The Striped Crop Top

24th July 2014

I know I have been over dosing on stripes lately, and that you are probably so sick of it! I went to an event earlier this week and met a PR pro that I had been corresponding with for a few weeks now via email … the first thing she said to me was “you’re not wearing stripes?!”. Then I knew the obsession had maybe gotten a wee bit out of control. I promise I’ll try and scale back the stripes, especially this striped crop top, but I can’t say goodbye to them entirely since they are quickly become one of my signatures (in addition to my red lip of course).

Anyways before I start switching out my stripes for other patterns, I’m determined to get you all abroad the striped crop top train by sharing
10 ways to wear a striped crop top!

The obsession started with my long sleeve cropped top, but I shortly switched to a more summer-friendly version as the season changed… either where way you slice it there’s a whole lot of stripes going on.

Lemon Drop

9th June 2014

I’ve been keeping it rather casual for the weekend lately, and this weekend was no exception! Waffles and I wandered about wearing my sum mer go-to’s while, running errands, testing out my new bucket bag and stopping to play with other Frenchies. The West Village is crawling with these little bug eyed monsters and Waffles is loving it, a little baby french even moved in across the street… named Mr. Smith – too cute!

 MY OOTD:
Top: Asos Black Off The Shoulder Crop Top (or switch it up here)
Shirt (worn around the waist): J.crew French Print Pop-Over – so obsessed!
Skirt: Asos Cotton White Midi Skirt (Love this one on sale)
Shoes: Kate Spade for Keds Lemon Print Pointer White Ked Sneakers (more here)
Bag: Old Navy White Drawstring Leather Bucket Bag – It’s a steal!
Only $32 in white or $28 + 15% off in navy or saddle – use ONSAVENOW
Ring:  Gold hexagon ring c/o Nikibi
Crop tops & Midi Skirts have become my summer wardrobe, they are just so functional for the City Heat. And I’ve said it before and will say it again – the best way to wear a crop top without showing too much trend or feeling self conscious is with a midi skirt … no six pack required! Plus, added soothing around the waist gives it that added synch to really slim your waist all while protecting your white skirt from getting too dirty! Speaking of skirts, I think a midi cotton skirt can pair perfectly with darling keds for a casual, weekend look, and I’ve been living in my lemon printed pointer ones from the Kate Spade collab, aren’t they the cutest? I’m obsessed with the pointed toe and fresh lemon print, but ended up going a half size up as a result. You also might remember these from my 10 pieces 100 outfits spring investment post, if you need a little lemony-referesher, pop by the post!
Oh and waffles being the chubby monkey he is he can only walk a few blocks in the heat before he lays down and becomes immobile… so we always end up like this.
So When you see frenchies being toted around by their owners in the city it isn’t because they are pampering their pooch – it’s because their lazy, stubborn dog is too much of a diva to walk ;] #thisismylife

Strawberry Bubblegum

16th May 2014

I wore this look last night, when I stepped out to BucketFeet’s pop up shop in Soho. BucketFeet is a super cool, unique show concept – all the shoes are playfully patterned and designed by different artists, each with their own unique style. Mine are designed by Miami based artist, Bad Panda, who drew inspiration from his home town to create my kicks.

 My OOTD:
Top: Zara striped crop top (similar here, love this one)
Skirt: Vintage pencil skirt (long live the 80s) that I altered (similar)
Necklace: Zara Choker (cheaper here, ways to wear it here)
I probably need to stop wearing this top … but I can’t! Are you guys sick of it yet? It’s one of the only crop tops I own and I just can’t get enough of this trend #sorrynotsorry. Plus I never say no to black & white stripes annndd I love that it’s long sleeve so it feels a little more conservative (well as conservative as you can get for a crop top).
Before you go – here’s a few iPhone highlights from before & during last nights at Bucketfeet’s new pop up shop in Soho:
Paris & I had a blast in our new shoes. The pop up only lasts 90 days, so run, don’t walk to 108 wooster street to pick up a pair… or if you miss it, you can always order online :] Plus receive 10% off all bucket feet use the code COLORME10

Stripes & Stuff

14th April 2014

We are in the full swing of Spring (finally) and NYC is just beautiful! I want to wear crop tops & floral every single day, and today I did just that!

My OOTD:
Skirt: Ted Baker Full Floral Skirt – also here
Top: Striped Zara Crop Top (similar) – last seen here
Bag: Francescas Harper Mini Crossbody c/o – Also in black (under $25)
Sunnies: Karen Walker Super Duper Sunnies – also love these Tory Burch ones
Heels: Zara Powder Blue Court Shoe Bow Tie Pumps
Jewels: Taylor Morgan Bracelet // Jennifer Rex Initial Necklace
Jewels: Vintage Elephant Earrings – similar here
Although I was crazy enough to wear my crop tops during the frigid NYC Winter (remember when I paired with a midi skirt for NYFW? hey, at least it was a long sleeved one!), showing some skin is one of my favorite spring things! I have been dying to wear this full floral skirt since I picked it up in February, but couldn’t bring myself to pair it with black tights – I thought it desired better. But with this glorious spring weather, I thought it was only fitting to twirl through the tree-lined streets of the West Village in this Ted Baker floral number.
What do you love most about Spring?
XO Courtney
