Minnie-Ween

img_7296Welcome to minnie-ween – a fashion girls’ guide to being Minnie!img_7294

It’s no secret I’m a big fan of little miss mouse (and the fun insta account @minniestyle) so today I’m taking a tip from the polka dot princess and styling  a few fun looks with a minnie twist! These outfits are perfect for a more “fashion forward” take on dressing up for halloween, but they also work for real-life looks.  Just loose the ears (or switch them out for a pom pom beanie) and you’ll create a one of a kind look that’s simply magical!

If you’re doing Halloween on the east coast or somewhere cold, you might want to bundle up. It’s been in the 50’s all week in NYC so I thought I should create at least one look centered around a coat. For my first take on minnie-ween I took a twirl in my new favorite shift dress, and paired it with a statement  red coat, fun face bag and black booties. The star of this look are the polka dot socks that are a unique and fashion-forward take on true minnie style!

Pretty in Pink!img_7298
Although most think of black, white & red when minnie comes to mind, I wanted to give this look a blush twist for something unexpected. I’m totally crushing on this color for Fall, so I thought I would pair it with my favorite style icon for a new take on classic minnie. I kept everything else pretty standard, a polka dot dress, a rounded purse that I know Miss Mouse would love and a full skirt (created by layering a tulle skirt under my dress). For extra spots, I used white circle labels that I picked up at staples and stuck them onto my shoes & bag for the easiest DIY ever. You could also do this to plain black Mickey ears, socks, a dress or anything else for a double or triple does of dots! To make my ears unique and fun, I pinned two matching pom pom key chains to an old black pair of ears – you can find these poms almost anywhere by Amazon has some of the best deals!img_7286img_7285img_7293img_7284

If you’re really confident in your #minniestyle, why not loose the traditional headband ears and create your own with fun buns! If you’re going to try this take on Minnie, you’ll need a few other key pieces to really convey your character. A combination of polka dots, a big bow and animated gloves should do the trick! I ended  up going with “youth” ones from the Mickey Mouse clubhouse collection (found at Party City), because they’re a little smaller and therefore, chic-er! I feel like my favorite kiss & tell sneakers scream Minnie, especially when paired with a polka dot button up, flare red skirt and little red bag.img_7290img_7287img_7300
