when life gives you lemons

18th June 2013

… why not turn them into an outfit!

one chilly morning at the end of February,
i woke to the smell of lemons and thought “i want a lemon
dress”! weird, i know, but i was determined. anyways, i searched online, local stores and even at vintage boutiques without success. by april i was about to give up when i stumbled upon lemon printed shorts at c.wonder.com (worn here). the next day, waffie && i wondered down to soho in search for the shorts, where i found this zesty little dress out of the same print!
i swiped my card with a smile and never looked back.
dress: c.wonder // top: kate spade (old, try this one!) // bag: vintage moschino // shoes: sam edelman // necklace: thanks to tomorrows unknown // rings: kate spade // wire wrap // vintage // arm party: j.crew // kate spade //  vintage // kate spade idiom bangles // forever 21
happen to notice my necklace? it’s my new go-to statement piece from one of my favorite etsy shops  tomorrows unknown!
for the extremely affordable price of only $22, you too can get the look in yellow or any other color!
a few more ways to get your lemon fix…
simply lemonade // eos lemon drop // smile pillow // cupcake via southern living [try a vanilla cupcake with lemon butter cream frosting] // ralph lauren chantilly tote // lemon body butter //

this dress

17th June 2013

excuse me, while i show off the newest addition to my closet…
this dress isn’t my usual shape (i’m mostly a fit and flair kind of girl) but i had to make an exception for this beauty. i’m crazy about the color blocking and the sparkle collar is the final finishing touch.

i also love that this dress doesn’t need much, the color blocking eliminates the necessity for a belt and the sparkle collar serves as a build in necklace. you can just step on up and walk out the door.

dress: kate spade // shoes: coach // arm party: j.crew // kate spade //  rings: wire wrap // francesca’s // handbag: kate spade // sunnies: miu miu
i paired mine with colorful pumps and spots of sparkle, but here’s another way to wear it!

30th May 2013

As a kate spade shop stylist, I am usually the one behind the scenes and styling clients … but yesterday, the tables turned when I styled and modeled for style spy: a segment on kate spade’s blog “behind the curtain”! and today i’m sharing some of the highlights! take a peek!
before you go…
pop by the blog for the full post!
although i was lucky enough to style my looks & star in the shoot, all photo’s, products and images belong to kate spade and the photographer. the collages were created by me using the original kate spade photographs pulled from the style spot blog post as featured on the blog.

checkmate.

2nd April 2013

check and mate:
window pane prints and black&white are both killer
trends this season, and today i take on both!

remember when the peplums hit it big last spring? well they are so flattering that i think they’re here to stay! so today, i mixed some of last years trends to keep with this spring’s it people pleasing prints: stripes & window panes!
no pane no gain! move over menswear, this print is no longer just for the boys! this spring is all about stepping out in bold black & white patterns like the show stopping window pane print. the key is to go graphic (think contrast colors or a shocking hue) to keep your look current & hip! Also try breaking up your print with a pop of color!
&& get the most out of a trend, invest in one trendy piece && play to its versatility! this pencil skirt is actually a straight up & down shirtsleeve dress! pair a peplum over it or a slouchy sweater to make a peplum, or try the dress tucked into a skirt to make a top! looking for something less daring? layer a blouse underneath or a cardigan over the top so you can rewear your trendy piece in new ways!
coat: forever 21 (i’m obsessing over this one) // top: h&m // dress worn as skirt: kate spade (its on sale!)  shoes: john fluevog (my all time favorite heel) // belt: kate spade (sale!) // handbag: kate spade // arm party: idioms // rings: kate spade // wire wrap (currently giving one of these away on the blog) // necklace: kate spade // statement pealrs // sunnies: miu miu

pink && polka

28th March 2013

today’s look pairs pink with polka dots as i step out in spots.

