joie de vivre

6th November 2012

some think kate spade is all about twirl worthy dresses, bow belts && sky high heels, but there is so much more to the brand then just that! to prove it to you, here is a casual kate spade look.

like the last post, 99% of this look is kate spade, even though it is a pretty casual day time look!
oh && as a special treat, waffles crashed this post!
my stylish sweatshirt was from august’s garance doré collection (now on sale) && reads “joie de vivre”, french for joy of life pairs easily with pops of red and polka dots!
can we take a second to talk about these polka dot jeans… oh, they are just the most amazing things! kate gave dark denim a make over with stylish spots. i went a little crazy with the dots but you could also wow by wearing them with just a basic bright tee.

denim && dots

10th October 2012

I apologize for all the polka dot’s lately… actually, no, i rock a lot of polka dots && do so with pride!  so no, i am not at all sorry about it!
it’s finally beginning to feel a bit like fall, well an arizona fall, where if we’re lucky we’ll get an 80 degree october day (please, please, please). so I wanted to get into the swing of fall fashion while beating the heat, and this dots && denim outfit let me do it!
by wearing a black boyfriend tuxedo vest over a denim shirt, i got a taste of fall layering without breaking a sweat. also, pairing these two menswear tops, one casual (denim) && one dressy (vest) gave the look an interesting contrast especially when paired with a girly skirt && whimsical accessories. the unexpected leopard print belt, bold pearls && dot over-dose were the outfit’s final finishing touches.
i’m loving the doubling up on dots look lately, especially with my newest handbag purchase, it matches perfectly with my favorite polka dot heels! my new wire wrap rings && earrings are also making their blogs debut: look for the “xo” && the ampersand!
denim: banana republic // tuxedo vest: hallogen // skirt: self-made // handbag: kate spade (the perfect bag, i love it!) // belt: express (similar) // necklace: francescas // pumps: kate spade (classic && comfortable) // rings: forever 21 // wire wrap x2 (my new obsession) // francescas // earrings: kate spade // wire wrap // arm party: kate spade (similar) // sequin // vintage // kate spade (similar)

mix && maxi

25th September 2012

i’ve got the blues …. && greens in today’s mix && maxi post, an outfit that I wore to the duce in downtown phx.

for a day full of vintage shopping that ended && the darling duce (a vintage boxing ring turned event spade && sandwich shop) I had to pull out a casual courtney look…

i wore a maxi dress, but with a twist. I knotted a basic t-shirt dress over the top of my liz claiborne chevron maxi dress, that’s older than I am!
dress 1 (worn over): forever 21 // dress 2 (under): vintage liz claiborne // necklace: j.crew // handbag: katespade // earrings: coach // arm party: kate spade// j.crew // sequin // kate spade bangle x3 // sequin // vintage // sequin

20th September 2012

layering (yes, i’m hyping layering again, don’t judge me) can help you transform a few pieces into very different outfits!
for today’s outfit I layered an orange and white shirt over one of my favorite courtney green (yes, courtney green, not kelly green, because no one named kelly loves this color as much as I do) dressess. oh & if that didn’t excite you, my pup waffles joined my for this post!

with the bright colors and simple patterns, this look is a little bit preppy! in fact, my looks seem to be getting preppier and preppier lately. i’m really not too surprised my style always switches up during the fall, believe it or not, a few seasons ago I went edgy (crazy, i know!)

layering a shirt over a dress is an easy way to switch up your look and make people look twice. something as simple as knotting your top at the waist will help cinch your center and define your waist. wearing a top over also allows your favorite dress to double as a sassy skirt!

top: h&m (spring) // dress: amanda uprichard (worn under) // shoes: john fluevog (on sale!!!! i’m so obsessed with mine, i’m about to buy a second pair! they are beyond adorable && so comfortable!) // handbag: diy (coming soon) // scarf: vintage // earrings: coach // necklace: j.crew // arm party: kate spade// j.crew // sequin // kate spade bangle x3 // sequin // vintage // sequin
before you go, i want your thoughts on this looks color combo? i rarely pair green && orange together for fear of looking like a carrot, but i think if you use the right shades && throw in some white, it works! do you agree? i even think it would make a really cute color combo for home decor! here’s what i was thinking…
as always, tell me what you’re thinking! until next time, stay fabulous.

maiden lane mademoiselle

10th August 2012

Pardon my french-ness, but I am in full-blow Persian chic mode as inspired by garance dore & kate spade new york. I have been galavanting around the city, imagining I’m in Parie, if only….

get the look: laura top // french tee
This month’s collection at kate spade is french & fabulous (hm, maybe this calls for a marketing monday post…) so I am beyond excited to feature some of these fantastic pieces in this outfit…
To add an touch of unexpected-ness & pump up my outfits, I like to use leopard print as a neutral! Normally, a red shoe or even a black heel would be the go to sole for this look, but try stepping outside the box and into the wild with a pop of leopard like I did with my newest haircalf pumps.
If you love it, buy three! This is a saying we use at kate & some words to wear by. I love my karolina pumps, they are crazy comfortable & always adorable so I now own them in kelly green, black & white polka dot (to be featured soon), black with a sparkle heel & now leopard!
I try really hard not to be limited by my wardrobe. A basic tee can have so many uses, layer it with a peter pan collar or a fun necklace to add an unexpected level of whimsy & sophistication!
Top: Kate Spade (worn under) // Tee: Kate Spade // Skirt: BCBG // Shoes: Kate Spade (The Karolina. Not online, but in stores) // Handbag: Kate Spade (similar style) // Necklace (Ribbon): Vintage Ribbon Pearls worn under collar // Earrings: Kate Spade // Necklace: Kenneth Jay Lane (Vintage-esque) // E-reader: Barnes & Noble Nook // Case: Kate Spade // Arm Party: Kate Spade // J.crew // Kate Spade // Nordies // Kate Spade Ring // Domino RingPhotobucket

earn your stripes

8th August 2012

I’ve been a little bit wild lately with all the animal prints … and I’m so not sorry about it.

