Blair Waldorf at the Met

7th October 2014

“They say imitation is the greatest form of flattery, but that doesn’t mean one should imitate the
Queen. Carful C, queen B doesn’t take well to copy-cats” – XOXO, Gossip Girl
Welcome back to another Blair-Waldorf inspired fashion post, where I am taking twirling tips from none other than the Queen of the Upper East Side herself. My Saturday started with a pre-museum brunch before heading uptown to strut my way through the Metropolitan Museum of Art with my mom, boyfriend and friend/photographer Claire. Although I live in New York, I rarely take time to enjoy some of the typical and almost “touristy” things the big apple has to offer. IMG_8525
I decided to take not only a style, but also a lifestyle tip for Miss Waldorf, by spending the day on the Upper Eastside exploring this beautiful museum (and killer rooftop view where these photos were taken – a must see if you are ever in NYC). Since B helped inspire my day, it was only logical that I stole her style for the day too… but I’m not sure if I would really consider it stealing since it is so close to my own 😉 I dusted off my favorite ted baker skirt and tucked it into a white Peter Pan collar blouse (p.s. if you don’t have one of these, you seriously need one – stat!).

IMG_8544We are used to Blair’s bows and have even seen her rock a tie or two, so I had to give her school-girl-style a chic update with a big Pussy Cat bow around my neck! I already owned an over-sized bow neck tie (are you surprised?) but I wanted a silky/satin one to match the material of my skirt. I took this giant black ribbon from my tiny NYC craft closet (which is sadly just a bedazzled box… boo) and used double stick tape to “hem” the edges before tying it around my neck and slipping it under the collar. If you choose to DIY or buy (for just $15) a bow like this can really amp up a basic white blouse and Blair-ify your wardrobe.

I’m a firm believer in pattern mixing, if you do it right (and in moderation) you can really make it work with any outfit. When in doubt, just add leopard. It’s more of a neutral than a pattern anyway, and pairs perfectly with almost every other print! I even wore it with Zebra once to really switch things up.

City Gal Swim

29th August 2014

This summer sped by quicker than the last (they seem to go faster every year) but that is nothing to be sad about. I am welcoming Fall with open arms, but have to say goodbye to Summer in style… triangl swimwear style.

I discovered this aussie swimwear brand and blogger fav this summer and loved wearing my leopard bikini all season long. Although I occasionally enjoy the beach, it is hard for me to get out of the city. Plus there are no dog beaches relatively near, and if I have a day off I want to spend it with Waffles! As a result, when I am looking for a wet and wild weekend, I turn to Central Park.
The boat house and lake at central park is small and beautiful. For $15 dollars (cash only) and a $20 deposit that you get back, you can row along the water for as long as your little heart desires. A few weeks back, Paris and I spend a warm day roaming the park, and getting our oar on at the lake. If you’re looking to get a little color or just enjoy some sun, take your boat out to the middle of the lake and lay out, it’s sun bathing experience with a city view that you simply cannot beat!
Let’s be honest, I started out completely awful and rowing, it was really hard for me to get the rhythm! But once I wasn’t that bad, I am night joining the olympic team anytime soon, but I quickly got the hang of it! If you choose to head to the lake in central park in your suit, I would bring big sunnies, a scarf to tie your hair back, a denim jacket (it gets cold on the lake) a scarf, and a high waisted skirt!
Well guys, this will be one of my my last summery-post I have some awesome fall things coming your way starting next week, so get ready! I will also be recreating this post this weekend for fall, if you have any suggestions or requests, please comment them below!
See ya Summer, Hello Fall.

Park Avenue Skate

19th August 2014

So last weekend, I went roller skating … down Park Avenue! The fact that I was able to do so without breaking a bone or (more impressively) without hurting my pride was pretty astonishing, and to top things off, Paris was able to capture the whole thing on camera… well this is going to be entertaining…

Sorry I have been a bit MIA lately, things have been a bit crazy … but in a good way! I have so many exciting things in the work and I can’t wait to share with you, so be sure to stay tuned and follow along on instagram (where a lot of the magic will be happening). Anyways, I promise I will be back to cluing you in to my every move from here on out :]
This past weekend was jam packed, on Sunday we went boating in central park and on Saturday we went to summer street – where they close down Park Avenue from down town all the way up to 77nd street. People choose to bike, run and jog through the city – and since I don’t do either (Shopping is my Only Cardio and I don’t know how to ride a bike … whoops) I opted to roller skate – how retro of me, right?
So what does one wear to a day of roller skating through the city? A full red midi skirt of course. I’ve been fully obsessed with Midi Skirts lately (this yellow one is was my summer fav, and I wore a different red one throughout last winter). I tied a basic white tee at the waist for a fun twist on the skirt – it was an easy way to update an otherwise dressy skirt to wear for the weekend.
I’m really impressed Paris managed to capture this craziness, did I mention he was wearing skates!

