BONJOUR from NICE

Bonjour from Nice !

I’m in the south of France for the next few days with my mom exploring a part of the world I’ve never been before. We’re stationing at a hotel in nice and popping around to some of the adjacent small towns, but keeping nice as our home base.

Over the next few blog posts I’ll tackle all of your French riviera- related questions including what to do. Beach recommendations, where to eat, what to wear, where to stay AND MORE. But today I’m sharing my first reactions of nice and the south of France + this cute look!

NICE: We spent the first day exploring old town nice and some of the adjacent shopping. They were all a short (maybe 20) min walk from our hotel. We took a uber from the airport to our hotel but otherwise we’ve walked everywhere in nice and it’s never taken more than 30 min to get where we need to go.  I love that you can walk almost everywhere here, but the trains and public transit are also really nice!

WEATHER: The weather has been quite nice aside from some scattered storms, it will literally pour for ten min and then stop and be sunny – so odd. It reminded me of San Francisco’s microclimates, sunny in one spot shady In the next.

WHATS IN THE BAG: I quickly learned that we always needed a umbrella, sunglasses, sneakers/flats & a sweater in your bag at all times while in nice. The sun can be harsh when reflecting off the water so if you’re terrified of skin cancer (me) keep some SPF inside too. When I travel I like to pump out content for you cuties, especially when the city is so picturesque so you’ll also find a second outfit (or two) in my bag. I’m also carrying  humidity fighting travel hair spray, lipsticks, 3 portable chargers, blue tooth headphones for train trips and a swimsuit incase a cute photo opp arises…. you know the norm.
See below for things I carried on day one, and quickly ditched for day two included:
My boater hat – I opted for a silk scarf to fight off rain and humidity instead.
My deodorant – despite the heat, I didn’t feel myself needed to reapply
A second pair of socks – Something I like to bring on walking trips because of sweat or dirt, but haven’t needed in this clean city.

EXPECTATIONS VS REALITY: Everyone talks about how beautiful and even swanky Nice is, I do feel like it’s cute and charming with a gorgeous view but don’t find it swanky or pretentious at all. Maybe because I’m here a month before high season or maybe because I’m just naturally swanky myself ? either way I was surprised about the level of swank here. It’s very casual, beachy and kind of low key – almost sleepy but in a good way. There isn’t a TON to do, and its not a busy city like New York or even Paris, it’s more where you come to relax and vacation.

It’s actually turning out to be one of the most low key trips I’ve ever taken, and I’m not mad about it. I’m usually very GOGOGO especially on vacay, so it’s nice to slow down and be on Nice time for a change.

WHAT I’M WEARING:  For this look I’m wearing a blue on blue look with pops of orange. I wanted the two pieces to kind of read as one, but also not because they’re different textures and slightly different vibes. Together they create the illusion of a dress with the flexibility of two pieces you want, especially on a trip. I also brought this same two pieces in hot pink! Since orange is our color of the month I use this bold hue to pop up the look with a orange bag and stripe mules. I opted for peach earrings and a peachy / orange bandana to tie everything together… and if I’m being honest, to keep my hair kind of in check since this was taken after the rain. I actually bought this top in pink and blue because its SO CUTE and I know I’ll wear it all summer long. I bought both in a large and medium but went with the medium for keeps. The medium was snug (I have a really big ribcage and often go up to a large or XL in these tops) but I could get away with skipping the bra, so I went with that size. I also carried fashion tape with me all day just incase, but didn’t end up needing it for this top.
