here or in peach here!
Shoes: Joe Fresh Shoes (On Sale in Store) // Similar round toe on sale here
Purse: Coach Bleeker Pinnacle Crossbody in Painted Snake – obsessed with this one
Last summer I was all about the origami skort – it’s just such an easy option, especially for NYC heat! I picked up the skort last summer in three colors and couldn’t wait to pull it out again. Zara was the first to mass market the skort, but so many other retailers and have started selling similar styles in bright colors and for such a steal – so I was ticked pink when Lulus sent me this neon skort! I actually prefer the Lulus design to the Zara one because it’s a little more fitted and high waisted! I have to pin my Zara skort even in the smallest size to make it fit right, but the Lulus one for a lower price fits perfectly and right along my waist so i can tuck in tops with ease. Let’s just say I’m in love and might have to pick up the mint green option as well, swoon!
What do you think of the skort trend from last year? Is it a hit or miss?

Non-Stop Stripes

30th May 2014

I’m feeling stripey today by twirling through the meatpacking district in the pattern I just cannot stop wearing (or buying) – black and white stripes!

Sooo what do you think of my new bag – lies! It’s not new, as some of you may know its’s my mom’s from the 80s – but it’s mine now and looks brand spankin’ new thanks to a little TLC – where the C strands for cleaning! Although I really liked this bag’s “well-loved” look and thought the wear and tear added to the overall appeal, it’s soooo much nicer to have a clean, flawless, feels-like-new leather bag. As someone who has worked for many a handbag company in her day (Kate Spade, Coach), I was beyond impressed with Leather Honey’s amazing leather cleaner and conditioner – it took years off my Coach Willis without damaging the leather all while maintaining the original quality. I recommend leaving the cleanser on overnight for best results, removing the excess and following up with conditioner the next morning – doing so will help give your well loved leather piece a swanky makeover!

Shoes: Joe Fresh Shoes (On Sale in Store) // Similar round toe on sale here
Top: Basic scoop neck red/orange l/s tee from J.crew (old)
Scarf: Vintage find – absolutely loving this pink & orange one
Bag: Coach Willis old a classic! but they still sell an updated version here
As soon as I saw this asos stripe skirt I knew I had to have it – I felt the same way about these darling striped pointed toe flats so I knew I had to double up on B&W stripes by pairing them together! I was never a big fan of the pointed toe (my feet are too cubby) especially in a flat – but my new go-to shoe has converted me to a pointed-toe believer! I picked them up in black & white stripe on sale at Joe Fresh as well as in solid black patent because I knew I would seriously regret leaving them behind!
P.S. Check out my quirky new phone case, I’m obsessed … Banana phone! What do you think, love it or leave it? (please say love it!)
I was recently featured on fashion bomb daily – yay! There was some really nice (and some not so nice) comments but someone said what my Boyfriend, Paris has been saying for ages – “I wish she didn’t wear sunglasses in every picture”. As a blogger, I have been hiding behind my sunnies lately – it’s just easier but as a reader, I can see why it’s a bit of a turn-off. I try to be as real, honest and down-to-earth as possible on my blog because my readers are so important to me and I want to give them nothing but the best :] as a result I am going to try my best to take off the Karen Walkers every once and a while … here goes nothing! As always I appreciate your constructive criticisms and support – I would love to hear any other suggestions you may have a always try to implement them when possible!