Hope your weekend was killer! I would love to hear what you got into, leave a comment below!

Zoo Day

25th July 2014

This post is jam-packed so let me apologize in advance.
TGIF right?! Last weekend blew by, and some how this week was one of the slowest ones ever? I woke up on Tuesday thinking it was Thursday, even told a co worker “hang in there tomorrow’s Friday, and they gave me the craziest look.. oops! Then woke up again on Wednesday convinced it was Thursday. Anyways back to last weekend, Saturday was busy busy but started with a Zoo day with one of my favorite people (and her awesome husband) Taylor Morgan!

So Incase you didn’t know, Taylor and I go way back. I grew up dancing at her Mom’s studio but we really became close when I moved to NYC. Moving across the country can be a scary thing, I moved with a roommate who only stayed 2 weeks before moving back home and only knew a handful of people in the city. I am SO THANKFUL I had her and her amazing husband James to lean on when I moved here and am still so lucky to have such great city friends. It’s even better now that Paris is here, because he and James get along swimmingly, #besties.
Taylor designs for Tommy Hilfiger and always gets great deals through her company, so her and James got free passes to the Queens Zoo Paris and I tagged along for the day! I had been to the Bronx Zoo but never the Queens one so we were excited to see what it had to offer. Naturally, I wore a zebra peplum top, leopard espadrilles and a snake purse; and Paris wore a bucket hat…. no comment.

Top Shop Koala Leopard Espadrille (+ solid colors here)
Kate Spade (old) Peplum (similar) || Wet Seal Black high-waist Shorts
Poppy Clips c/o gold studs – these snap onto to any shorts or pants
Honestly, the Zoo itself was just okay. The biggest highlight was the Sea Lions (I seriously love Sea Lions so I was really excited about seeing them), but the lack of elephants and monkeys kind of got me down.  But I always have such a blast with Taylor & James that they make even a monkey-free zoo such a blast. On the plus side, the Queens Zoo is small enough for a quick 2 hour trip or good for little kids because it’s a short walk & there’s a petting zoo.

And hey guess what, Taylor is positing about her Zoo day too (I don’t know why we don’t blog collab more, we really need to get our acts together) so swing by her blog & check. it. out.

Weekend Highlights
Before I let you go I wanted to share what I was reading this week. Last Sunday I made a list of all my favorite weekly reads and assigned days to check in on them, some have to be checked daily, and others twice a week but no matter the frequency, my type-A side made a schedule for it and I am planning on sticking to it! Thanks to my daily reading list I was able to keep up on all of my favorite blogs/sites this week (this never happens) so I had to share the highlights.
// Mackenzie Horan shares the sweetest class in NYC in her recap of a Macaron Workshop // I’m obsessed with how Blaire Edie rocked all white (my summer uniform) in this self portrait pretty // My good friend Melanie shares three things that make life easier – she’s one of the sweetest gals around with an infectiously positive personality so I have to try some of her tricks // Kelly in the City rocked this Jonathan Adler hat & now I’m jonesing for a beach day // A Lacey perspective is giving away a super cute summer outfit & her darling pug makes an appearance in the post //
What are your weekend plans?
Although there will be no parrots or alligators filling my days, it should still be a wild one! I’ll be turning another year older (and probably none the wiser) on Saturday so I will be celebrating with a polka dot picnic in the park. Be sure to follow along via instagram!

Bright Striped

7th July 2014

So I know I declared this the summer of all white, but that doesn’t mean I’m giving up my go-to black and white stripes for the season! So when the opportunity presented itself to combine color with my favorite pattern, I simply could resist.

I saw this skirt at Asos and knew I immediately fell in love with the combination of color and pattern play, but was hesitant about the silhouette. I am usually a fit and flare or full skirt kind of gal and rarely ever slip into a tight, pencil-like skirt, but made an exception for this striped beaut.

The skirt ended up being surprisingly comfy and versatile, and I wasn’t as awkward in it as I thought — I guess sometimes it pays off to step outside of your comfort zone. The fabric was super soft and the curved hem made this shape more flattering. As a kind-of-curvy-girl I was hesitant about wearing a tight horizontal striped skirt since this pattern is usually so unforgiving, but the high-low-curved-hem helps create the illusion of leg length while keeping you covered, and more importantly, comfortable. I’ve worn this skirt to the office with a bright chiffon top or even a playful peplum and can tone it down with a graphic tee, or a cropped tank and flat sandals! I also love the way Brighton Keller wore the same skirt with an off the shoulder black crop and coordinating bright bag for that extra pop!
I paired it with a striped crop top (of course) to keep the pattern play going and added bold b&w accessories, including my new favorite Nila Anthony Lego Clutch! I have had a life-long love for Legos, I’m not exactly sure why. My mom, who is an out-of-the-box interior designer, always dreamed of doing a Lego back splash in a kitchen, so I think they kind of remind me of her! So when Chanel came out with their Lego collection a few season back, I immediately feel in love with their child-inspired creations! Since Chanel is a wee bit out of my price range, I decided to admire from afar – until this Clutch came into my life and rocked my world. Like Chanel, it plays on the Lego-like aspects to create a cool, statement clutch, but doesn’t include the logo so you know it’s not a wannabe, just it’s own fun fashion moment.

