Girly, Pearly Pullover

6th December 2013

I’m excited to announce the return of DIY Friday with a girly, pearly twist on a classic pullover as feature in last weeks post: Times Square Tulle
This is an quick, easy and affordable diy (do it yourself), and can even be a “no-sew” project by substituting a needle & thread for safety pins and rhinestone glue. Use an old sweatshirt or pick one up for cheap (mine’s from forever 21), and order the pearls or gems online or at your nearest craft store. Also, you can skip a step by buying a black bow via etsy!
Start by creating a black bow out of your fabric square (or using your premade bow) and sewing or pinning it to your sweatshirt (pinning it gives you the option to remove the bow, but make sure to use three pins so it lays flat). After you scatter the pearls to create a pattern, string your embellishments and sew (or glue them) them to your sweatshirt, and presto … a pearly pullover!
See how I paired mine with tulle for a Carrie Moment in Times Square Tulle!

pink && teal

10th January 2013

today, let’s brighten up the usual b&&w outfit with a pop of color

i’m all about the pop of color, it is always so perfect && so on trend for spring! but i couldn’t resort to just one surprising hue, i had to double my color with a pop of teal && a pop of deep pink (both hot colors for spring).

most either opt for pattern mixing or utilizing a color pop! but this year, be bold && try both! oh && when you’re looking to pattern mix try two geometric patterns like stripes && dots, gingham && polka dots or stripes && houndstooth (like me!).
did you splurge on a holiday day dress to die for? if so, here’s a tip on remixing your favorite festive frock for the new year! layer a cute cardigan over the top && cinch it with a statement belt to define your waist while making your dress look completely different!

dress: kate spade // cardie: target (try these) // belt: vintage // necklaces: francescas && diy pearls (tutroial) // shoes: kate spade (look for less)// earrings: vintage (check these out) // sunnies: miu miu // bag: kate spade // rings: vintage // wire wrap // betsey johnson // kate spade // vintage // arm party: vintage // sequin // vintage // kate spade idioms // vintage // michael kors // vintage // jcrew // forever 21

tinkerbella

28th November 2012

for this look, all you need is faith, trust and a little pixie dust… oh, and a sprinkle of kate spade whimsy && a dash of j.crew amazing-ness doesn’t hurt either.

i was feeling a little bit magical today! so i channeled my child-side for a tinker bell inspired look!
i tried to do j.crew justice by pairing my sequin shirt from a few holiday seasons ago (luckily they redo similar versions every year) with my crew cuts (embarrassing, i know) layered tulle skirt && pops of sea foam!
&& as always, piled on the accessories that included girlie pearls and bits of bling to bring a slight twinkle.
shirt: j.crew (last seen here) // purse: kate spade // skirt: j.crew crew cuts // tights: kate spade (they sparkle!) // necklaces: diy (make your own) && francescas // shoes: kate spade (not online yet, but in stores) // belt: j.crew // rings: kate spade // wire wrap x2 (customizable && great for gifts) // vintage // sunnies: miu miu //earrings: kate spade // arm party: sequin // kate spade (similar) // sequin // kate spade idioms x9 (old-ish) // kate spade // vintage // j.crew

8th November 2012

there’s something about the month of november that makes me want to slip into something that sparkles.

you may remember my glamours glitter pumps that i picked up for my birthday in july (if not, check out the post here). so when kate came out with a matching glitter bow belt for holiday, i had to get my hands on it.
a little sparkle can go a long way, but i liked to double up on the shine && the shade by adorning a double dose of polished purple && glamours glitter. i keep the color going throughout my arm parties with bold bangles and shiny accessories.
top: h&m (fall’12) // belt: kate spade (in three colors) // skirt: h&m (old) // shoes: kate spade (matches the belt) // purse: kate spade // sunnies: miu miu // earrings: vintage // tights: target // necklace: francescas // rings: kate spade // wire wrap (i’m obsessed!) // francescas // kate spade (outlet find) // arm party: sequin // kate spade (similar) // sequin // kate spade idioms x5 (old-ish) // michael kors // kate spade // vintage // j.crew
:: shine on ::
envious of my sparkle? since every girl deserves her moment in the sun, here are some sparkling steals all for under $50
if you’re in the mood to splurge, these glittered goodies are worth the money, including the kate spade glitter karolin a pumps i’m wearing in this look!

