Coat Check w/ Modcloth

15th November 2013

It’s no secret that i’m a big, giant, colossal, crazy-in-love fan when it comes to the bubbly brand Modcloth (need proof? and have an hour to kill? take a peek at all my featured posts)! To say I’m addicted, would be an vast understatement! They are the perfect blend of classic and quirk, whimsy and wonder, trendy with a twist and I am just beyond obsessed. So when I was received an invitation to participate in their current blogger contest, I jumped for joy … and today I’m sharing my entry!
Introducing the Call of the Style Coat by modcloth
This coat is as cute as a button, althought it doesn’t have any, but it does feature rich toggles, the perfect sized pockets and darling trim that pops! Toss it over flannel for an afternoon picking pinecones or pair it with a LRD (little red dress) for sunday brunch with the girls… the coat is so versatile it can work for any gal or any occasion.
love it already? shop it here

Modcloth assigned me this amazingly adorable piece from their site, and asked me to create a look featuring that item. But being the over-acheieving mod-enthusit I am … I created three over-the-top outfits to go under this Call of the Style coat :]

The Voracious Reader

This girl may always have her nose in a good book, but is still well read when it comes to style! She cares about comfort but does so with a quirky flair by layering a printed plaid shirt under a graphic tee before slipping into colored skinnies, a low oxford heel and finishing the look with fun gloves and earth tone accessories!

Daydream Believer
This stylish jet-setter is always on the go … and always to the most fabulous places (even if they are around the corner) She’ll spontaneously skip town for the weekend, play hooky to spend the afternoon at her favorite museum and hike with her pug on sunday mornings, even though she usually ends up carrying the little guy (he get’s tired). When this weekend explorer finds herself stuck in the same zip code, she doesn’t fret by simply escapes with perpetual day dreams of carefree days in colorful Capri and Autumn or evenings on the east coast.

The Chic Geek
Guys make passes at girls who wear glasses! Under this girl’s darling coat you’ll find an adorkable sense of style. She pairs high socks, lace up shoes and animal prints (no, not the always trendy leopard print, but actual animal prints) in the chicest way! She mixes her matches and pairs patterns like a pro, but also plays with proportion without scarfing her silhouette by slimming her waist with a big brown belt. Her finishing piece? a fox scarf to prove nerds are hot and well, because why not?

Oh and this isn’t my first mod-related contest entry, check on out my winning look for the wwzwd X modcloth blogger contest here
Well, that’s all for today! I would love to hear which look is your favorite of the three. Until next time, stay fabulous!

The Art of War

7th November 2013

Army Jackets are a fall (winterish) must, I have basically live
in mine all season long. Although this trendy piece pairs perfectly with
all black for a chic and effortless look, it is also a little over-done. So I gave this look a little make-over by mixing bold graphic pints
with girly-glam accessories to switch things up!
Oh, and did you nottice my non-fashion accessory courtesy of Starbucks….
It’s the most wonderful time of the year: red cup season!
Jacket: Vintage (obsessed with this one) // Dress: Modcloth (this one is darling!) // Bag: Coach (similar) // sunnies: Karen Walker (also here) // Arm Party: Francescas // Jcrew (similar + 50% off!) // Belt: J.crew
I love goodwill, if you’re patient enough you can find some great stuff! One goodwill hunting trip a few years back, I snagged this Army Jacket and matching pants. Since the military trend is here to stay, I wear them separately all fall long! I love that the army green color works as a neutral: pair it with other neutrals, pump it up with a pop of color (Try red), or follow my lead and play with pattern! Comfy, Casual or even Classy… work this versatile jacket all season long! My jacket is not my only “thrifted” find: After realizing I do not own a normal sized black purse (what’s wrong with me?) I stole this oldie from my mom’s closet, sorry mom! I love my vintage version but they are few and far between, but don’t fret Coach still sells a similar one here!

Nerdy Neon

6th October 2013

I have awful eyesight, practice my time tables at the gym and wore headgear as a teenager. I’m beyond excited to attend San Diego comic con next year, completed my MBA at 21 and would rather stay in and read then go out and party. Needless to say, I’m a nerd … and proud!

Dress (worn as a skirt): Kate Spade (Similar) // Glasses: Urban Outfitters // Sweater: J.Crew (Love this one) // Bag: Cooperative (purchased via Modcloth) // Pink Bracelet: Tomorrow’s Unknown // Booties: Shoegasm (Love these, and these) // Socks: Kate Spade (Similar) // Necklace: Marc Jacobs ( Similar here // with a twist) // Lipstick: Mac
I’m a firm believer in brights for fall, so I paired my neons with socks and booties to help me step into the season. I also love a full skirts, but my lack of them in my closet forced me to get creative with this look. The skirt you see here is actually a dress (seen as a dress here) – I pulled the bodice inside the skirt, zipping it as much as possible to lay flat (technique last seen here). If you aren’t into tucking your dress in, simple just tie a sweater over your dress like I did here.

15th September 2013

Today I’m entering a blogger contest hosted by one of my favorite sites
wwzdw: what would Zooey Deschanel wear.

