Stripes & Snow

5th February 2014

Well, I’m not in Arizona anymore! New york has turned into Snow York with all the Polar Vortex nonsense…. and I’m actually loving it!

My Boyfriend’s Sweater: Tommy Hilfiger (This is becoming a habit, I did it again here)
Skort: zara (similar on sale!) // Hat: Marc by Marc Jacobs // Scarf: Gap // Bag: Coach // Coat: Zara // Sunnies: Karen Walker (also here) // Rings: H&M // Tiffany’s // Lips: Wet & Wild // Necklace: Marc by Marc Jacobs
Girls Weekend! These pictures were taken on a special day, because some of my favorite gal pals were in town! The two on either side of me have been my best friends since basically birth (okay, more like age 10 … but still) and since one served on a mission for a year and a half and the other performs on a cruise, this was the first time the three of us were together since May 2011! Crazy! As always, the weekend went by too fast, I miss the ladies more than anything.

Until Next Time, Bundle Up Butter Cups!

Stripe X Stripe

17th January 2014

What to wear with a striped sweater? more stripes of course! Pattern mixing has crept its way into main stream style, and pairing petals with polka dots is starting to become the norm. But normal is boring, so I decided to step out with stripes on stripes for pattern pairing with a twist!

Jacket: Forever 21 (similar here or here … LOVE this navy one) // Sweater: Tommy Hilfiger (sample sale find) (similar here) // Skirt: Modcloth (similar) // Bag: Coach // Snood: Michael Kors (Old, Similar: onetwo [cashmere on sale, yes please!], three) // Socks: J.crew // Belk: Saks via My Sisters Closet // Sunnies: Karen Walker (also here) // Boots: (similar
I snagged this sweater for next to nothing at the Tommy Hilfiger sample sale while I was working there in Production last year! It’s such a fun twist on a classic that I knew I would be able to wear it for years!  Plus, you can’t help but smile in an all-american brand!
Since I chopped off all my hair & went strawberry blonde (read all about it) I haven’t been able to rock my usual topknot, until now! I have started using a curly pony and a few pins to simulate a faux-knot. Some of my strands are too short to stay up so I just let them hang free. It’s still a work in progress, I feel a little like Mugatu (Will Farrell in Zoolander), but it’s growing on me. Maybe once I’ve mastered it, I’ll post a tutorial for all the short-haired readers.

pink && teal

10th January 2013

today, let’s brighten up the usual b&&w outfit with a pop of color

i’m all about the pop of color, it is always so perfect && so on trend for spring! but i couldn’t resort to just one surprising hue, i had to double my color with a pop of teal && a pop of deep pink (both hot colors for spring).

most either opt for pattern mixing or utilizing a color pop! but this year, be bold && try both! oh && when you’re looking to pattern mix try two geometric patterns like stripes && dots, gingham && polka dots or stripes && houndstooth (like me!).
did you splurge on a holiday day dress to die for? if so, here’s a tip on remixing your favorite festive frock for the new year! layer a cute cardigan over the top && cinch it with a statement belt to define your waist while making your dress look completely different!

dress: kate spade // cardie: target (try these) // belt: vintage // necklaces: francescas && diy pearls (tutroial) // shoes: kate spade (look for less)// earrings: vintage (check these out) // sunnies: miu miu // bag: kate spade // rings: vintage // wire wrap // betsey johnson // kate spade // vintage // arm party: vintage // sequin // vintage // kate spade idioms // vintage // michael kors // vintage // jcrew // forever 21

all about audrey

31st December 2012

welcome back to the third && final holiday style stalking post! today i’m taking on the queen of class, audrey hepburn && shaking up her b&w style with my own takes on the a timeless look.

for my look i got inspired by audrey’s timeless stripes, whether wearing them on a dress or a little basic tee, no-one wore stripes quite like audrey!
I started by piling on the pattern (surprise, surprise) by mixing polka dots && stripes!
this dress is perfect for a holiday party or summer soiree, but not quite right for a brisk day. to make it work for december, i layered a turtleneck underneath && paired with thick tights to keep me toast!
Since I couldn’t do a homage to audrey without pearls on pearls on pearls, I layered three of my favorite necklaces && bedazzled with a bow brooch.
need your own statement pearl necklace? check out this tutorial here!
&& I couldn’t be audrey without a little bit of leopard…
oh, && of course a red lip is required…
before you go…
bree of uptown tulips will also be posting an audrey-esque on her blog, so be sure to stop by uptown tulips to see how she channels audrey.
&& remember…

5th September 2012

ahoy there, today’s post is a nod to the nautical!
but since navy is such a key color for nautical nonsense, and since i don’t usually wear navy, i do nautically a little different than the norm. instead of anchors && sailboats, I go pirate-esuqe…
alright matey, let’s set sail.

looking for a simple summer outfit? look no further than your closet! take your favorite loose tee, knot it at the waist over a basic black skirt, add fun heels && a flower pin for a perfect pop of color!
outfit inspiration doesn’t always have to be literal. no-one has to know you are dressing pirate-esque. I just paired black && white with bold stripes && pops of red to get the nautical-essence without going overboard. syncing a t-shirt with a side knot, is also a nice piratey touch that will make your waist look ity bitty!
oh, and did you nottice? captain waffles joined me on my sea-side adventure. he thinks that if you are willing to mix patterns, but are afraid of going overboard, you should stick to black && white!

