So today’s post is kind of fun because I’m wearing something that might surprise you!I’m not sure if you know this but I am basically style schizophrenic… wait, don’t freak out! It just means I have a lot of different styles that I like to try and test out. Usually you’ll catch me wearing something in true Courtney fashion – a twirl worthy skirt, red lip, lots of tulle, glitter and probably a bow or two (don’t believe me, click those links to see some examples…. but then come back cause you’ll want to hear the rest of my fashion diagnosis…. don’t worry, i’ll wait…
Oh, Awesome you’re back – I missed you – now back to my disorder). But sometimes I do like this switch things up my channeling my alter egos, Cool-Girl-Courtney, Corporate-Courtney, Downtown-Vibes-Courtney and even Sporty Courty, Style schizo is something you have to take very seriously. Guys, it’s like a really serious disorder and stuff… But don’t worry, although there is no known cure, there is treatment – retail therapy and lots of it.One good thing about my disorder is that it doesn’t effect my lipstick obsession, I still finished this look of with bold black accents and my Fall-go-to Oxblood Lip!
So obviously, boho/fringy yet still twirl-worthy-Courtney was out with my Credit Card one day and went rouge with floppy fedoras, knee high boots and a little bit of fringe; but I’m not mad at her this fringe sweater from Sugar Boutique (one of my favorite new shopping finds) is one of the comfiest and coziest new closet additions so I never want to take it off … or stop dancing in it even long enough to snap a photo… Twirl, boho-alter-ego-courtney, Twirl! If you want to join the party just shop the below and let’s get to twirlin’
With fall pastels in full bloom this season, the necessary additions of bits of blush to my wardrobe was a no brainer. But I also took the trend one step further by investing in pops of floral done in just the right way for Fall! So today I double up on my new floral wear by pairing two twirl-worthy pieces together, because let’s be honest, I don’t know how not to pattern mix… it’s kind of my thing 😉
I fell in love with this Milly skirt and first sight. Black tulle with pops of pink & floral print? uhm, SOLD ! (Where is the “praise the lord” emoji when you need it?). These pretty petal pumps had a similar “omg I need these like yesterday” effect on me when I saw them at piperlime. I don’t buy many shoes because I currently have to store them in my kicthen (#NYprobs) so when I do swipe my card for something south of my ankles, I make sure they are show stoppers but also versatile!
If you’re thinking of trying florals or pastels for fall (or both) just add black! Toning down pastel hues with a black sweater, or leather leggings is the perfect way to pull a Spring color straight into Fall. The same can be said of a floral skirt, just look for one with a black base (like mine) or add black tights and a black coat to one you already own! Oh and since one floral skirt is never enough, here are a few of my favorite options that need to make their way to my closet right about now.
Don’t let my serious kate spade collection or my obsessive-like-attachment to my Ted Baker skirt fool you, although these designs hold a crazy special place in my heart (and closet … and wallet), they don’t take the cake for the coveted place of my #1 fashion house… that spot is saved for the one and only Diane Von Furstenberg. DVF is not only my absolute favorite designer, but more importantly my favorite person in the entire fashion industry. I am just simply obsessed with all things DVF and today I’ll tell you why.
The only word epic enough to define Diane is Icon, just like her go-to silhouette … the wrap dress. In my personal opinion she is the most influential women, designer, philanthropist, leader, business women, (stop me, because I could go on forever), trendsetter, stylist and all around red-lip-wearing superwoman around today. Not only did she define a generation and according to some, a gender-revolution with the introduction of her wrap dress all while looking super fabulous, but she transformed the meatpacking district in NY all while staying on top of the fashion industry with a heart of gold. With my serious girl crush on all the DVF, it was about time I got me a wrap dress and I’m more obsessed then I ever thought I could be. Any dress that shows off my smallest point while playing with pattern and having pockets its a clear winner in my <s>book</s> closet, plus the twirl-worthy & timeless nature of the dress makes it a serious investment piece you can keep until the end of time … and I intend to do just that 😉
DVF Wrap Dresses are perfect for work with a classy pump and a cardigan or weekend wear with a cool leather jacket and booties. One of my favorite features is the added fabric at the bust area, which lets you cover up for more conservative occasions or show a little skin if you’re stepping out for a night on the town. For these photos I set mine between the two, to get the deep v effect without being too revealing. Plus then I synced my waist like crazy before wrapping the dress to draw the eye to my smallest point!DVF Wrap Amelia Dress (also love this one) || Cherry Bomb Lipstick Nine West Leopard Calf Hair Heels || Coach Window Pane Clutch
I decided to DVF-up just in time, because last week the brands new reality/Courtney-dream-show, House of DVF premiered on E, adding a serious dash of glam to my usually depression filled Sunday nights. If you missed out, get caught up here & tune in this sunday at 10/9 C – I would love to hear what you think!