So today’s look is inspired by the new girl herself, Zooey Deschanel. I’ve adapted her “adorkable” style by pairing a retro-inspired modcloth dress in a novelty print with a bright party-cardie and four eyes.

so todays post serves as my contest entry (cross your fingers for me), where wwzdw asks bloggers to answer the question: “what would zooey deschanel wear?” with either an outfit post or style suggestions. For my look, I decided to go with a fun, novelty printed dress from my favorite retailer: modcloth! To keep it conservative and bright, I layered with a matching cardigan and neutral oxfords. Zooey usually keeps it simple with accessories, so I paired pretty rings with a vintage-esque bag, added a braided white belt and finished with my tortoise frames.
Zooey Deschanel star’s in Fox’s “New Girl” & is half of my favorite musical duo, She & Him (See my post about thier concert here). But I admire her for much more than just her screen and stage skills, I’m also obsessed with her sense of style, so when I heard about the wwzdw contest, I had to participate!
Pardon me, while I gush about WWZDW…
The site allows you to style stalk Zooey Deschanel from the comfort of your computer. She breaks down the specific outfit details of everything Zooey wears on “The New Girl” and in real life and has two other equally amazing sites: What Would Taylor (Swift) Wear and Worn On TV (which combines my two loves: tv and fashion by covering all other TV shows worth style stalking. I especially love the fashion of pretty little liars, hart of dixie and the carrie diaries!

modcloth pop-up shop!

19th June 2013

last weekend i was honored to attend modcloth’s first ever pop up shop, with one of my favorite people miss channing pickett … and today i’m sharing some of the highlights!
if you aren’t familiar with modcloth, you should be! is bubbly brand with a retro-vibe where you can find darling dresses and charming clothing in a variety of sizes and styles! although modcloth is online only, they do offer free returns and free shipping making it easy to shop and send things back at your leisure!
although the pop-up shop had all sizes, the event was specifically designed for the launch of modcloth’s plus sizes! i love that modcloth is a brand that designs for all shapes and sizes and that they did a popup shop to allow their pretty plus customers to be able to try on the product prior to purchasing!
the damage…
so channing and I both fell in love with this darling yellow dress
since we both live in the city and practically share clothes anyway, we decided to split the dress and split the price! here’s two ways to wear it…
over all, the event was fabulous! although i expected nothing less from modcloth. fingers crossed that they do another pop-up soon!
follow – let’s stay in touch

a little lilac

26th May 2013

today i pair pretty pastel prints with a little bit of pattern.
i’m loving lilac this season! try pairing lavender with seafoam or navy!

if you’re mixing prints, choose two tone patterns that both use white. doing so will preserve the whimsy of pattern mixing without taking the look over the top.

Style Spotlight: Adette Dress

22nd May 2012

Hi dolls, I want to introduce a new reoccurring segment on my blog: style spotlight!
For this segment, I will be featuring the style of some of my favorite characters and celebrities including  satc’s Carrie Bradshaw, glee’s Emma Pillsbury and Zooey Deschanel – both on and off the set of fox’s new girl. These segments can be found on the right hand side of my blog!
First to step into the style spotlight is miss Zooey, as Jess on new girl.

Zooey is wearing the adorable Adette dress from Kate Spade’s January collection 2012. Throughout these spotlight segments keep your eyes open for the gold spade as shown above to indicate A Kate Spade sighting!
Zooey’s dress is no longer available, but you can still get her look for less.
this modcloth dress is a more casual take on the ksny adette dress, adding a belt completes the look! Not into navy? try this dress is khahi and magenta, but get it while you can, modcloth pieces go fast!
Colorblocking is a big trend for 2012, so here are a few more ways to get this look for less.
Colorblocked (via asos): pink&tanblack&whitemaroon, neon&navy.
this is not the first time this adette dress has been featured on cmc, check out the girl crush post for more zooey deschanel and ways to wear it

Simply Sublime

4th April 2012

You don’t have to have a big wardrobe to dress fabulously! In fact even though I am a bit of a clothes hoarder (who are we kidding, I have a problem…) I get the best use out of some of my few favorite pieces! You can too, and the post is the proof! I’ll be sharing with you one of my closet favorites!
Okay here’s the scoop on this skirt…

I actually bought it two years ago in some little tiny boutique in Soho, New York! Since then I have worn it constantly (at one point I was wearing it once a week) and I always get compliments on it, and people asking me where it is from, but I am always sad to tell them “some random store in new york” because I knew they wouldn’t be able to get and love this skirt as much as I do… boo.
So imagine my surprise when I made my daily visit to to check out the new arrivals (yes daily, I told you I have a problem… but hey they put up new stuff everyday!) and saw this skirt! It is the exact one I bought two years ago (except for the slight increase in price)!
So now does the skirt look familiar? I hope so! Especially my fashion twin Katrina (Seriously… we are obsessed with all the same things!), because this post is dedicated to her!
I remember you really wanting to get one of these skirts for yourself last summer when you asked me where it was from, I am so happy that the wait is over, and you can finally add one of these perfect pieces to your already wardrobe See Katrina featured as my personal paper doll

Anyways back to the skirt!
It is so amazing because there are so many ways to wear it! you can dress it up, dress it down, wear it to work or wear it out!

This simply sublime skirt is a rare find because it makes a silent statement, the black keeps it simple but the shape makes it fun! As a result, it is the perfect basic and will be a wardrobe workhorse for you and your closet!

Are you sold yet?
if so buy this amazing skirt here, quick before its gone!
I wear mine so much that I think I will pick up a second one myself! And here’s a plus: modcloth has easy and free returns, just print off the return label and ship it back for free!
