Coral Bedroom

Hey cuties! I’m so excited to show you our coral bedroom and tell you all about the design choices we made here!

General Design:
Our bedroom is really odd shaped, the best way I can describe it is a triangle like shape and a square pushed together, I’ll show you my original design below that will give you a better idea of the layout.

So in the above design you can see a few things we didn’t complete in our bedroom. I was planning on it, but we might be moving now in the near future so have held off. Those two main changes are 1 – the switching of our grey bed (which we’ve had since our old place) to a blue one and 2 – the addition of the matchbook wallpaper, which is currently a white gallery wall. Otherwise, there aren’t any other big differences in my design, but I was playing around with different options so that’s while you’ll see mix matched chairs. We played around with general layout here, but landed on this for maximum functionality. There can be challenges associated with having an odd sized space, but it can also allow you to do fun things like a zebra rug laid diagonally or have two colorful coral accent walls.

Color Scheme

Aside from the layout, color scheme was another challenge for us. I gravitate towards warm colors like red and yellows, but those aren’t calming tones you’ll want in a bedroom. As I work around, we decided to do coral and teal to give a good balance between the too. We actually picked this color scheme last summer way before coral was named the color of the year, but I was excited to hear we were kind of ahead of the curve! In an outfit I would usually pick two colors to play with, but in a big space like a bedroom you can go a little crazy. So you’ll see three shades of coral featured, one that’s more red orange in the vases and artwork, a second peachy color in the art and bedding and the third true coral color in the paint and bedding. For blues we went even more wild with bits of teal, sky blue, aqua, turquoise and even navy sprinkled throughout the room. I think playing with shades gives the room more dimension and makes it feel less matchy.

We love a theme!
I love a theme and all of my rooms have not only a clear color scheme but also a clear theme. The bedrooms theme is “wild” focusing on showcasing animals, wildlife and lots of out there pattern play! You’ll also find a few funky things like out there artwork or blue prints splattered on the walls all tying back to the theme.

Where to shop:
When designing a home I like to do it all at once, or in two main phases. 1st I’ll start with furniture and structure to build out from there. When I was shopping I turned to wayfair for about 80% of the pieces in the room and only things really not from there were either things I had from before and found a place for or a few pieces of art. I love wayfair for a few reasons, first they have crazy fast and super affordable shipping. Your order usually ships in days or less, and its free if you spend over $49. This is pretty unheard of in the home decor world, so I love that wayfair offers it. They are one of the worlds largest places to shop from home decor with over 10 million products, but their site is remarkably easy to navigate and find things at! This makes shopping not only a breeze but also fun! You can go wild and search for “giraffe lamp” and actually find a good selection of options! This allows you to be a little more creative with your decor because you can find pretty much anything you need all in one place.