If that wasn’t enough, I’m pairing these prints with a perfect peplum, lets take a peek…
If you want to dabble in animal print mixing, you don’t have to go over the top. Start by playing it safe with just a hint of mixing, I just used a little bit of leopard to get the look without going overboard.

If you have a sleeveless or short sleeve peplum top, try giving it sassy twist by layering a collared blouse underneath! Oh, and fyi, A basic short sleeve blouse is a good basic to have for all your layering needs!
All black & white can be chic, but also borderline boring! So if you find yourself in a b&w outfit, pump up your look with a pop of color! A bright shoe or bold bag can be your perfect little pop to help take a look from drab to fab.
Top: Forever 21 (worn under) // Peplum: Kate Spade (Sale!) // Skirt: Boutique’d (now @ modcloth) // Shoes: Kate Spade // Handbag: Moschino (vintage) // Belt: J.crew // Sunglasses: Tom Ford // Earrings: Kate Spade // Arm Party: Kate Spade // J.crew // Juicy Couture // Kate Spade (old) // Kate Spade Ring // Domino Ring

Buttons & Bows

21st June 2012

Today’s look has a few componets: it helps us dress down a dressy dress while combining a few current trends: tomato red, denim, pops of color and arm parties.
Recognize this dress? It’s the Kate Spade Jillian dress I wore for my MBA graduation, but today it’s getting a casual make over! Here’s how I took it from dress to day…

With the Jillian dress, a little bit of layering can go a long way! I paired a button up shirt under the dress  to dress it down a bit!
Arm partys are all the rage right now! So as always I piled on the arm candy with lots of bracelets, bangles and bling!
A pop of color is always a great way to make a statement for spring! For this outfit I choose a turquoise necklace and turquoise gum drop studs for that perfect pop!
Denim is also really big right now from colored skinnies to chambray tops. For this look, layering a denim button up under the jillian helped dress it down!
Tomato red was all over the spring runway from prints and patterns to bold solids! It is a super easy trend to try, play it safe by pairing it navy, denim or brown, or be bold by pairing it with turquoise (like me) or even yellow!
I finished the look by neutralizing it with gold.

Shirt: Banana Republic Denim Button up. Dress: Kate Spade Jillian Dress (sale!). Necklace: Kenneth Jay Lane All Eyes On You Necklace. Necklace: Vintage Kenneth Jay Lane Sparkle Necklace. Earrings: Kate Spade Gum Drop Studs. Bag: Kate Spade Gold Scout. Shoes: Vince Camuto Oxford Booties. Ring: Kate Spade All Wrapped Up Bow Ring. Arm Party: Kate Spade Idiom Bangles, Juicy Couture Buckle Bangle, Kate Spade Lady Marmalade Bracelet, J.Crew Pave Link Bracelet.

Sophisticated Sparkle

13th June 2012

Glitter, glitz and glam can be any girl’s best friend, but it’s all about how you wear it!
It’s no secret that I am a bit of the top, I eat sleep and breathe bold colors and in your face outfits. But not everyone enjoys being as obnoxious with their outfits as I do, so here’s a way to a sparkly style in a sophisticated way.

As you know by now, I am all about the layering. To take a sweater or shirt from basic to bold, I pair it with a button up blouse. And to make a statement I layered on the necklaces!
Do any of these pieces look familiar? It’s because I wear them all the time! This outfit contains a few key investment pieces that could be worn a million ways: white skirt (a la zara), a black bow belt (kate spade) and a white button up. If you are color crazy like me, a bright bag and bold pumps may also make your investment list!
Over all, I like this outfit because it’s classy enough to make a good impression but still classic Courtney with bold pops of color and a little bit of glitz. I guess the moral of this outfit is you don’t have to sacrifice your personal style to “look the part”, you just have to intertwine the two.

Shirt: basic button-up, J.crew. Top: Sparkle Top, J.Crew (similar). Skirt: Tulip, Zara (similar). Belt: Gathered Bow Belt, Kate Spade. Shoes: Medugorje Pumps, John Fluevog. Purse: New Bond Street Florence Handbag, Kate Spade. Jewels: Kate Spade All Wrapped Up Ring, Kate Spade Gum Drop Studs, All Eyes On You Kenneth Jay Lane Necklace, Statement Pearl Necklace.

Watermelon Stripes

11th April 2012

fun fact: I love watermelon, how it looks how it tastes and the fun colors!
so for this look I paired watermelon colors with statement jewelry and lots of layering!

By layering a pink button up under a striped cardigan I took my basics from boring bold
I also layered my pearly statement necklace over the sweater but under the collar.
my favorite part of this outfit is the carryon luggage piece
I received this set of luggage for christmas from the fabulous Katrina! Imagine my surprise when I opened it up to use it a month later and found this cute little carry on piece inside! So somedays I wear it as a purse!
Sweater: Green Striped, The Gap. Shirt: Pink Button Up (worn under), Foxcroft (similar here or here). Jacket: Thrift Store Find. Skirt: Simply Sublime Skirt, now available at modcloth. Basic Black Tights. Shoes: Vintage. Purse: Carry On Luggage, La Vida. Necklace: Pearls, Vintage. Idiom Bangles, Kate Spade. Glasses: Cat Eye, Tom Ford. Earrings: Gumdrops, Kate Spade.