It’s no secret I am currently suffering from a bit of a blush obsession, and today I’m continuing the color crazy with a little pastel pink & an appearance from Waffles
I am so over the moon about pastels for Fall, it’s seriously the <b>best trend ever</b> and this blush color is at the top of my list for must-have (and must wear) hues. I’m gonna tell you a secret: <i>I kind of have an addictive personality</i> (insert monkey covering eyes emoji right about here) which is why I always paint my nails powder blue, listen to the same songs on replay (right now it’s steal my girl by One D… don’t judge me), have a kitchen full of shoes (yes, kitchen) and can’t stop eating donuts! When I find something I like, like the manly burger from Unami, I keep coming back until I’m sick of it and never want to eat one again. The same can apply to my clothing. I rocked the crap out of my long sleeve striped crop top last spring and have been wearing this leather skirt and this blush sweater on replay like it’s nobody’s business.I’ve never been one of the girls who wears something only once, in fact if you follow along you’ll notice that it’s quite the opposite. But I see no shame in wear, and rewearing as long as you give it a different twist each time. Pairing the cropped sweater with a leather mini skirt is perfect for those warmer fall days or weekend wear. I have worn versions of this look to the office with black tights and booties or rocked this outfit as is for weekend shopping in my neighborhood!
Hello Dolls! I hope you all had a wonderful halloween weekend full of fun and most importantly teeth-rotting candy (uhm, yum!). In addition to halloween festivities, I attended a masquerade ball last thursday with my boy & a few blogger babes!Sadly, I have never attended a ball before so of course I took this opportunity to go all out. I rented a gown, spent a day at the show room trying on dresses, tested my make-up the day before and convinced Paris to wear a velvet suit! I basically treated it like prom, without the braces, poorly applied lashes, acrylic nails and monster of a Betsy Johnson prom dress – and I know what you’re thinking and the answer is yes, my prom did take place in a 80’s brat pack movie.Halloween is one of my favorite holidays – any opportunity to eat candy and wear a costume is a good day in my book – so I had to start the weekend off with a bang, well Ball! Elena and Lex dressed up before heading to the monster ball, Lex even took things a step further by coming in her halloween makeup, she’s crazy and I love it! The ball was a mix of things, since the dress code said “gowns” most followed our lead with the full length fancies, but some went in a Lexicon-Of-Style-direction with halloween inspired looks and makeup. The ball wasn’t all I did over the holiday weekend, on Friday I met up with Elena again to attend a halloween party for Paris’s work, but it turned into spending the night making our costumes (Paris and I were “French Kiss” and Waffles was a giant box of French Fries, see it here) before walking around people watching. Once we made it to the party, we had already had too much fun scanning the costumes downtown that we honestly stood in line for about five min before turning around and b-lining for dessert, whoops! Anyways, I hope everyone else had a wonderful holiday weekend!!
When Fall finally arrives, so many are quick to bundle up in Black… but not me 😉 Today I’m staying true to my name and cozing up in the cutest oversized Fall coat that just happens to come in one of my favorite colors – ruby red.
I’ve been searching for the perfect red coat for a few years with no success, but I have been pretty picky. It had to be crazy warm, come in Ruby Woo Red (to match my favorite lip color of course) and have really awesome pockets… Oh yeahhhh, if you didn’t know this yet, I have a thing for pockets! Most importantly, I needed a shape that was kind of oversized, and downtown-cool. I knew having a big bright coat would be enough of a statement and didn’t wanna over-do-it with something too fussy, I wanted to keep it simple yet chic!