P.S. What are you guys thoughts about Shoe Dazzle? I know I am really late to the party but was hesitent to sign up for something that charged me every month. These shoes convinced me to take the plunge but I got a little turned off when I realized they don’t offer free returns, just free exchanges and they actually charge you a $5 restocking fee — on a $40 pair of shoes, come on! Anyways, cancelled my membership and thinking of switching to Just Fab. Sound off – what have your experiences been like?

Macarons & Mimosas

23rd June 2014

This weekend I decided to host a little blogger gathering for some NYC gals ! It was a great chance for me to meet some of my favorites that I stalk from afar (creepy) and to catch up with some of  my blogger bffs while stuffing our faces!
I honestly had far too many macarons, I am only slightly ashamed (and strangley proud) to say my count hit the double digits. Macarons are such perfect dessert because they aren’t too too sweet and are perfectly portioned so you can stuff your face without feeling too guilty.

Since it’s not a party until you play the plate game, we did! All you need is paper plates, pens and a sense of humor. Just place the plates over your head and draw an agreed upon object. It’s one of my favorite ice breaker games, plus you always discover someone’s hidden plate drawing talents #SecretPicasso
The winners took home great gifts from some of my favorite new jewelry brands: Armed and Readi – one of my favorite new jewelry brands, Gina Cueto Jewelry (check out her awesome ear cuffs and I need this crisscross ring in my life), Style This Life (adorable tassel bracelets) and the darling J’adore Gems!

Hallie of Corals and Cognacs matched perfectly with our sweet treats
And of course Waffles AKA the Ham, had to make an appearance. Jessica Sturdy, one of my all time blogger favorites was smitten! Hoping she gets a french bully soon – Waffie desperately needs a new frenchie bestie!

It felt so good to get back to hostessing, for those of you who have been following along for a while you might remember parties such as my Harry Potter Dinner Parties, Kentucky Derby Themed Grad Party, Hunger Games Dinner Party, and my favorite, my Alice in Wonderland tea party; but ever since moving to NYC my parties have been few and far between. This is partially because of my lack of apartment space and also because my lack of city friends #loneralert. But now being here for a little more than a year now, I have befriended enough party-worthy pals to to help fill my dinner table (hopefully I made a few more at this event), and with this great garden space in my apartment building, I definitely see more diner parties in my future.

This mimosas and macarons event was an great baby step into hostessing again – especially for a gal on a budget (and in NYC, who isn’t!?) I picked up champagne, orange juice and macarons from Trader Joes — they were amazing, bite sized and only $5 for 12! I popped by Party City for cute plates, printed napkins and plastic champagne glasses which I decorated with gold polka dot stickers! The rest I pulled from my apartment decor, including a gold tray from my Kate Spade days, polka dot plates, golden chargers, striped J.crew jewelry trays (they are on sale for $12!!!) a Jonathan Adler dish and more! Plus Studio Mucci was kind enough to send me this darling garland that served as the perfect finishing touch and a must have for any pretty party — shop it here!

Lemon Drop

9th June 2014

I’ve been keeping it rather casual for the weekend lately, and this weekend was no exception! Waffles and I wandered about wearing my sum mer go-to’s while, running errands, testing out my new bucket bag and stopping to play with other Frenchies. The West Village is crawling with these little bug eyed monsters and Waffles is loving it, a little baby french even moved in across the street… named Mr. Smith – too cute!

Top: Asos Black Off The Shoulder Crop Top (or switch it up here)
Shirt (worn around the waist): J.crew French Print Pop-Over – so obsessed!
Skirt: Asos Cotton White Midi Skirt (Love this one on sale)
Shoes: Kate Spade for Keds Lemon Print Pointer White Ked Sneakers (more here)
Bag: Old Navy White Drawstring Leather Bucket Bag – It’s a steal!
Only $32 in white or $28 + 15% off in navy or saddle – use ONSAVENOW
Ring:  Gold hexagon ring c/o Nikibi
Crop tops & Midi Skirts have become my summer wardrobe, they are just so functional for the City Heat. And I’ve said it before and will say it again – the best way to wear a crop top without showing too much trend or feeling self conscious is with a midi skirt … no six pack required! Plus, added soothing around the waist gives it that added synch to really slim your waist all while protecting your white skirt from getting too dirty! Speaking of skirts, I think a midi cotton skirt can pair perfectly with darling keds for a casual, weekend look, and I’ve been living in my lemon printed pointer ones from the Kate Spade collab, aren’t they the cutest? I’m obsessed with the pointed toe and fresh lemon print, but ended up going a half size up as a result. You also might remember these from my 10 pieces 100 outfits spring investment post, if you need a little lemony-referesher, pop by the post!
Oh and waffles being the chubby monkey he is he can only walk a few blocks in the heat before he lays down and becomes immobile… so we always end up like this.
So When you see frenchies being toted around by their owners in the city it isn’t because they are pampering their pooch – it’s because their lazy, stubborn dog is too much of a diva to walk ;] #thisismylife

