A Class in Colorblocking

IMG_5672I’m not great at much but, I’d like to consider myself a pro when it comes to color blocking. I mean, I don’t want to toot my own horn or anything, but after years of playing with hues I’ve learned a few tips and tricks for pairing colors together without looking like a crazy lady – and today I’m sharing them with you!    IMG_5668IMG_5669IMG_5670

Look for similar materials –
This one isn’t a deal breaker, but if you want your color mash up look more like an outfit and less like a hodge lodge of color (which for the record is totally okay too). To be honest most of my color block creations aren’t made from the same material, because it’s tougher – but the ones that do always look more intentional

When you’re pairing a lot of solid colors, it’s sometimes nice to pull everything together with one piece. In this look, I used my color block earrings that include both a ombre color effect that make the color combo make more sense!IMG_5673

Three Is the magic number –
You can always color block with just two colors, but I think its best to use three in a specific way! I use a 3 2 1 rule where I wear 3 of one color, 2 or another and 1 of the third. Here I’m wearing 3 red pieces: red shoes, red lip & a red purse; 2 pink pieces pink top & pink earrings (we’re classifying these as pink because they’re mostly pink with a bit of red) and 1 melon piece with the skirt! If you’re going to use 2 colors, try a 2:1 or 3:2 ratioFullSizeRender-2
