Healthy Habits make Happy People

Hey, cuties- SO you know that I’m all about positivity, but I’m also about transparency. I like to consider myself a pretty happy person, so today I’m sharing some habits that have helped me become that way! Plus I did a ton of research in polling other happy people and just searching the world wide web to find out what habits can help lead to happiness.

Keep it positive!

Yep, here we are again POSITIVITY is key to being HAPPY! See, there is a reason why they rhyme. I’m hyper-logical, and I’ve learned that most of the time, it doesn’t make sense to be negative. You waste so much time worrying when you can be celebrating what you have. And no, that doesn’t come from a place of naivety. It comes from someone who’s had the worst thing possible happen to her, losing her little brother. Then, more than ever, I learned that being negative or moping about it doesn’t change anything.

Yes, I grieved, and yes, I would give my lips, my voice, my life to bring my brother back, but I choose to be thankful for the time I was blessed to have with him, instead of upset that it was cut short. If I can find the positive in even the worst of situations, I know you can too in your daily life. Promise!! When you accept that terrible things happen and stop dwelling on then, you open yourself up to a whole new potential of positive opportunities.

Enjoy what you do!

In a world where most people spend ⅓ of their day working (or sometimes wayyyy more), happy people are those who look forward to their job! Having to dread what you do, and then spend most of your life doing it can be a real downer. So if you can find a job you love in some small way, it will help add to your overall happiness.

Even when I had jobs, I hated, like retail – yuck! I tried to find small ways to like it more, like working with beautiful people or challenging myself to sell more than I did the day before. I’ve always felt that if you’re spending your time doing something, you should make the most of it and get something out of it because otherwise, it’s just a waste!

Say HELLO to happy people!

Much like positivity, surrounding yourself with happy people will make you happier. IDK WHY ITS SCIENCE! But I assume it’s because happiness is contagious. Just like hanging out with the wrong crowd can have a negative influence, hanging out with the right people can have a positive one! This is why it’s so important to continually revisit our relationships and make sure they are still working and right for us!

Focus on what you can control

This is up there with “you’ll never shine throwing shade” as my life motto! I’m a crazy control freak, and if I worried about everything I could control, I would function. So I don’t, I focus on what’s in front of me. I don’t get scared of heights until I’m up high, this hasn’t served me well, but it has made me happier. The trick to this is being able to be optimistic. In a dark situation (like right now amid COVID-19), look at what you have and what you have control over and focus on that. If you take action instead of becoming a victim of negative thinking and worrisome circumstances, you’ll find yourself feeling a lot more in control and overall happier!

SHOP:

ONE : Combat Boot || TWO : Pleated Satin Skirt (0-14) || THREE : Stripe Pleated Skirt (00-18)

FOUR : Fiddler Cap || FIVE : Shaggy Fluffy Jacket (S-L)

Let go of grudges and stop caring what people think!!!

Grudges are a big waste of time, and as someone with very little time, I’ve learned to let them go. Again, this was a logical decision that also improved my overall happiness. Grudges allow anger and resentment to fester and can ultimately prevent happiness from growing. SO LET IT GO. If I’m having a problem getting over something someone said about me, I think “is this true” if the answer is no, then it’s not worth my time. And if the answer is yes, I work to fix it because that’s more productive then worrying about it.

Focus on Experiences over things!

Most people don’t remember what they owned ten years ago, BUT they do remember how they spent their time and what they experienced. That’s because the experiences were more valuable than material things, so prioritizing more experiences can help make you happier! In the future, plan trips, experience events, learn new skills, meet new people! And for now, from home you can learn a language, virtually visit a museum, plan your next trip, facetime with your friends, play board games, dance in your living room or tackle our 150 things to do in quarantine list to make a memorable moment from this weird time!

MORE EASY THINGS TO ADD
Give to others
Be Flexible (this prevents disappointment)
Stay busy but don’t rush (rush can lead to anxiety)
Celebrate others & their success
Set realistic Goals, but also…
Chase your dreams regularly!

SHOP:

ONE : Skirt (2-14) || TWO : Tie-Front Tank (XS-L) || THREE : Wrap Skirt (XS-XL)

FOUR : Button Front Skirt (0-14) || FIVE : Bag || SIX : Button Front Midi Skirt (XS-L)

The above are all things I do or have done that I feel have led to my overall happiness. Although there are things I would change if I could, I’m grateful for the life I have and happy about what I’ve built. I think all of the above are some of the reasons I got here and will continue to keep them up to stay happy in the future. But I have things I can improve on, so wanted to share a few more things that experts say will help but i don’t always do:

Here is where I have some room for improvement because I don’t do all of these things, and supposedly they will make me happier, so I had to share!

Meditate – I’ve tried it, and it’s not for me lol I wish it was, but i can’t slow down enough to do it

Spend money on others – This is something I do, but I don’t think it’s necessary to be happy. BUT I do love giving gifts. It’s like my favorite thing. If you’re not made of money you can also spend TIME on others, I think that’s just as valuable (or more) than money.

Engage in meaningful conversations – Again. Something I don’t do as often as I should, but my happy friend Bobby (@thisfellow) is the king of this, so I do think there is something to it.

Exercise – I try, but I don’t always get this one done, but I do feel better and happier when I get to the gym or even walk outside

Sleep – ha, this feels funny as I’m writing this at 2:53 a.m, but I bet it is true! I operate on less sleep than the average person, and I feel better when I stay up and get something done instead of getting an extra hour of sleep. But yeah, most people who sleep well are usually happier. I also think a lot of people oversleep. They recommend 8 hours, but some need ten, and some need 6 – I’m a sixer if I sleep for ten. I’m exhausted because I overslept!!

Have a life outside of work – Okay, again, I don’t have this because sharing my life is my work, but I do feel that if my job were gone tomorrow, I would be okay. But happy people usually have experience outside of their careers and aren’t hyper-focused on making money. Most of us want more time over more money, so more time and a better work-life balance usually make for a happier human

In addition to the above, make sure you check out and apply our tips for positivity 101 bc positivity and happiness are closely tied & those tricks will help increase your satisfaction.

Well, I hope that helped! Start with one of these items and find a way to add it to your life! Once you have mastered it, come back and add another to your list. Continue to work through until you’re done, but don’t try to tackle them all at once because no one can do that! I’ll keep reminding you of these all year long on my Instagram @colormecourtney, so follow along, so you don’t miss my reminders 🙂 until then, keep smiling and stay happy people! I’m here for you and thinking of all of you, from my home!
