If that wasn’t enough, I’m pairing these prints with a perfect peplum, lets take a peek…
If you want to dabble in animal print mixing, you don’t have to go over the top. Start by playing it safe with just a hint of mixing, I just used a little bit of leopard to get the look without going overboard.
If you have a sleeveless or short sleeve peplum top, try giving it sassy twist by layering a collared blouse underneath! Oh, and fyi, A basic short sleeve blouse is a good basic to have for all your layering needs!
All black & white can be chic, but also borderline boring! So if you find yourself in a b&w outfit, pump up your look with a pop of color! A bright shoe or bold bag can be your perfect little pop to help take a look from drab to fab.

so today, we’re taking on the always trendy animal prints in prints of prey.
Animal prints are always wildly popular for fall, we saw it last year and we will probably see it again in 2012. This year, its leopard vs zebra, where some prints will be battling for reign of the runway!
before you go wild, make sure you learn the rules of the jungle with my tips and tricks for wearing animal prints and really any big or bold pattern.
one: prints like to be the star of an outfit, so pair them with complimentary neutral hues & basic pieces to let them shine // two: prints can go cheap in a hurry, be sure to invest in quality printed pieces that will last you a lifetime while looking lush // brighten up your animalistic look with fun pops of color try green or pink for leopard and yellow or red for zebra // pile on the prints! animal patterns can be the perfect pattern mixing piece // since animal prints can go trashy fast, above all, stay classy. use classic silhouettes and timeless shapes to keep from going too wild // here’s how I do it…
and if you are torn between these perfect prints? pair predator with prey in a zebra meets leopard look!
Put your best print forward:
something to consider before picking your print: skin tone! Good news for you tan ladies (whether you got it from a salon, the sun or your momma) who can really get away with leopard or zebra (with my carmel complexion, the black and white contrast looks best on me)! But if you are on the fairer side, a darker leopard may suit you best but beware of those lighter leopards with a pale base that will wash you out!
while I love me some leopard (and I love being a leo), I am really into zebra right no, so that’s the pattern I pick.. for the moment. nevertheless, my wardrobe may beg to differ since leopard is my current king of my closet.
so where does your allegiance lie? spots or stripes leopard or zebra? predator or prey?
Today’s look is a bold & spicy take on a summer look
I’m in la la love with my zebra peplum top, it pairs perfectly with pencil skirts and ciggy pants, but today I switched it up by pairing it with bright colors & summery pieces.
peplums are so on trend now & can be a great way to fake a tiny waist! pair your peplum with a skinny belt and something hip hugging like a pencil skirt or high waisted shorts. To pump this peplum up for summer, I added a flower pin to keep it fun and flirty.
by the way, did you notice what’s new and hanging on my hip? it’s a teeny tiny vintage moschino… yes moschino bag! A fabulous find that I picked up this weekend and I’m ob-sessed.
let take a walk on the wild side
today, we are taking pattern mixing to a whole new level by pairing prints with prints in a wild animal inspired look.
Pattern mixing is a great way to make the most of your wardrobe. By pairing patterns together you can breathe new light into your looks while getting extra use out of pieces that you wouldn’t normally wear together. When mixing patterns, remember to keep it classy! Stick to simple silhouettes and classic shapes like a-line dresses and cardigans to keep the look under control. Also look for complimentary colors, using black & white is always a great way to help you achieve print pairing perfection.

Today’s outfit is a wild take on one of my favorite dresses: the Kate Spade Jillian Dress… in Zebra!
I wear this dress a million ways, but today it took a casual twist when I paired it with a black button up to help dress it down.
Since casual is rarely in my vocabulary, I had to keep the look bright and fun with sparkly layering necklaces and pops of hot pink throughout!
If you are ever thinking of investing in a Kate Spade dress, the Jillian is the one to get! It is so crazy cute, classic and convertible! At kate we say, “if you love it buy three” and that couldn’t be more true about the Jillian! I own it in red/orange, zebra and now black and love them all! See all the ways I wear it!

today lets take a look at what’s trending at kate spade new york!
Today, I am breaking down some trends and showing you the easiest way to get the look all while featuring new arrivals at ksny (yay)! plus we will take a look inside my closet at my newest ks wardrobe additions.
first lets look at three spring and summer trends that are here to stay! They will even carry over to fall 2012.
as I mentioned in my previous post (lets get tomato soup delivered) tomato red is a hot right now, africa violet is also a unique and fun color for summer. Wear these colors together, or choose one for a head to toe monochromatic look or to use as the perfect color pop!
Get the Look at KSNY: eyelet Selita dress (eyelets are another spring trend) $578, Arielle tee $178, Linen Viola Dress $358
Leopard print is always on trend, but the way you wear it changes. This years its all about pairing it with bright colors (like tomato red), wearing structured leopard pieces (like peplum tops) or giving it a flirty-girlie vibe (by piling on the pearls, or wearing a girlie dress). geometric and floral prints are also in, the blouse shown above kills both of these trends with one top.
Colorblocking, thick and thin is a huge trend this year! Pick up the perfect blocked piece or do it yourself by pairing a solid top with another solid colored skirt. You can block with neutrals, colors or even neon!
Get the Look at KSNY: Striped kerrigan dress $498, color block tank $178, tricolor zahara dress $498

WWCD: What Would Courtney Do.
With all these amazing options, how could you expect a girl to just pick one? You can’t… and I didn’t! heres a peak at my new product purchase and the trends they apply to!
I don’t own any zebra (ghasp) so I made up for lost purchases with a perfect peplum randie top (animal & peplum, two trends in one) & a linen jillian bow dress. I also picked up this classy color blocked Celine dress as a fun trendy take on neutrals. Perfect cigarette pants are hard to find (especially with my body type) so when I found these perfect lipstick mandy pants in tomato red (also african violet and black) I had to pick them up!
What Would You Do?
I showed you mine, time to show me (or tell me) yours! Do you like my picks? if not, what products would you pick up? Or what trends are you dying to try?
Let me know, Cheers!
