Going Gingham

31st March 2014

It’s Spring – or so they say, nyc is still pretty chilly –
So now is the perfect time to start testing out some of the seasons new trends!
One that was all over the runway for the third year in a row is gingham. Gingham is great – this perfect picnic print puts everyone in a good mood!
Designers like Derek Lam, Balmain, Carven, Delpozo and Oscar De La Renta showcased gingham prints with a cool twist in their SS14 collections, but this fashion-forward trend is super wearable and can easily translate into everyday outfits! To prove it to you, I’m sharing twelve ways to wear it this season.

Shop the looks:

My printed obsession is nothing new, I’ve had a life long love affair with gingham! All my checkered dreams came true when I picked up this orange dress last Spring! I can’t wait  for warmer weather so I can wear it again! Full post here: spoiler alert, Waffles makes an appearance!

nothing says summer in new york like a good old fashioned picnic!

despite my perfect picnic attire, i have yet to picnic in the city! but i did spend the day with a hansom french man!

i feel in love with gingham last year when miu miu featured this playful print for their spring collection, and i still kick myself for not splurging on a pair!
although my picnic ready dress serves as this look’s main attraction, some fabulous && affordable statement jewelry from tomorrow’s unknown made for the perfect finishing touches…
i’m loving this colored link bracelet! it’s a fresh, new take on the link trend and currently on sale for $18 (originally $28) at tomorrows unknown! i’ll soon be investing in every color to pair with my pavé link!
this amazing necklace is also from tomorrow’s unknown! i’m crazy about the antique feel, beading detail and the bright colors… oh and not to mention the affordable price point!
this dress will now always have a special place in my heart because i wore it when i became reunited with my best friend. she was serving on a mission, so i hadn’t see or talked to her for 18 months (only letters). i went to pick her up from the airport, wearing this dress and her first words to me (through tears) were “you look like a picnic basket”, so now I can’t look at it without cracking a smile! i’m so happy to have her back!

Life’s a Picnic.

20th August 2012

Today I’m crushing on another outrageous color combo.
… and channeling my passion for picnics into a perfect little outfit for all of your outdoor eating needs.

I la-la-love picnics! Unfortunately, being the busy bee I am, I rarely get to stop and smell the roses, let alone enjoy a fabulous little picnic, but that doesn’t stop me for dressing like I can!when I think picnic, my mind goes straight to gingham, but checks are not necessarily necessary for a picnic inspired summer look! Try other patterns two like perfect polka-dots to give you that dash of afternoon whimsy. Did I mention I absolutely adore this spotted skirt? It’s comes custom sized from KTR designs & I couldn’t be more smitten, take a peek!
When creating a look based on a color crush, get creative! If you need a red/orange shirt but your closet isn’t providing one, look to your dresses for the solution! Here I turned my dress into a shirt by tucking it into my spotted skirt before layering up with the cardie.

A Walk in the park

11th July 2012

I’m not sure if I am still feeling patriotic from the forth or if this beautiful weather just brought out my inner lady liberty, but todays pattern mixing outfit lets freedom ring with an american-esuqe park-worthy look.
Who’s hungry? Come and get it! This outfit would be perfect for an all-american BBQ or an outdoor picnic.

With all the outdoor events and weddings that may fill up your summer event calendar, be sure to choose sensible footwear to avoid sinking! These wedge booties served as the perfect shoe for a day in Washington Square Park!
Although this look is outdoor and causal, I had to glam it up with bits of pearls, a flower pin and a big red lip! I also added a feminine touch to my top knot by braiding it at the crown!

Blue Old Navy Gingham Lightweight Camp Shirt // Forever 21 Candy Stripe Skirt (This one is actually cuter!) // H&M Denim Jacket // Red Flower Pin // Kate Spade Cobble Hill Small Leslie Handbag // Vince Camuto Brown Booties // Hand-Me-Down Pearl Studs // Color Me Courtney Scrabble Ring // Statement Pearl Necklace // J.crew Pave Link Bracelet // Pearl Bracelet // Kate Spade Idiom Bangle // Juicy Couture Buckle Bangle
