Monaco Moments

Hey cuties!  As you know I’ve been in France wandering the French Rivera with my mom. We choose Nice as our home base (read my first impressions of Nice here) for our stay but have been wandering around some of the neighboring towns while here. Our first day trip was to Monaco, so today I’m sharing my reactions of the city + a really cute orange dress.

From Nice, a trip to Monaco is about 18 min away by train, 25 by bus. We took a train which was really easy and affordable (most tickets start at 1.5 euros). The train station in Nice was about a 25 min walk from our hotel so we just wandered over and bought a train ticket there. We didn’t know how much time we would spend in Monaco so we didn’t buy our return tickets at the time, but I wish we did because we ended up waiting around for about an hour for the next train. If you buy your return ticket at the time of your initial ticket, you’ll probably be able to plan your day a little better than we did.

As soon as we made it to Monaco, it started raining (boo). You can take a scenic walk from the train station up to the Palace, but to avoid the rain we hopped on a bus that probably took just as long. We got to the palace right before the changing of the guards. This happens at 12 but people start lining up around 1130ish. It stopped raining long enough for us to be able to watch, because if the rain continued the ceremony would be cancelled. I have to say that the changing of the guards was nice but not really a must see for me, but in fairness Monaco in general wasn’t much of a must see for me overall.

After the changing of the guards we bought a ticket and walked through the palace, we skipped the guided audio tour and just wandered on our own which was Good enough for us! We were more interested in seeing than hearing about the history and felt we got our fill without the audio guide. If you’re looking to do the audio guide, bring head phones! The palace doesn’t provide them, just a radio that you have to put to your ear (which seems kind of annoying) so bring headphones and spare yourself that drama!

After the palace we enjoyed the view and a little more rain (hence why you I look like a little old Italian grandma in health these photos). The whole trip I carried a silk scarf around with me and slipped it on whenever my hair needed a little protection from the weather, this helped protect it from frizz and keep my curls intact. If you’re a curly girl I highly suggest doing the same!

I’m not going to lie, there isn’t much to do in Monaco. The casino is there but we skipped it because I don’t gamble and after looking at photos I was okay with passing. It seems to be a big place for night life, but again not really my thing. Theres a cute famers market and a few shops to wander around, which we did, as well a touristy shops and alleys that line the streets near the palace. I think if you want to head to Monaco, plan a half day to do so because you wont need much time. I also suggest you buy your return train ticket when you purchase your initial one. OH and if you’re looking to go to the casino, keep in mind that you can’t wear sneakers or flip flops and they do have s dress code!

WHO WEARS SHORT SHORTS?
So I live in biker shorts, I wear them almost everyday under everything and ofter instead of underwear. I grew up dancing so I grew up wearing booty shorts or bloomers under skirts, so it just feels more comfortable for me. I owe you guys a more in-depth post about my short shorts but I’ve been getting SO many questions about them that I wanted to share a few selects now.
