A Smidge of Sparkle

17th November 2013

Holiday season is around the corner (okay, who are we kidding, holiday season is here!) and this swanky season is full of fabulous parties! So today I’m sharing my simple yet sparkly recipe for the perfect holiday look: lbd + red lip + sparkle = party perfection
+
+
i found this lipstick print on a wall in my neighborhood and I had to snap a pic! I’m wondering if it was meant to be cheeky art or just evidence of the most fabulous mugging ever!
a little black dress is the perfect way to play it safe while still looking chic for any event, but adding the statement red lip and a little bit of glitter help elevate this classic look by giving it a sparkling twist! Try pulling your hair back while going light on the accessorizing, it will really let the lips & the shoes shine! If minimal accessorizing isn’t an option for you (I don’t really do minimal, understated is overrated!) stick to the color-scheme by pairing a black belt & bag with metallic jewels.
Don’t compromise on comfort! Cozy up with a contrasting coat to keep you warm on your way to your sparkling soirée.

// lbd: vintage (loving this one, it gives you the dramatic fit & flare feel!) // belt: h&m (old, similar herehere and here) // pumps: j.crew // lipstick: mac (I also love this one by nars) // bag: kate spade

Before you go, I wanted to share a story about this dress. It’s a vintage party dress straight out of the sixties, it’s fitted, flared and fits like a dream. I found it at my favorite vintage store in San Francisco (I also love this one), it was a wee bit pricey, but also in mint condition and felt like it was made for me … so I just had to take it home! The owner of the store is also the most fascinating man, he even scoured the country and curated all the men’s accessorizes for the recent Great Gatsby remake! If you’re ever in San Francisco you’ll have to shop the vintage boutiques at in Haight Ashbury and be sure to pop by Mystery Mister!

blair flair w// uptown tulips

11th December 2012

today’s post is a special treat: i’m teaming up with the fabulous bree of uptown tulips for a crazy amazing collaboration! together we’re delivering three seasonal style spotlight post style stalking some of our favorite fashionistas to create hot holiday looks, starting with Queen B!

i love this blair outfit, it just screams timeless glamour: her elegant accessories are classic princess pieces while the bold color choice keep the look young && fresh.
For my take, I attempted to channel blair’s regal whimsy while keeping it courtney.

nothing screams holiday like pink sparkles, except maybe a big giant bow! and luckily, this look has both! i used a bit of layering to bring the sparkle to this bow-tastic dress.

I finished with sea foam shoes && girlie pearls! the shoe’s pop of pastel is very blair, plus it gives me a double dose of bows!

As a guest blogger for Courtney today (eek!), I’ll start by introducing myself! I am Bree and am the founder and blogger behing Uptown Tulips. After obsessing over Courtney’s Style Spotlight feature, I was inspired to work with her on a few look inspired by our favorite icons. The first one, representing possibly my style icon and the envy of New York, Blair Waldorf, ladies and gents. As the “it girl” of the Upper East Side, Blair knows a thing or two about Christmas balls and fancy parties. I found this little number in a vintage store a few years ago. The cut defies everything that is traditional, straying from Blair’s classic side. Besides from the festive shade of green, this dress also A little glitter goes a long way. A lot of glitter goes way farther! The peacoat is a recent purchase and as soon as I got it, I knew it would end up in this post! After all, outerwear is Blair’s favorite accessory.
14 days until Christmas! Happy Holidays!
xoxo Bree

tutu .. twenty two

24th August 2012

cue the confetti, it’s time for another hopeless hostess celebratory post! && this post is long over-due, for it reflects my twenty second (tutu) ballet birthday breakfast
the hopeless hostess knows no occasion is too small to celebrate, so of course when her special day comes around she starts the day of right… with a tutu inspired ballet birthday breakfast. she also doesn’t like to break the bank so she whips up a quick pdf invite, and includes it in an email to her ballerina’s to be.

the hopeless hostess knows invitations are only half of the party’s first impression, and the table decor serves as the second. she hangs a few balloons at various heights to create a colorful backdrop and uses pretty pleated tissue paper for tutu trays.
the hopeless hostess lets drinks serve as decor, by choosing colorful options like orange juice, apple juice, cranberry juice and pretty pink champagne!
drinks are just the beginning, the real stars of the table are the fabulous food, the hopeless hostess uses fun sized food for a fancy feel. she picks up small pastries, donuts and cinnamon rolls from the store, serves strawberries and raspberries with cool whip for dipping and whips up ity bitty pretty pancakes (just like normal pancakes, but use 1/3 the amount of batter, if you are a perfectionist planner, use a cookie cutter for perfect circles. pile on three, secure with a toothpick and garnish with raspberries, before serving with syrup, butter & jams).
and the hopeless hostess attends her extravagant events in style, wearing ballet-esque birthday attire with a little bit of sparkle!
i hope you enjoyed my second hopeless hostess post, be sure to check out all of my party planning posts. until next time, stay fabulous!