4th September 2012

p is for poised, polished && pretty in prep.
I’ve been watching a lot of old gossip girl reruns lately, and loving the preppy blair a la season one and two, sighhh. so although today’s look is not very blair-esque, I was thinking of the preppy princess when I found myself inspired to put some prep in my step for today’s outfit.

when cleaning out my closet I discovered this lacoste polo I’ve had forever. although these polo’s are no longer as popular as they once were, they are still perfect for a prep-tastic look, so I thought I would put it to good use. I updated it by tucking it into a skirt && playing with fun colors.
i am now back in arizona (i just recently moved back to my home town to save up before my eventual move to new york city) && once i get back into the swing of things, i plan taking tennis up again! && with the crazy hot weather now i have been forced to move away from my love of layering for the time being. This post, the tennis && the gossip girl reruns have inspired me, && I think you will be seeing plenty more preppy posts in the near future.

Today’s look is all about pairing crazy amounts of color with plenty of pattern!
Using these citrus-y hues, I was able to create a summery striped outfit that makes a bright yet unexpected statement look!

It seems I’ve come down with another case of the stripes! Hence the stripe on stripe pairing in this look! I am definitely not afraid to mix patterns, and really no one should be!
Does this skirt look familiar? It’s the katie skirt, From Sandee Royalty… in green! As featured in the Work It the Katie Skirt post (red) and in the Walking on Sunshine post (yellow)

Spring Stripes

27th March 2012

The Secrets out: I’m a sucker for stripes!
Spring into this season in stunning stripes, paired with bright spring basics!

This look is all about working with spring basics: colored pumps, bright studs, a bold bag (it makes the perfect color pop piece), fun bangles and a simple cardigan or jacket.
Saturday, I ventured to the fabulous french market for a relaxing brunch date with my sassy grandmother, amazing mother and bestfriend Dené.
So I thought this look was perfect for this fabulously french affair.
When I think Spring I see bright colors, flirty prints and having fun with fashion!
By pairing stripes on stripes with some spring basics, you too can be stunning for spring.

Case Of The Stripes

18th February 2012

I’m afraid I have fallen ill…
They have yet to find a cure for my current condition … and I hope they never do!
These next few looks will be all about stripes and feature three striped inspired styles. Our first look features one of my favorite dresses, what I like to call “My Barbie Dress”. Lets take a peak!
I remixed my “barbie dress” by layering it over a black and white long sleeve to shield me from the cold weather.
I also added a leopard belt to mix patterns and add some edge to a very girlie look.
Shirt: B&W striped long sleeve, H&M. Dress: Pink tulip dress, Zara spring 2011. Belt: Calf-hair leopard skinny belt, Express. Tights: Black, Capezio. Shoes: Mary Janes, Jessica Simpson. Jewelry: Idom Bangles, Kate Spade & All Wrapped Up ring/earrings, Kate Spade.
This second Case Of The Stripes look is just peachy, with bold punches of some of my favorite colors for spring: cute corals and pretty pops of peach!

This fresh color was all over the spring runway and is being featured this month in Kate Spade products!
Its amazing when two pieces from different designers, different seasons and different years can come together to make a complete look! Thats what happened up top with this self-created peach stripe on stripe.
Top: Long Sleeve striped shirt: H&M, Spring’12. Jacket: Stripe Cropped 3/4 Jacket, J.Crew Spring’08. Skirt: White Tulip Skirt, Zara. Shoes: Brown Oxford Booties, Vince Camuto. Jewerly: Idom Bangles, All Wrapped Up Ring and Gumdrop Earrings in Flo Coral, Kate Spade.
I have still yet to recover from my current case of the stripes… This final striped look is a little bit girlie, flirty and retro.
I paired classically bold B&W stripes with bright pops of red and big bows for a vintage vibe.
Look familiar? you may remember this mock-off dress from my Spade Worthy Steals post!
Dress: Falling In Line dress, Modcloth. Shoulder Shrug: Black Cap Sleeve, H&M. Tights: Red, Express. Shoes: Tilda Oxford Pump, Miz Mooz. Belt: Gathered Bow, Kate Spade. Headband: Red & Black Polkadot Wrap, Forever 21. Jewelry: All Wrapped Up Ring & Idom Bangles, Kate Spade.