Little Red Pineapple

5th June 2014

Sporty styles are here to stay! I’ve packed my stilettos away in my kitchen – yes, I keep my shoes in the kitchen… I order take out like its my job so I had to fill my empty kitchen cabinets with something – and started stepping into crazy-cool slides!

Belt: Saks 5th Avenue basic gold black belt via My Sisters Closet in AZ
Purse: Coach Bleeker Pinnacle Crossbody in Painted Snake – obsessed with this one
Earring: DIY Giant Pearl stud (post coming soon), similar at bauble bar
Jacket: Nordies Black & Gold Moto Leather Jacket
P.S. Receive 10% off all bucket feet use the code COLORME10

Ever since attending the BucketFeet opening party for their soho popup shop (see the post here), I’ve been living in their sneakers. These pineapple ones are as hilarious as they are stylish and a great conversation starter. I have even started wearing these sporty slip ons to work – gasp. But hey, I work in fashion and sporty styles are on trend so I don’t see anything wrong with twirling through the office halls in a full dress & stylish slides – right?

Before you go, here’s a little blooper pic… #ToddlerSmile ?

French Kissing in the USA

10th May 2014

It appears I’m a bit culturally confused:
Parisian hat, Union Jack and very american ripped jeans… oh my!
Spoiler alert –  I may or may not also through up a super awesome peace sign (asian tourist style) at the bottom of the post…. please try to contain your excitement.

Hat: Vintage via Merchant Square in AZ
Top: Stripe Ponte Tee in red by Joe Fresh (also in black & white)
Shoes: Kate Spade Red Bow Marie Heels (old – similar here for $50)
Jeans: 7 dollar Steal from Wet Seal last summer (similar here)
Bag: Kate Spade Summer House Robbie Bag (old)
This post title was inspired by this awesome 1986 jam by Debbie Harry, it’s basically playing on repeat in my head while I write this post. I also love the lyrics plastered on this hilarious sweater by Zoe Karssen (also here). All this red, white and blue action makes me think of Zooey Deschanel and her new collection for Tommy Hilfiger – To Tommy, From Zooey. Knowing my love for Zooey and my previous role at Tommy Hilfiger, I can’t believe we have’t talked about this yet, I’ll have to do a featured post on the line soon (until then, shop here!)
These photos were taken on greenwich ave, one of my favorite drags in the West Village by my good friend, international photographer and favorite Tea date Claire Eliza. After which we promptly stuffed our faces with scones and filled our bellies with hot tea poured from a pot with the Queen’s face on it at my the most darling little tea spot, Tea and Sympathy.

Spring Picnic

28th April 2014

The weather has been up and down lately, mother nature just doesn’t want to commit to Spring! Anyways a few weeks ago we had our first warm weekend, so a few friends and I celebrated with a picnic in central park! Sorry for this delayed post, I had some computer issues, and thought these pictures were lost but the good old apple genius bar (and my boyfriend Paris) came to the rescue, so today I’m presenting the first picnic of the season… eek!
What’s a Picnic without Levain…

Shirt: Black and White Striped Zara Crop Top
Jacket: Nordstrom Black & Gold Leather Jacket (oldie)
Pants: Jolt High Waisted Black Skinny Jeans via Nordies (only $26!)
Picnic Basket: Super cool vintage find (love this white one on super sale)
(similar styles here and I LOVE converse sneaker wedge here)
Hat: Vintage Bonnie Beret Green Beret Hat
Picnics come in all shapes in sizes, but my favorites are kept simple. Sparkling pink lemonade, goat cheese, a big baguette, fresh flowers, grapes (see, I am a little healthy….) and Levain cookies (okay, maybe not) made for the perfect park picnic! If you aren’t familiar with Levain, shame on you! Just kidding, it is this charming little bakery on the Upper West Side that serves the most amazing monster cookies, that are larger than life in both size and taste! Since I live in the west village (Downtown) and my best friend Sheree resides on the Upper East Side, we often meet in the middle at upper west for our Saturday “bestie days”. Sometime we go to a movie at our favorite theatre with reclining seats, and other times we have picnics in the park … but Levain cookies are pretty much always present!
