Orange, Yellow,

Orangefest

Give me all the unconventional color combos this holiday season!

I know this is quite odd, but I’m dressing brighter than ever and not in the typical holiday way you would expect. I wear red and sequins all year around, so it’s sometimes hard for me to make my holiday dressing feel special when everyone else is touching a glitter dress for the first time since New Years eve. My style is extra extra, all the time, all year so I tend to go in a different direction come December. Sure, you’ll see me in plaid and sequins, but I also like to rock the boat with unexpected color combos that feel almost out of place and make you do a double take.

So today I’m playing with orange and sharing two festive ways to wear it this season. For both looks I’ll be styling the same sweater and jacket, so you if you choose to twin with me you’ll get the most out of your wardrobe!
Orange & Yellow
Girl you’re a star, you deserve to be seen and this look will get you ALL the attention. Although I avoid yellow and orange starbursts like vomit flavored every flavor beans (shout out to my HP fans who caught that) I’m seriously into this color combo for an outfit option. I don’t really play by ANY outfit rules when it comes to what I wear, but an easy one for creating color combos is to think of the color wheel. When doing so, we know that the colors that lay next to each other: yellow and orange, green and blue, red and pink, usually go good together. Colors that lay opposite of each other (orange and teal, yellow and blue, red and green) also go quite well. But the inspo to pair orange and yellow together came early on for me, as it was the color of the rival highschool to mine. My school had classy” navy and gold but I was always so envious of the orange and yellow cheer uniforms our competitors – although I would NEVER rock it an appear to be in support of the ever team, I mean, how could I. Now, not tied down by my fierce school spirit and high school loyalty, I can wear orange and yellow freely with glee.
Styling Tricks
This sweater is a little bit oversized and cropped, so pairing it with such a dramatic skirt is a little bit daring. It could easily go wrong with too much volume and fabric, especially on my 5’1 frame. The styling trick that keep its together (literally) is the wide belt. Tucking my cropped sweater into the top of the belt generates a more streamlined look while bringing the attention to my waist and showcasing that I do in fact  have shape under all that sweater. I also pulled the sweater slightly off one shoulder to show a little bit of skin and prevent myself from swimming in the sweater. This skirt is actually a strapless dress (and one of my favorites), so the belt also helps in creating a clean line separating the sweater from the skirt that I wouldn’t be able to have otherwise. Creating shape with the belt is also extra important because of my oversized faux fur bomber that finishes this look, without it I couldn’t possibility wear two oversized pieces without looking crazy. OH and because I’m outfit OCD (it’s a real thing I swear) I often like to layer the exact number of pieces in each color – so you’ll see I have a yellow coat and a yellow hat, both pieces I’ll take off when I get to wherever I’m going leaving me with 3 remaining yellow: my skirt/dress, heels and yellow diamond ring; and 3 remaining orange pieces: my orange purse, orange sweater and orange belt.

Citrus Sparkle
So orange is probably an seemingly odd choice for a holiday party, but with the sea red dresses you know you’ll see its one sure fire way to stand out. This look is something I would wear to a office holiday party because you could easily wear the sweater with a more classic skirt and even a button up underneath for the day, then bring the skirt and shoes to switch into for the party. I know people will be hesitant to wear such a bright color to work, but I’m all for it. Even if your job is more on the conservative side I think you can easily dull it down will neutrals.
Styling  Tricks
I front tucked this slouchy sweater in a super fun sequin skirt, a front tuck is where you just take the front or even the side of a sweater towards the front and tuck only part of it, usually leaving the back or sides untucked and is a great way to wear a oversized sweater with almost any skirt. The big band on the skirt provides that break in the look we need to create dimension and shape just like the belt did in the first look. Since one piece of sparkle is never enough I pilled on the pretty with glitter heels and a sequin headband. They’re all different shimmery textures so they provide diversity through the look, keeping it cohesive but not to matchy-matchy. Again, I layered the same oversized fur bomber to complete the look, and again something I couldn’t do while maintaining shape without the front tuck. You’ll also see my OCD in full effect here by pairing 3 silver pieces: skirt, shoes and headband; with a matching 3 orange pieces: purse, sweater and jacket.

QUICK QUESTION – before you go I have to ask, would you like more of my posts to show you two ways to wear something write off the bat? Where I combine two looks into one post like I did here? Or would you rather I keep it separate into it’s own posts and link back to each other.
