spotted

15th October 2012

for today’s look, i dressed down my favorite polka dot peplum with denim…
&& no that was not a typo, i’m actually wearing jeans!
nothing pop like a polka dot peplum! this top is red hot && lots of fun, so i cooled it down && gave it a casual touch with some slouchy boyfriend jeans.
heres a tip – to keep from looking too sweet, use a little bit of leopard in your look for that extra edge! leopard print is a great neural and looks great with almost everything! i used a little bit of leopard south of my ankles for that unexpected edge.

wednesday trends-day: trills&frills

22nd August 2012

it’s wednesday, so lets talk trends!
today were tackling two twirl worthy trends: peplums & trumpet hems!

peplums were big big big for spring but are still hot for fall too! they give the illusion of a small waist or girlie curves. you can layer under them or over & wear them with almost anything!

we are all familiar with the popular peplum, but the trumpet hem is a less familiar trend that you may have not seen for a while…
trumpet hems are a bit trickier, they work best on tall or boy-ish figures, if you are too curvy or pear shaped, they can be unflattering so you might want to avoid this trend. I am a bit too bottom heavy for a trumpet hem skirt, or shirt. If you are bottom heavy or pear shaped & like to show off your ass-ets, try a fitted trumpet hem dress in a solid color, it will give you that booty-licious wow factor, without going over board.
one of my favorite trumpet hem pieces is this spurge worthy jacket from kate spade new york (are you surprised?) the trumpet is big enough to meet the trend requirement but small enough to be versatile. this tiny trumpet will work for almost every body type because the size allows it to stay flattering. this jacket also has statement details like a fun lining and bold buttons, plus the red color makes it perfect for this fall & for so many years to come.

since my body type is more peplum friendly, here’s how I pump up my looks with a patterned peplum top. I actually don’t own any trumpet pieces yet, but i’ll keep an eye out and send any ideas your way!

earn your stripes

8th August 2012

I’ve been a little bit wild lately with all the animal prints … and I’m so not sorry about it.

If that wasn’t enough, I’m pairing these prints with a perfect peplum, lets take a peek…
If you want to dabble in animal print mixing, you don’t have to go over the top. Start by playing it safe with just a hint of mixing, I just used a little bit of leopard to get the look without going overboard.

If you have a sleeveless or short sleeve peplum top, try giving it sassy twist by layering a collared blouse underneath! Oh, and fyi, A basic short sleeve blouse is a good basic to have for all your layering needs!
All black & white can be chic, but also borderline boring! So if you find yourself in a b&w outfit, pump up your look with a pop of color! A bright shoe or bold bag can be your perfect little pop to help take a look from drab to fab.

Summer Sizzle

25th July 2012

Today’s look is a bold & spicy take on a summer look
I’m in la la love with my zebra peplum top, it pairs perfectly with pencil skirts and ciggy pants, but today I switched it up by pairing it with bright colors & summery pieces.

peplums are so on trend now & can be a great way to fake a tiny waist! pair your peplum with a skinny belt and something hip hugging like a pencil skirt or high waisted shorts. To pump this peplum up for summer, I added a flower pin to keep it fun and flirty.

by the way, did you notice what’s new and hanging on my hip? it’s a teeny tiny vintage moschino… yes moschino bag! A fabulous find that I picked up this weekend and I’m ob-sessed.

Trendy Kate

9th May 2012

today lets take a look at what’s trending at kate spade new york!
Today, I am breaking down some trends and showing you the easiest way to get the look all while featuring new arrivals at ksny (yay)! plus we will take a look inside my closet at my newest ks wardrobe additions.

first lets look at three spring and summer trends that are here to stay! They will even carry over to fall 2012.
Hot Colors:
as I mentioned in my previous post (lets get tomato soup delivered) tomato red is a hot right now, africa violet is also a unique and fun color for summer. Wear these colors together, or choose one for a head to toe monochromatic look or to use as the perfect color pop!
Get the Look at KSNY: eyelet Selita dress (eyelets are another spring trend) $578, Arielle tee $178, Linen Viola Dress $358
Prints:
Leopard print is always on trend, but the way you wear it changes. This years its all about pairing it with bright colors (like tomato red), wearing structured leopard pieces (like peplum tops) or giving it a flirty-girlie vibe (by piling on the pearls, or wearing a girlie dress). geometric and floral prints are also in, the blouse shown above kills both of these trends with one top.
Get the Look at KSNY: leopard Randie peplum top $268, abstract arielle tee $198
Color Blocked:
Colorblocking, thick and thin is a huge trend this year! Pick up the perfect blocked piece or do it yourself by pairing a solid top with another solid colored skirt. You can block with neutrals, colors or even neon!
Get the Look at KSNY: Striped kerrigan dress $498, color block tank $178, tricolor zahara dress $498
More great new products at Kate Spade include pretty pillows:
and of course, handbags
These bags are brilliantly basic. The bright colors and classic shapes can make the perfect basic bag for any fabulous fashionista. featured collections: A La Vita, Primrose Hill and Gold Coast
WWCD: What Would Courtney Do.
With all these amazing options, how could you expect a girl to just pick one? You can’t… and I didn’t! heres a peak at my new product purchase and the trends they apply to!
I don’t own any zebra (ghasp) so I made up for lost purchases with a perfect peplum randie top (animal & peplum, two trends in one) & a linen jillian bow dress. I also picked up this classy color blocked Celine dress as a fun trendy take on neutrals. Perfect cigarette pants are hard to find (especially with my body type) so when I found these perfect lipstick mandy pants in tomato red (also african violet and black) I had to pick them up!
What Would You Do?
I showed you mine, time to show me (or tell me) yours! Do you like my picks? if not, what products would you pick up? Or what trends are you dying to try?
Let me know, Cheers!

Peplum Party

20th January 2012

For our 8th day of the 12 days of 2012, lets celebrate another new spring trend!
Peplum shirts, skirts and dresses were all over the spring runway.
Spring 2012: Jason Wu, Thakoon and Rodarte
Some of the prettiest spring peplums came from one of my designer favorites: Jason Wu

One of my absolutely favorite fashionistas Emma Watson was also seen walking the red carpet in a fabulous Jason Wu peplum look.

My Personal Peplum Party:
Dress: Forever 21. Tights: Target. Shoes: Gross Grain Glitter Heel Karolina, Kate Spade. Earrings: Kate Spade. Ring: DIY Domino. Belt: Gathered Bow, Kate Spade.
DIY Peplum:
Even before peplums were in style they were a silhouette I tried to wear often because they can be very flattering while looking high fashion. But back then they were so hard to find I often created my own and you can too!
Dare: try playing with pattern when creating your own peplum!
Dress: Forever 21. Skirt: H&M. Belt: Anne Klien. Shoes: Charlottes Russe. Bracelet: New York Charm, French Market. Ring: Forever 21 and Kate Spade. Earrings: Coach.
