Zzz’s Please

Trouble catching some Zzzz’s – don’t worry I’m here to help!
(This post is sponsored by ZzzQuil™ PURE Zzzs™)

If you’ve been following me for a while you know I have some trouble sleeping for a variety of reasons. First of all, I work too much and often during the night which can mess up my sleep schedule. Secondly, I have fibromyalgia which can cause rehabilitating pain making it too uncomfortable for me to fall asleep. Third, I live in a loft so my bedroom has no windows and no natural light, so sometimes waking up can be tough. And finally, I travel a lot, usually to LA and back to NYC which can cause issues with my time zones and keep me on track. All of these are things keep me from sleep! This year I revamped my sleep routine to make it even better than before, and I wanted to share what I’ve been using and why they work!

My Nighttime Tool Kit:

There are a few things I’ve introduced into my nighttime routine that have really changed everything for me at home or on the go, and I can’t wait to share with you.

Vicks ® ZzzQuil™ Pure Zzzs Melatonin Gummies– I’ve been using sleep gummies for about a year, but when ZzzQuil introduced these cuties to the market, I quickly switched over to give them a try and found them to be a superior product for a few reasons. They really are that perfect balance of helping you fall asleep naturally and wake feeling refreshed* than the alternatives out there. They’re also vegan, vegetarian, drug free and taste great! They’re recommended to take 2 gummies 30 min before bed time when you’re planning on getting 6 or more hours of sleep.

A Weighted Blanket – For the past few months I’ve been using a weighted blanket and its helped me sleep sounder and feel more focused on the mornings. Weighted blankets are great for people with anxiety, ADD or in my case fibromyalgia. I even sometimes use mine on my legs during the day while working at my desk because it helps control my focus and get things done. But at night, the weight help controls my pain and prevents me from waking up when it worsens during the night. I don’t travel with my weighted blanket because its heavy, and I really see a big change without it.

Vicks® PURE Zzzs™ Soothing Aromatherapy Balm– This balm is a great addition to any nighttime routine. You rub it on your chest and let the aromas lavender and chamomile help you relax while the blend of essential oils leaves your skin feeling moisturized and soft.

An Eye Mask – I don’t always use an eye mask because sometimes my lash extensions are just too long, but when I fly I do! It really helps to keep me sleeping through the flight without distractions.

Natural Light Alarm Clock – like I mentioned before, I don’t have natural light in my bedroom making it really hard for me to get up in the morning. So I invested in a natural light alarm clock that has done wonders for getting me out of bed in the morning – and Paris prefers this to the 12 alarms I used to set!

My routine at home:

So my nightly routine looks something like this….
I take two gummies and wash my face, then I crawl into my bed and turn of the lights. I love TV but I try not to watch it before bed or even look at my phone (I set up a podcast & my alarm outside the bedroom). Keeping my bedroom a screen free zone really helps me get a good night sleep. Sometimes I leave my hair down or wrap it with a bandana, other nights I pop it on top of my head in a “pineapple”. I listen to a podcast as I fall asleep, sometimes out loud when Paris wants to listen, or other times with wireless headphones when he’s already asleep. I like Once upon A Crime because I love true crime podcasts and Ester’s voice is super soothing and informative, I rarely make it through an episode at night and usually have to re-listen the next day. When I’m at home, I sleep with my weighted blanket and wear fuzzy socks when I sleep, my blanket is surprisingly cooling (not hot) and the socks help keep me warm and sleep sounder. Sometimes I’ll use Vicks PURE Zzzs Soothing Aromatherapy Balm as well when I want to moisturize my skin and relax with the scents of lavender and chamomile.

My routine on a flight:

Since I travel almost weekly I’ve gotten really good at falling asleep on long flights. This was previously pretty tough for me because I was in a plane crash when I was little. It wasn’t as dramatic as it sounds, everyone came out okay (well except the plane) and I wasn’t scarred as a child, but as an adult it would prevent me from falling asleep on planes because if we hit a bit of turbulence I would get plane crash nightmares … until now. For those long flights when I want to fall asleep fast, I use ZzzQuil Nighttime Sleep-Aid LiquiCaps. When taking ZzzQuil, I can fall asleep in as little as 20 minutes. I also travel with an eye mask and a travel neck pillow. Sometimes I listen to a podcast that I download ahead of time, and other times I just crash out. I’ve gotten to the point where I often fall asleep before the plane takes off and wake up when we hit the tarmac. This still rings true even for longer flights like NYC to London or LA back to New York, and even if I’m in coach in a middle seat.