little bit of leopard

19th October 2012

let’s talk leopard… && pair this puurrfect print with a cute contrasting color combo

reds && blues make a great color combo && any shade will work. here i went for a deeper teal blue with a bright candy apple red, but turquoise && red orange also work really well together!
when you are working with a contrasting color combo, just try to keep the rest of the outfit neutral with golds, nudes or black && white. but don’t be afraid to spice it all up with a little bit of leopard
sweater: kate spade (i scored this little lady for a steal at the ksny palm springs outlet earlier this week) (here’s this year’s version) //  skirt: h&m // pumps: kate spade (only in stores) // purse: kate spade (another outlet steal) // necklace: francescas // belt: kate spade (similar) // rings: kate spade // forever 21 (old) //  arm party: sequin // kate spade (similar) // sequin // kate spade (old) // michael kors // kate spade

spotted

15th October 2012

for today’s look, i dressed down my favorite polka dot peplum with denim…
&& no that was not a typo, i’m actually wearing jeans!
nothing pop like a polka dot peplum! this top is red hot && lots of fun, so i cooled it down && gave it a casual touch with some slouchy boyfriend jeans.
heres a tip – to keep from looking too sweet, use a little bit of leopard in your look for that extra edge! leopard print is a great neural and looks great with almost everything! i used a little bit of leopard south of my ankles for that unexpected edge.
peplum: asos (on sale!) // denim: gap // belt: white house black market (red) // bag: moschino // shoes: kate spade (not online but in stores; the perfect leopard pump) // vintage aviators // necklace: francescas // rings: kate spade // wire wrap x2 (my new obsession) // francescas // earrings: kate spade // wire wrap // arm party: sequin // kate spade (similar) // sequin // vintage // pearls // kate spade (old)

Shocking Pink

16th August 2012

Make jaws drop, when you strut your stuff in shocking pink!

Today we’re thinking pink by pairing the happy hue with neutrals to make it pop, lets take a peek…

I love to wear pink, it makes me feel pretty & girlie! But pale pink can be so predictable, so it’s nice to add some edge by trying on a shocking pink color!
I love to wear pink, it makes me feel pretty & girlie! But pale pink can be so predictable, so it’s nice to add some edge by trying on a shocking pink color!
To make this color even more shocking, try pairing it with blush, creme or champaign (as shown). I choose to go for a mostly monochromatic look with pops of pink for a harsh contrast! The color combo even carried over to my tights with nude fishnets. Nude fishnets that can be a great transitional tight, for when the weather is still too warm for traditional tights.

Crew // Skirt: Thrifted // Shoes: Kate Spade (On Sale @ Kate Stores) // Earrings: Kate Spade // Handbag: Kate Spade (similar) // Lipstick: Mac Girl About Town // Fishnets: Zara // Necklaces: Vintage Pearls // Forever 21 Pearls // Arm Party: Vintage Pearls // J.crew // Nordies // Kate Spade // Nordies // Juicy Couture Forever 21 // Kate Spade Ring //

Audrey-esque

30th May 2012

today I was a little inspired…
by the one and only audrey hepburn“my look is attainable. women can look like audrey hepburn by flipping out their hair, buying the large sunglasses and the little sleeveless dresses”
– audrey hepburn

Everything old is new again, where black, bows, and big glasses never go out of style.
My newest kate spade celina dress oozes Audrey-ness. Adding the big glasses, bright lips and piles of pearls helped seal the deal.
Although I like color, a two-toned look can also make a stylish statement. The creme and black throughout creates a chic and classic vibe while the massive amounts of pearls and girlie over-the-top accessories keep it flirty.
Dress: Wildcard Striped Celina Dress, Kate Spade. Shoes: Jocelyn Pumps in Blush, Kate Spade (similar). Jewels: Chunky Pearl Statement Necklace: DIY (similar, kjl). Pearl Statement Necklace, J.Crew. Pearl Bracelets: Forever 21 & Vintage (similar). Earrings: Pearl Stud, Hand-me-downs (similar)

girls who wear pearls

11th April 2012

women usually either love or hate pearls, but I personally love to be dripping in pretty girly pearls!
so this outfit is centered around pretty statement pearls! take a peak and how I wore them.

Mixing mediums can be really fun and add interesting aspects to an outfit.
so when I decided to drape myself in pearls this morning, I made sure I added an unexpected edge to the look… a leather skirt and bright pumps!
pearls are great! they make you feel girlie… and like carrie bradshaw!

also, pilling on the pearls, or any statement necklace can be a really easy way to dress up a basic white button up.
the finishing touch, was bundling up in another key basic: a tan trench
Trench: H&M (2010) (similar). Top: Basic White Button up, J.Crew. Bag: Kate Spade (Old). Pearls: H&M and My Grandmothers. Belt: Gold Braided, J.Crew. Skirt: Pleated Leather, H&M. Earrings: Gold, My moms from the 80’s (similar) Shoes: Medugorje Pumps, John Fluevog. Ring: All Wrapped Up Bow Ring, kate Spade (still available in select stores!)
so what did we learn today? make the most of your basics! you can always make a statement with a few key pieces or unexpected pairings!