for a day off full of running errands && getting settled into my new apartment i looked to the art of the dot for inspiration. with polka dot sneakers, dotted denim and a pop of color i can feel cute while still being casual.
if you have a cropped or “bracelet length” coat, try layering a patterned long sleeve underneath for an unexpected pattern pop.
coat: kate spade // sweater: j.crew (similar) // top: h&m // denim: forever 21 // keds: kate spade // handbag: kate spade // gloves: kate spade // arm party: idioms // sunnies: miu miu
ps, did you notice my spotted soles? their kate spade for keds…

geo

26th March 2013

today we’re going geometric with purple pattern mixing!

pattern mixing is about takings risks and dressing outside the lines! dare to pair your favorite patterned dress with a contrasting pattern belt (or try a ribbon like i used) just use complimentary colors or classic black & white to keep it under controll!
as we step into spring, don’t forget about your favorite tights! instead give them an upgrade and go for a vibrant stocking to pair with your favorite flirty skirts.
dress: kate spade // tights: target // belt: ribbon from target // necklace: kate spade // sunnies: miu miu // cardigan: kate spade // boots: shoegasm (my new favorite) //  ring: kate spade // arm party: sequin // kate spade idioms  // vintage // kate spade charm bracelet // j.crew // sequin

tulle town

19th March 2013

after taking a few weeks off to manage my move to nyc,
i’m finally back to blogging! && today we take a twirl in tulle.

sequins && tulle can make a girl feel like a queen,
but today i took a new take on twirl && gave it a casual twist.

when pairing two statement pieces or even mixing patterns, use black (or a neutral) to break it up and keep the look for going over the top.
also try mixing your mediums! this look started out girlie, but the menswear inspired vest && casually chic boots give it some unexpected edge.
shirt: j.crew // skirt: h&m (love this one from ktr, she will be back to selling soon) // belt: kate spade // tuxedo vest: halogen (love this one) // boots: shoegasm (my new favorite) // black tights //  bag: kate spade (outlet find) // ring: kate spade // arm party: sequin // kate spade idioms  // vintage // kate spade charm bracelet // j.crew // sequin

before you go…
now you can view all my past outfits in one location:
thanks again for giving me a break during my move!
&& stay tuned: apartment && nyc pictures still to come.

mad about kate fall ’13

11th February 2013

happy monday!
today we’re mad about kate spade fall 2013.

as you may (or should know) its fashion week here in new york city! and late last week, kate spade revealed their fabulous fall collection.
2013 marks the 20th anniversary and therefore year of “things we love” at kate spade, and for fall kate is loving new york city and drawing inspiration from the big apple!
i’m dying for these show-stopping shoes, they are a sparkly take on a classic tuxedo
mad about must haves…
although i a simply smitten with this entire nyc collection (seriously, who isn’t), there are a few stand outs that will have to make their way into my closet…
what about you? what parts of this collection are you coveting most?

b&w bows

10th February 2013

one of my last az looks was a bow inspired cream && black number…

mint is all the rage this season and makes the most refreshing hue for the perfect color pop.

i made a bold monochromatic statement by pairing black && white with a double dose of bows.

dress: just taylor  // trench: vintage // bag: kate spade //shoes: kate spade // ring: kate spade // arm party: sequin // bcbg // kate spade idioms  // vintage //  kate spade charm bracelet (i’m obsessed) // j.crew // sequin

after rain comes a rainbow

30th January 2013

why should i wait for a rainbow,
when i can wear one when while it’s still pouring?

everyone should invest in one pair of color rain boots (they don’t have to be the expensive-esque hunter ones … mine were $25 rain boots). anyways, colored wellies will really brighten up your rainy day && add the perfect pop of color to our outfit!
a color pop doesn’t have to be a single thing. next time you see yourself drawn to your favorite lbd or a black&&white outfit], try to add not just one, but two (or more) pops of color to your look. it will add an unexpected brightness to your look.
dress: kate spade – sale! (see it again here, here & here) // trench: h&m // bag: kate spade // rain boots: target // necklace: statement pearls + poppy pin (tutorial) // earrings: pearls // ring: kate spade // arm party: sequin // bcbg // kate spade idioms  // michael kors // kate spade charm bracelet (i’m obsessed) // j.crew // sequin