This Yoana Baraschi coat fit the bill! Not only did it check all of my boxes, but it added a new down-town vibe to my wardrobe. It’s no secret that I am more of a tulle and polka dots kind of girl, but I sometimes like to switch things up by channeling a cooler alter ego (since we all know I’m the furthest thing from cool in real life). This oversized redcoat lets me do just that by pairing it with a little bit of leather or distressed boyfriend jeans!
I really love the new dimension this coat brings to my wardrobe, and as a little added bonus it’s so crazy versatile. It’s only been mine for a week and I’ve already rocked it twice in two totally different ways… I see a serious coat friendship in our future. For the first look, I added some edge to this old graphic sweater and really played up the black & red combo. A leather skirt, leopard belt and black chelsea booties with a little bit of a heel were the finishing touch to walking the line between flirty & edgy.
This might be the first, but certainly won’t be the last time I say the following fact this season: Blush is the new BlackI’m totally obsessed with pastels for Fall – powder blue hues, little bits a lilac, and even mint greens mixed with darker olives but my favorite color of the bunch has to be blush. One of my first (and favorite) purchases of the season was this cropped blush sweater. Obsessed isn’t a strong enough word – It’s the perfect amount of slouch & structure plus it’s crazy comfortable. The crop is just right, so I wear it with high waisted skirts or can tuck it into a high waisted trouser; I have even layered a long graphic tank or a white button up blouse underneath for a 90’s vibe. Most importantly it’s well made and extremely versatile. After owning this blush beaut for only a week, I had to go back for more cauuttte colors #dontjudgeme
I wanted to have a major pastel moment, so I rounded out my blush crush with a matching tulle midi ! If you have yet to invest in a twirl worthy tulle skirt what the heck are you waiting for 😉 But seriously, it is by far one of my favorite pieces in my closet, second only to the powder blue Zara pumps I paired it with. I didn’t plan too, but added some sunnies along the way when I stopped into Cynthia Rowley in the West Village before strutting my stuff down to Soho (that’s what’s in the bag). They were an unexpected splurge but hey, they matched my outfits so I kind of had to swipe my card … whooopps, sorry bank account!
Before you go I have to share a secret… I found these crazy cute tulle skirts in so many colors for $34 each… and I may have gone a little bit crazy! How cute would they be with the matching cropped sweater like mine to match? Basically you can recreate this look in every color for $100 or less a look – so get shopping!!! You can thank me later 😉
Photography on this one was a Joint effort, some by my shopping partner for the day and some by my momma who was in town for the weekend!
So here’s how this post is going to work, I’ll show you ten ways to wear each investment piece then show you 5 or so versions of that investment piece at all different price ranges for you to purchase to get the look! In the end you’ll walk away with 100 new outfits and tons of style information – awesome right? So without further ado, let’s do this thing!
The Graphic Sweatshirt You know how you can’t go wrong with a graphic tee? Well the same can be said for a graphic sweater or sweatshirt! Dress it up, dress it down and wear it everywhere!
A Pleated Skirt We all know a full midi skirt is a must have (I wear one almost everyday) but if you’re looking for a skirt with a little less drama but just as much stylish impact, a pleated midi skirt is a perfect pick plus it will look amazing with almost every Fall trend!
The Pastel Mini Pastels are usually a Spring thing, but this year they are one of the biggest trends for Fall! The best part? The fall-worthy pieces you invest in today will carry you through to Spring 2015 and for many more springs to come. I love a pastel midi to wear with knee high boots, dark tights, chunky turtle necks and pretty much anything else.
The Leather Vest Vests had a major moment this Fall! Although I am kind of obsessed with some of the sleeveless pea coat styles (like this one) and the fantasy fur vests (like this) going on this season, I choose to stick to the classics with a leather moto-esque vest. This is true investment piece that you’ll be able to wear for seasons to come and with almost everything!
A Statement Shoe I feel like a crucial part to every wardrobe is a killer heel and every season gives you a new chance to splurge on at least one awesome pair. They can really become the defining point of a simple look when paired with distressed denim or a midi skirt to show off those stems!
The Chunky Turtleneck There is nothing cozier then a big giant chunky turtle neck! Plus is pairs perfectly with a contrasting mini skirt or easy with boyfriend jeans. Basically you can’t go wrong with a turtle neck sweater!
The Black & White Bomber Bombers are seriously the best – no lie! An awesome varsity jacket can keep you warm while making you look crazy cool. Plus whenever I wear one, I feel like the bad-girl-class-cutting-head-cheerleader alter ego. She’s totally not me but it is so fun to pretend right (see my anti-courtney alter ego here)
The Pastel Sweater Since Fall Pastels are all the range this season, why not invest in a super cozy pastel sweater. I chose a V-neck to switch things up, but whatever sweater you choose will be perfect for this Fall and for Spring too!
The Plaid Mini I’m kind of obsessed with all the varsity trends that have been floating around this season and the 90’s inspired plaid midi has to be at the top of my list. I’m not sure if all the hottest designers got together last year and had a clueless marathon before designing their 2014 collections or if I’m just totally buggin’ but am truly thankful for the 90’s style comeback.
A Cropped Sweater Crop tops were everywhere this year, first Spring and then again come Summer, so why not give the trend a cozy twist for Fall? Well you belly bearing wishes have been answered with the crazy cool cropped sweater trend.
And now, just to overwhelm you (and prove I’m not lying and that there is actually no exact repeats 😉 ) here’s all 100 outfits!
And that’s a wrap! I hope this helped you in creating your Fall Fashion Wardrobe! If you loved this post please leave me an awesome comment below and feel free to share this post I’ll be back at it again come Spring 2015!
These past two weeks of crisp, cool weather have spoiled me rotten and sealed this season’s fate – Fall is finally, officially, 100 percent here and my wardrobe couldn’t be happier about it.
Fall is the perfect time to bust out the basics, but wear them in new fresh ways. I am all about Fall Casual-Chic where I pair neutral colors with classic silhouettes and one unexpected pop. I gave my black leather midi a cozy fall twist by tucking this chunky sweater in before pulling this soft leather jacket over the top and pumping up the look with a touch of leopard.
Here’s a trick – if you’re tucking in a sweater or anything heavy into a slimming skirt, try the front tuck, where you dart about five or so inches of the front of your sweater into your skirt (or jeans). It will give your sweater a new shape without loosing the slouch!
In addition to dusting off my favorite fall basics, I always end up stocking up on new basics at this time of the year. I recently added this brown leather jacket and leather midi skirt and replaced my leopard heels with a new, pointed pair! These are basics I know I will wear for fall seasons to come and can even carry forward throughout winter and spring… so I don’t fell as bad breaking the bank a little to do so (just don’t tell my boyfriend 😉 ).
“Spotted: C stealing B’s style and trying to pass it off as her own. Oh C, don’t you know there is only one Queen B and she doesn’t like Downtown girls going through her laundry bin. Hold on to your headband’s Upper East Siders, looks like we might have ourselves a cat fight.”
For today’s third and final Blair Waldorf inspired look of the week, I drew inspiration from B but decided to update her style just a teeny bit. Gossip Girl ended two years ago, so sadly Blair missed so many Waldorf-worthy trends like crop tops and midi skirts! If B was still roaming the Upper East Side (or our television) today, she would most certainly be twirling away in the most dramatic of midi’s. While some rock a midi with sporty slides, exposed mid-drifts or even a graphic tee, I presume Miss Waldorf would wear it with a floral blouse and bow pumps… duhhh B always brings the drama, so a bright red midi is just one small piece of an over-the-top outfit. Although B probably would indulge in the crop top trend, she would make it her own by investing in a subtly sheer floral blouse to tuck into her mind-blowing midi. Since pattern, trends and twirl-worthy red aren’t enough for Queen B, I think Blair would finish the look with another pop of color and a little bit of bow action with powder blue pumps.
